I am not usually the one for romance or emotional animes or movies, but I can tell this much for sure, this anime helped me realize how I can battle my own depressions and move on from my past. Truly a fantastic anime movie and I feel like there should be an actual remake of this movie with real people so that people who dont like watching anime also watch it. This is easily a 10/10 in my book.
@chunklate41363 жыл бұрын
I think a lot of what makes this movie special is the subtleties animation brings too it. I get wanting a live action version for ppl that dont like anime but also this is the movie I so often recommend to ppl as a gateway to anime. It highlights what anime can do as a medium for art and storytelling.

Everything in this movie is incredible. The music, the use of a shaking camera, the use of slow motion, the attention to detail, the characters, the animation (the animation on the characters facial expressions especially), the story, the voice acting, it all works impeccable. I watched this movie in the dub, and I have never seen a movie before where I can name 10+ scenes thats got me emotional. 3 scenes in particular almost made me break down crying when I watched it for the first time. By the time I had finished the movie I knew that I had just witnessed a masterpiece. 10/10 movie.
@ebrahiem71183 жыл бұрын
I think the music in this movie is half of its success. The music is Brilliant, the opening bridge scene plays the song "frc" its calm and peaceful noises played in an uneasy way. And later on as Shoya walks to Nishimiya's house, my god, the slow build up, playful cheerful noises, erratic like fireworks then on to the best part of the film the culmination, the final beat unravels as Shoya starts accepting himself and can live again bring himself and the viewer to tears.

If you read the manga and find the reason why he wanted to kill himself its just very heartbreaking The reason really resonated with me because I also at some point in my life used to think like that and it feels stupid now but at the time it truly felt like the right think to do. I would suggest anybody who has not read the manga to go check it out it is very good and also it goes indepth into all the characters more so than the movie.

Jesus Christ this movie. I watched it yesterday and I'm itching to watch it again. I love it when a story looks at all characters from a sympathetic view no matter how complicated and seemingly unlikable they are. I love the themes of self-forgiveness and most of all I love both the main characters as flawed as they may be. The movie left me wanting so much more (which imo is a testament to great writing). Their relationship to me was absolutely adorable. I 100% believe Ishida was about to admit to himself that he loves her before he was cut off by his fall in the suicide scene. I'm not even usually a fan of anime, but my god do I love this movie.

The opening - he is planning/rehearsing in his head still - the "final day" was still coming up on the calendar; but first he has to be "content" that Shoko is going to be fine without him and "maybe" she would give him forgiveness. The fireworks is foreshadowing likely, but also it breaks his attention to to basically get out of his daydream (planning). His intention in the original meeting was to "tie up ends" the best he could - BUT he unexpected asks to be her friend (which is a relationship question - which messes up his plan to end his life). Why he asks that question is worth pondering - I believe it has something to do with his brain realizing she was saying that to him over and over years ago and tying it together - basically seeing her he acted it out but really it was him awaking up to her desire for it all those years ago; perhaps cued by her asking about him learning to sign and his mind thinking of her and her signing in the past. Very good video and insight as well.

On a more serious note, I will say this. I genuinely dislike the ending of this movie, especially the moment where the X's fall. This is because it doesn't happen like that at all. They fall individually and it's not in one go either and like you stated yourself, it sometimes randomly just comes back again. Koe no Katachi focuses on bullying and growing up around a deaf person. The mental trauma side is handled in a little hamfisted way in my opinion. If you really want to get those X's out of your life, you have to follow Nietzsche, build up your own values and foundations up from nothing. When you do this, when you have your own values, there is nothing that others can say, or do to shake that foundation and you can root yourself on that foundation when your brain tries to go on a 'self-loathing tour'. It gives you tools to fight these moments all on your own. Note, I'm not saying you shouldn't rely on friends, or that they're not helpful, or anything like that. They are still extremely important and allow you to handle these fights even better.
