Hi. I am from USA and loved your videos. We sailed our boat from USA to Europe in 2018 and cruised in England, Germany, Sweden (wintered near Stockholm) then in 2019 the Stockholm archipelago, Aland I, Finland, Estonia, Denmark, Sweden and to Oslo. Our boat is hauled out at Stathelle and we had planned to return this summer and cruise west Norway, but we cannot be admitted to Norway due to Covid. So we probably will have the boat delivered to UK next May and cruise Scotland. But if Covid is gone in 2022, we will sail back to Norway and spend two summers there. We love Scandinavia!!!!
@norwaywithpal4 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven, sounds like a great journey. You've been to some places that I have not, but that are high on my sailing list: Åland, Finland etc. I really hope you'll make it to cruise the west coast here. I've seen quite a lot of it (all though not from a sail boat), but I would think it might be the best cruising waters in the world. Lots of nice harbors and spectacular landscape, wildlife etc. Let me know if you ever sail by Oslo, all though I know it would be quite a detour. :)

Looks like a nice trip. It was Porpoises you saw near Helsingør - not dolphins. Also, almost all danish churches have a ship model or several hanging from the ceiling.
@norwaywithpal3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Thomas, it was a very nice trip indeed! Are you really sure it's a porpoise? The face does not look like a porpoise, but more like a dolphin. I've been to Ærø several times and also seen the ships hanging there.
@Burgerfix3 жыл бұрын
@@norwaywithpal If you look at 2:48 you can see its cute blunt nose. Definetly a Porpoise. I just saw some during Sjælland Rundt, a race here in Denmark. We also saw seals.
@norwaywithpal3 жыл бұрын
@@Burgerfix hm, yea I think you are right. I think another reason why I doubted it was porpoises was that they came so close to the boat. The Norwegian porpoises don't do that, but maybe they are more shy :) Hope you did well in the Sjælland Race.
@kasperhansen4472 Жыл бұрын
@@norwaywithpal Just saw your conversation about the Porpoises. I live in- and sail around the Helsingør waters. I also thought that it looked like dolphins at first, because I have never seen porpoises play and jump like that off the bow. They normally stay away from boats as far as I have experienced. But as Thomas points out it clearly looks like its a blunt nose, and not the characteristic pointy dolphin nose. Cudos on the nice videos. I was very fond of the Anholt scenes, you captured some of the small island atmosphere there. I always loved the Swedish archipelago and have sailed quite a few times on both the west and the east coast, up to Stockholm. Very calm and beautiful up there. I used to live in the Oslo fjord when I was a teenager (1982-88) where we had a Knarr moored in Hestesundet between Landøya and Nesøya. Not a bad sailing background I was blessed with, thanks to my father. By the way, If you haven't been to Bornholm and Christians Ø you should go there. Go vind og medløbende sø til dig Pål🙂
@norwaywithpal Жыл бұрын
@@kasperhansen4472 Thanks for your comment Kasper! I'm no fish expert, and I'm still very surprised that porpoises would go this close to the boat, and play around. That does not happen in Norway, but maybe the danish ones are more social, as danes tend to be ;) We loved Anholt, and would love to sail to Bornholm and Christians Ø some day. Last year and the year before we sailed the south coast of Norway for the first time, and I have to say I was very impressed as well. It's such a tough choice every summer where to sail too being surrounded by all these pristine areas. What a luxury problem :)

you have main sail rolled around boom. Is it also ok to reef main like this?
@norwaywithpal4 жыл бұрын
Yes it is ok. It is actually how you are originally meant to reef. But I have to say it is not optimal, as the sail does not alway fold so nicely around the boom. Many Vega sailors have installed "normal" reefing (slab reefing) with reef hooks and lines back to cockpit.

8:53 - WRONG. "Kanelsnegle" DOES belong to the wonderful Danish family of wienerbrød - so does the "Spandauer", "Hanekam" and "Kringle" - and many more. WARNING!!!! Wienerpecan does NOT belong to this family and should be avoided at all cost. In rural parts of Denmark - if someone offers you wienerpecan - its a sign they want you to leave!
@norwaywithpal3 жыл бұрын
aha, so I was not wrong after all then! I did not know wienerbrød was an umbrella word for several types of pastry. I think at least in Norway most people think about wienerbrød as just that one with the yellow in the middle. (spandauer) funny about wienerpecan, and I actually rarely buy them as I find kanelsnegle and spandauer much more tasty. Tusen takk for the info!
