This is one of my favorite dungeon crawls and I have everything for it. It is rules heavy and easy to forget something, but it is still an absolute blast to play. The only thing I don't like is each scenario is timed. The scrolls that activate the monsters is genius. Can't tell you whether you keep it or not, but this will always be in my collection. Anyway, see you in the next one.

Hey Rob, you definitely need to keep it. This is my number 1 game. It has all the crunch and the depth that make it a tactical masterpiece. The best project would be to create a sandbox campaign for it by combining all the expansions. It is made for this, to be played as a sandbox and homebrews. Thank you for the content

My wife’s favorite game, led to lots of other complex games for her. The rules are pretty complex, but better written than Dungeon Crusade (that we still haven’t given up in yet). We’ve played pretty much all of the episodes/expansions. This will stay in our shelves as Gloomhaven leaves. We think S&S is unique and enjoyable enough to keep and replay. Would be glad to help you with rules questions. Would also be glad to play it with you with Zoom is your interested.

Thanks for bringing this game up again. It's over there, sitting on my shelf next to so many other dungeon crawlers that I play more often. It's taunting me to, like you, either play it again with a different mindset, or let it go to make way for perhaps better crawlers I haven't yet experienced. The funny thing is, when I start thinking about playing this game, I wander over to Dungeon Crusade.

If I were you, I’d set it up and play a few rounds. Take some B-roll/Photos of the game to capture your painted miniatures and creativity. Then I would take a two minute “do absolutely nothing” break and just visualize how playing the game for another hour would feel. The valence of that emotion would be my answer. Either way, I’d have my pictures to help capture the memory of the experience. ☯️

This game is 🔥 definitely give it another go. The tiles, the art and the painted minis are great. The campaign is fun and frankly once you learn the game it really isn’t that complex. I would say it’s more intimidating than it is complex. The AI mechanic on the mobs are what set that game a part. This isn’t a roll and move trash game sand it isn’t a mobs moving and attacking the closes hero game either. With the expansions and extra heroes you have so many options for your partry that actually feel unique. The leveling system and character development is also great.

I love this game and have painted all of Immortal Souls and expansions. Models are great and get used in League of Dungeoneers as well. And I think the tiles are amongst my favourite of all my dungeon crawlers. I have enjoyed developing my characters and would play the campaign again. I did buy Ancient Chronicles as well, but haven't done anything with it yet. I passed on the 3rd one.

I would give it another try. Its my second favorite dungeon crawl behind Middara. I've actually been thinking about getting it to the table again as well. I played through the base game and Darkness Falls but now I want to try the Arcane Portal and Vastaryous' Lair expansions.

We finished the entire Act 1, Act 1.5 and Act 2 campaign. It’s great once you really get the AI down. However, with all the dungeon crawlers today, I can’t blame someone for passing. As for you, since you painted it, I would give it another try.

The thing about S&S is that it requires commitment. For us, the clunkiness smoothed out after 3 or 4 times of it hitting the table and we really got the feel for it. Our characters developed and we really got into the TTRPGing. That being said, I still ALWAYS miss something on the big monster's AI card and have to re-do some stuff. I put that down to ADHD brain though.

I bought this game early on in my board gaming “career” and man it was a bit much, at the time and frankly I could appreciate something like this more(also back then I wasn’t much of a solo gamer cause I actually had a game group). But I get your reservations. I mean we are inundated with solid dungeon crawl-esque games: Gloomhaven, Frosthaven, Kinfire, less involved ones like Heroquest, the great Warhammer Quest, and even app assisted “sprawling” corridor titles like Journeys in Middle Earth and Mansions of Madness. S&S is kind of overly complicated, but not in the areas most fans of these titles want it to be. People will just flock to Middara or League of Dungeoneers for the “heavy” game experience over this, I would think. That’s just my two cents, and I’m sure I’m way off base

Aside from this game's awful rulebook layout, editing, and translation, this game is an absolute blast. I love the area-based mechanics, and once you actually wrap your head around the AI behaviors, it's a perfectly tense and fun crawler. Between the area stuff and the d10's with special sides, it has a flavor all its own.

One of the greatest dungeon crawlers - but it is not as easy to pick and play as Warhammer Quest for instance. If you want something deeper and more interesting with monster intelligence that is upscaled then i think its worth a bit more effort - it will depend on your desire to have at least one person taking time to learn and embed the rule set. I wont be getting rid of my copy , as it is such an interesting game - i take it over games like Middara, Drunagor, Massive Darkness and keep it alongside my other favourites Warhammer Quest and Descent. You really dont have to worry about getting everything dead right, just play it and enjoy the fun, i think being overly concerned about nailing everything gets in the way mentally for some people.

Its a good game, but i struggle to get it to the table. I think it needs a bit of streamlining or slimming down in mechanics. Do the enemies need so many alternative actions? Could that just be solved by different enemies? - which would streamline things a little. Does it really need the whole ghost mechanic? Its a good game, but it could be better. I did jot back the last Kickstarter (the nautical/ cthulu style one) as it seems to only lean even more into additional mechanics/ resources, as opposed to just giving us a new adventure with new enemies, heroes and loot. Ill be keeping mine, as i want to finish it all including ancient chronicles, but il may do a bit of home rules to speed things up.

From my experience, I will get rid of a game and later on down the road I think to myself, did I really give a game a fair shake ? So I will buy the game again. After reading the rules again and playing it, I get reminded why I got rid of it in the first place. Go with your first gut instinct.
