A Sensory Friendly Nutcracker: SF Ballet partners with Autism Society San Francisco Bay Area

Back for a second year in 2023, the Sensory Friendly Nutcracker Performance is designed to create a welcoming performing arts experience for people with autism, sensory input disorders, sensory sensitivities, or other physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities, and their families, friends, and caretakers. In collaboration with our community partners from Autism Society San Francisco Bay Area, SF Ballet has made special accommodations to the performance and theater-going experience to make neurodiverse audiences feel welcome to experience Nutcracker in a fun, accepting environment.

I took my son who is diagnosed with autism and my niece who is diagnosed with Rett syndrome to the performance on December 30, 2023. It was the most magical event that we have experienced together! I’ve loved this ballet since I was in high school. And I’m so happy to be able to share it from beginning to end in a welcoming, warm and loving environment. Thank you so much!
