I have seen a bunch of Documentations about North Korea and one thing that always seems to happen that needs to stop is: The interviewer always asks the citizens those questions that will get them into trouble. You can see it on their faces on just how uncomfortable it is for them, cause they know, if they don't repeat what they were told, they will get into **HUGE** troubles that we might not be able to imagine. Please stop asking the citizens those questions. Maybe leave it at a single one and move on. The citizens are not at fault for this. But they will pay the price if they give the 'wrong' answer, which is what you want to hear, with them saying something positive about 'their enemy'. They cannot answer those questions freely but we keep pressing the issue with every single interview. I think that is wrong.

Read Project 2025 & 47. & watch YOU'VE BEEN TRUMPED TOO. How he broke a water pipe to a lady who was almost 90yo b/c she refused to sell him her land for his golf course. For 5yrs she had to buy drinking water & use lake water to bathe & wash dishes. When her neighbor finally discovered what was wrong & paid to have it fixed, tRump sent papers to have him sued for messing around on his golf course land! But as for NK, he's said he's going to put the homeless in camps & make them work. The same kind of "camps" that NK has. The documentary was simultaneously honest and compelling _(all within the parameters of their government)._ If Kim Jong Un hoped we'd find affection and admiration for North Koreans, he got what he wanted; if CNN hoped to reveal new things about North Korea, it also won. There's a reason Kim Jong Un allows this journalist to keep returning. This report _(or story)_ from Will Ripley is among CNN's best work.

Yeah this is a great summary. Before I say this I want to say that North Korea is probably still a horrible place to live with strict rules and horrible punishments. That being said I thought it was more horrible than this documentary shows. I thought there was barely, if any, entertainment. I thought it focused most of ita energies on production. To see arcades (even though those arcades had ulterior motives), rock climbing, rowing, etc. was surprising. When yhey got out of Pyongyang was more what I expected from the whole country. Even then there were places to dine out. Im not sure how much use these places get without journalists there but the kids didnt seem like they were doing anything out of the norm. Interesting. That is not to say things are fine there its just there is more personal enjoyment in life than I expected.

Yes, and some of the reporter's questions are dumb because if it's true everything is controlled then why they would tell him how they really feel because when he leaves anything can happen to them.

2:20 That is a lie! United States of America (USA) did not start the Korean War. North Korea started the Korean War on the 25th June 1950 because North Korea invaded South Korea and ceased after an armistice on the 27th of July 1953.

I've liked the documentary, but you could put some effort in the subtitles which are desynchronized. I speak approximative English, and very hard to follow.

I like how he asks the questions but doesn't push for an answer (as it could risk their lives). Instead, gives them food for silent thought and reflection. While giving us a peak into how north koreans think. Being uncomfy isnt negetive, sometimes u need to face uncomfortable situations to change ur view and perspective. At least question things

15:05 "we will liberate south korea" how unbelievably backwards can you be :( north korea and liberty aren't in the same ball park. Not even in the same universe, or multiverse. Whenever i watch these documentaries i often wonder whether these people genuinely believe what they say or if they just say it because they know that if they dont say the right thing then their entire extended family will be shipped of to concentration camps.
