The Steuart Hotel - Colombo Fort area. Having not visited Scotland since 2017 I decided to have a wee taste of home by staying in a Scottish hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
How authentic is a Scottish hotel in Sri Lanka? Are there any deep-fried Mars Bars on the room service menu? Can I get a glass of Irn Bru from their Scottish pub? Follow me as I take a wee look.
The Steuart Hotel is located in the Colombo Fort area and is a great location if you're travelling in and out by train as it's near the city's main railway station.

Yes, if you come to Sri Lanka try to do it for at least 2 weeks. It looks like a small island but its landscape means transport around the country is very slow.

When I went to Colombo just prior to the civil war ending it wasn't pristine and clean. All these travel blogs seem to concentrate on the affluent central part of the city which IMO isn't representative of the whole of Colombo. I stayed a few Ks down in the beach area and it was more noisy and polluted. Hopefully things have improved since then.

Doug M The civil war was a dark time in SL, people were more focused on trying not to get killed in a terrorist attack than pristine city maintenance. Obviously things are incredibly different now, neat, clean, and maintained 24/7 pretty much everywhere.

@@Dale_Philip North India is perhaps the most frequented by western tourists. But I can tell you that the most serene parts of the country are in the Northeastern Himalayas. They are a fascinating niche destination. Especially Arunachal, Sikkim, Mizoram and Nagaland. I speak from experience 🙂

Think it was $82 but I looked more recent and there were deals for $55. Guess it depends how busy are. To be honest you're mostly paying for location. You can get better hotels for that price of you want to stay further out.
