I flew to Sri Lanka to eat Street Food. 🇱🇰

My Sri Lankan friend Jeremy took me to a street food festival in Colombo. It seemed to be very popular with the locals but I didn't see any other white faces there. I guess the tourists don't know about it yet.
The event is called Eat St CMB and is held in the Colombo 07 area, which I'm told is an upmarket area of the city.
There were about 50 stalls selling international cuisine and some local Sri Lankan street food as well, the type you normally see somewhere like Galle Face Green. The only local food I actually tried was the crab and once again it got the better off me. I've really no idea how to eat those small crabs as it just seems to be all shell and no meat.
The highlight for me was the Kunafa. An Arabian dish that I'd never heard of before but will certainly be ordering again the next time I see it on a menu.
I ate until I was full and only spent 1,420 which is less that £6. I'm well satisfied with that.

Dale, another great video!... it's amazing to see how Sri Lanka has changed so much since my childhood!... you can buy anything these days and almost every type of food!... ...and so cheap!!!!... I love Faluda too!.. I used to buy a bottle of rose syrup and packet of basil seeds to bring back to England to make my own Faluda here!... all I had to do was add fresh milk and a dolop of ice cream!.... (there should be pasta pieces in it too but I just love the "frog spawn!" 😂)... great to see all these food markets and thanks for always giving the prices in rupees and sterling so I can compare the costs!... darn cheap!... you can eat so much for so little with foreign currency!... when I was a child it was a treat to get food from Galle Face Green, Green Cabin, Perera & Sons, Chinese Pagoda, Fountain Cafe!... now look at the choice!!!... my late uncle was the Cold Stores Manager of Elephant House in Colombo so we used to get all the flavoured pop and ice cream delivered home! (ice cream came in paper tubs!... only 3 flavours but were so delicious back then!... the ice cream doesn't taste so good now!).... there was a drink called Lanka Cola (I don't know if Elephant House produce it anymore?!).... my favourite was cream soda and the green fizzy drink (can't remember the flavour now!)... but those days the treats were so limited but Sri Lankan cakes and short eats (that's Singlish for snacks) were so tasty back then but they were all traditional foods and not the modern foreign stuff like pizza, etc!.... I can't wait to visit Colombo and hit these food markets which are popping up everywhere.... so much to see, do and experience in Colombo now!... so exciting with new 5 star hotels, restaurants and shopping malls.... I've only been to Cargills, Odel, Liberty Plaza and Majestic as all these other places didn't exist back then... any 5 star hotels in central Colombo back then have changed...now you have Movenpick, Kingsbury, Shangri-La.... I remember names like Ceylinco, Lanka Oberoi, Galadari... I think they have all changed names and new ones have also popped up!... the Hilton is still there and I love to go there and have lunch!... recommend the Kingsbury too if you want to spend more on an expensive treat and you will have a huge choice of very fine Cordon Bleu cuisine from all over the world in an "eat as much as you want buffet!"... I'm sure with your huge appetite and love for food you would really enjoy it!...another huge thumbs up for this video as although I've heard about these markets, you are the first person I've seen eating and recommending them!... I need the perspective from a Lankan and a foreign visitor...so great again to see you and Jeremy doing this together especially as you have visited Lanka so many times now and know most of the dishes!... so it was good for you to realise that Faluda wasn't the real deal and report it back to us as another visitor wouldn't have known!!! 😀❤👌👍

Aup Dale your videos are like I'm right there however I'm in bloody England bed bound at the min I was recently diagnosed with stage 1 heart failure and still comming to turns with it I'm 45, and for last 4 days when I first wake up I start watching your videos, I've seen some others but your personality is what keeps me watching, I can say that if I was 20 years younger and in good health I would of loved to do what your doing and living now. Seems like the best of India condensed into a small scale. A little better developed, cleaner, less extreme poverty. However it doesn't have the beautiful cities and palaces of India. Apart from Kandy the towns in SL are mundane & all the same. Colombo is an overdeveloped eyesore with little to offer. There's no Jodhpur or Udaipur. Kandy is nice but it's not comparable to Shimla and the Himalayas. The beaches in SL are better however. Different destinations for different desires.
