I was disappointed with the remake's ending. Yet another Hollywood cop-out of an incredible piece of original, thought-provoking cinema. btw are you on Letterboxd?

Hi Lucas! I'm a huge fan of your videos, and I think your channel is under rated. These days, when I wanna watch a new movie, instead of watching something and later hoping to see you've reviewed it, I search your channel and only if I find you've already reviewed it, I decide to watch it. THAT is how much I like your content. Your recent videos don't do justice to the quality I've associated your channel with, and as a viewer, I wanna offer my 2 cents how you can improve it. Basically, in your older videos, you talk CALMLY, and SLOWLY. Your voice is therapeutically calm, and so talking calmly goes well with it. Talking slowly also helps with the viewer analyzing the movie in their mind with their own interpretation based off of your comments. Unfortunately, both of these aspects have suffered in your recent videos. You don't seem as calm as before and you speak quite fast. Consider that you've prepared your thoughts in advance but we're hearing them for the first time, and we need to process what you're saying, what we think about it, and connect it to the scenes we're watching in the video. That's all. Regardless, appreciate your videos and wish you well 😊

The Danish ending (while super shocking) is so much deeper than people may think, and I’m so glad you could break that meaning down so well, incredible video!

@@shawnpierre5755 thank you so much! I had fun with the American ending for sure (and my theatre was super into it too) but the Danish ending stuck with me for much longer and had me thinking day and night about its ideas. Super cool to hear you felt so similarly

I disagree that Ben didn’t have a redemption in the remake. When they were high on the roof being chased, it was he who fell off and hurt his ankle in order to grab the ladder and set it up to support his family so they could climb down safely. That’s an incredible sacrifice and shows masculinity IMO. Also, jumping in the pond to save Ant was brave whether it was stupid or not

I went into this movie last night almost completely blind. I had only seen the trailer once months ago and had honestly forgotten it until about 20 minutes into the film when I was like “oh yeah!” I saw the original a few hours ago. My initial reaction is that while some elements were more successful in the original…the remake was just better at making me feel uncomfortable, anxious, and afraid. McAvoy is more intimidating, the cinematography is better at communicating that awkward moment, and most of all that the children are real characters in their own right in the remake and not just the set decorations they are in the Danish version. I appreciate the remake for making the children people too especially since they are what the antagonists ultimately want. Including the children in the plot actually made me care about this family in a way I just didn’t in the original. Both child actors did a phenomenal job. I haven’t seen any review even mention them at all. Their inclusion makes a major difference IMO. The Danish ending made me sad for the girl, but tbh I really didn’t give a f*ck about that family for the majority of the film. Also, ppl saying the ending of the remake isn’t shocking or disturbing…we watch a small, abused boy have to bash his abusers brains in with a brick and the final shot is of his traumatized little face while he’s most likely feeling like he’s become a monster just like McAvoy bc of his last line “That’s my boy.” Like…what? How desensitized are we y’all?!!

11:46 Okay, I like the idea, but also a bit scared of the director's concept of human nature.😅 It's true that facing darkness probably brings out the rawest sides of our being, but I don't think living free with no care for other is ideal either. The answer should be in the balancing act. Scandi directors sure have the wildest observation on civility and pretension though.

I see where you’re coming from but I don’t think he means what he said in the interview in the same way he communicates it in the film. I think the film is going for the much more hyperbolic and symbolic way of sending the message (with topics of death, shame, punishment, and loss). He’s really just saying we should practice more honesty with others and with ourselves, and not let the customs of modern life compromise our character. It’s actually the same message as what you just said about the balancing act, I completely agree with you as well and I think that’s exactly it

In the original, they say their culture are the most closely. I thought, at the first, that was the point because when they spent time together, they realized the differences. The dutch couple was more open mind and the danish was more conservative. The things changed when the guy said he was not a doctor. We usually trust in people based on their position in society, and when he confessed he wasn't a doctor, my perception over him changed

Do you like the Remake’s ending? What are your thoughts on it?
@lucasblue203 ай бұрын
I enjoyed both endings but I definitely like the original ending more. The remake ending seemed more interested in thrilling us, which it did very well (especially with McAvoy who is incredible), rather than digging deeper into the ideas that it was exploring. But at the same time, the original already did that, so it may have felt like an unnecessary movie if it went in the more thematic direction. So overall, I’d say the perfect ending to a less fulfilling movie as a whole if that makes sense, but still enjoyable. And I could CERTAINLY see a lot of people preferring this one over the original and I won’t fight them on it haha

While I see the remake as a typical Hollywood thriller, the original has a deeper meaning to it. And i interpret it differently than other reviewers have done. The Danish couple symbolizes a spineless, emasculated and pathetic European civilization incapable of protecting itself from an invading civilization portrayed by the Dutch couple. Specifically it means the uncontrolled immigration from Islamic cultures that brings violence upon the weak European civilization. This is especially stressed in the very end of the movie when the Dutch couple stones the Danish couple to death. Stoning is a barbaric execution method strongly associated with Islam.
