I'm working on a video involving static grass and came here for a refresher course. Was NOT disappointed! :D You have a really pleasant, straightforward, and info-packed presentation style that I really like. Thank you!

Checked your channel mate, love it! May I suggest you take a look at my back to basics playlist, plus my grass playlist, there's a lot of updated vids in those playlists. Hope they help you mate

Even with your 10 year old videos you are still teaching me things Mel. I never thought about using a balloon 😅

I finally got the stuff together and made an applicator from a fly zapper. Gonna see how well static grass works for 10mm scale. i have some 2mm grass so I'll see if that looks right. Uh, one thing that I had forgotten about was the discharging of the rig when you're all done. My nervous system thanks you whole-heartedly. ;-)

Thanks for the tips!! I just started painting minis again after 5 years and noticed we my static grass in my container was all clumped. I wasnt happy how it looked on the mini base and was wondering if there was an easy way to make it stand up. Balloon!! Brilliant!! Thanks again! I love your videos. :)

Yeah, the applicator is a lot better than the balloon but I prefer being waterboard over the shock you get from the applicator mate

Have you ever tried to get a static charge build up a glass rod, rubbed up against a piece of furr?? If my old memory serves me, I thought way back in high school, we used that trick to generate one. Now you made ME want to try this. . . . :)

ishyab011 I've tried a few different methods but electricity is the best way to get a strong static charge mate, the other ways are just too variable to be usable to be honest.

Hi, what is the best way of sealing static grass once it has been applied? I have built some scenery for wargaming but now it is starting to shed the grass. I would like to find a way of sealing it / fixing it in place to minimise this? Some people have suggested hairspray but I can’t believe that it would last, or to use a diluted PVA but I am worried that will clump or discolour the finish. Any advice much appreciated please?

One other note of something I was thinking about, how about using a surgical glove while using the applicator? Wonder if the small amount of laytex and rubber would help prevent a nasty little shock???? Again, something I will also try......well maybe. :)

ishyab011 You probably could but as long as you're careful, there's no real risk of a shock mate

Yeesh, I'll stick with the balloon method xD I do not like the feeling of the static shock you get when you touch the car door on cold mornings.

I've had a shock off mine, quite a belt from a couple of small batteries!

What happens to the grass when the balloon explodes?
@TheTerrainTutor9 жыл бұрын
+mailperson not sure what happens to the static charge when a balloon pops, I'm assuming it just discharges

6:20 why not just use a plastic comb?

Rubbing that gallon reminded me of fingernails on a blackboard…🙂
