The silverwing started as a Gl500 motorcycle and eventually became a giant scooter. Competing head on with the burgman 650 this silverwing is slightly smaller and has less bells and whistles. But it's a bike with a enthusiastic audience. Just like many Hondas with followings, this Silverwing scooter has become a very sought after machine because of its comfort, reliability and ultra smoothness.

Owned a 2005 Silverwing for a couple years, and never really got more than 40mpg. Great bike, but it felt like a big scooter with a rubber band transmission. I miss it, but have since gotten a 2013 Burgman 650. The Burgman is a far superior bike from a luxury and refinement perspective. It'll cruise right at 85-90mph compared to the silverwing I'd rather cruise at 60-70mph. And the Burgman averages 51mpg for me. I'd recommend you try both, but I think you'll favor the Silverwing if you want something a bit more sporty, and the Burgman if you want the luxury tourer.

There was something wrong with your silverwing. Mine gets 48-52 mpg and will hit 90 + no problem.
@lambodp

@@tonybortner7345 Hard to say really. It ran well and I hit 100 a couple times, but the gas mileage was terrible. I did live in Seattle with plenty of hills and cold weather, so I assume that was a big contributor. Either way, the Burgman 650 is my favorite of the 2 bikes by a huge margin, even it if may not be as reliable long term.

My SW gets 52mpg consistently, cruises at 70mph, I've had it up to 109 a couple times, where I believe it's speed limited. It's excellent for my long commute. My wife and I max out the weight rating but it still gets around pretty well carrying both of us. No regrets over this purchase.

I'm 68 years old so the combined power and step thru design fits me perfectly. 2005 SW 600. Throwing my leg over a motorcycle doesn't agree with a worn out hip socket. It has all the gitty-up that I want.

I have an '03 the same color. I've owned a few motorcycles and decided to get back into riding now that I'm in my '60s. This bike is like a Swiss army knife. It's fast, it's agile, it's a lot of fun to ride, during the summer I rarely use my truck. You can get an astonishing amount of groceries under the seat with a little planning beforehand. Many times I push a cart to my scoot and people say where you going to put all those bags, and then their jaw drops when I get it all in. I also use it to do a 30 mile round trip commute mostly freeway riding.

Did you ever wake up first thing in the morning and the first thing you think about is your Silverwing outside your door? I still do now a few years later and its always a happy reference for me. I wasn't positive I wanted it the first time I went to see the guy I bought it from, after my test drive I had no good reason to actually say No... Within 20 miles of riding it home I started to fall in love. This encouraged me to get rid of my car and use it daily. It has taken me thousands of miles across town and thousands more into Mexico. Thank you for your review. I also have a Honda NC700X parked outside my door that also keeps me feeling well centered..

Awesome bike with great performance. Rode mine all around the US lower 48. 17k miles between belt changes!!!! Though I'm currently riding a Vespa, I miss my Swing. Looking good mate. Edit: I got 50mpg in city and 62 mpg riding the Blue Ridge as well as across the Salt Lake Flats. Avg was 56. That was on 2 2004 models and 1 2012 model. And yes, 60mph is the sweet spot.

Did you refer to this Silver Wing as a DCT? It is a CVT. No problem, though. DCT is Dual Clutch Transmission and is on the N series bikes now, like the NC750X and its scooter brothers. CVT is Constantly Variable transmission. A DCT has 'real' gears, i.e. a gear box, but the changes are done by the system not the rider. A CVT as, basically, two pulleys and a v-belt and the width of the pulleys change to give something like an automatic box gives on a car. Honda's DCT is genius, but then again so is a CVT.

I just got an 03 with 8500 miles. Good looking and great riding scooter. I also had an 02 back in 2011. Really great for any type of riding. I got about 46 mpg but I love to accelerate to cruising speed rapidly. I’m certain it can get 50+mpg if you really want to. It’s just a pleasure to ride.

Saw a F6B today. Guy was trying to baby it around the intersection. It triggered the sensor and got a green with no issues. I'm sure the six outlet pipes helped even though it's probably dual with cats or mufflers. Somehow I bet those were aftermarket but still unusually quiet

As a GL500I/650I rider, I have thought of the maxi scooter. The GL seems to perform rather like the scooter, but it is much more top heavy, which I've only come to notice with age....the Pacific Coast and Deauville are the other members of a long Honda line of light tourers/commuters, and along with the scooter Silverwing have much more storage than the GL's, whose luggage looks nice but is rather small.
