Under rated item to check is the air filter. I changed mine in February as I got the bike last year. There was leaves and sticks from squirrels above the filter. Now I check every so often. So far it's clean yet

I had a China bike run oil for about 10k miles.... the black void of a liquid that exited the drain was glittery in the sun. I have a honda now and change when the oil is amber in color. That china bike also taught me valve adjustments, tire/brake replacement, sprocket swap, bearing removal, engine rebuilds, and even some electrical. I'm sure I could've learned the same and then some with a Japanese design, but china makes great copies at realistic prices

converting for USD, my place does the oil-change, including oil, inspection and chain tension for about $80. I already did my change first thing I could and got an off-season discount so it came out to like $68 with taxes. The spec oil + filter cost just shy of $40, so I am quasi tempted to let them do it while keeping a paper-trail for when I sell.

i usually change my back tyre when it starts what we call in the UK "tracking" , that is that it follows grooves in the road, which pushed our steering just a bit out of line, but enough to be annoying. also makes the bike be difficult to push into turns and then drops in suddenly. I'd say around 4k miles on a rear tyre, but change them both at the same time, unless you were a dispatch rider like me, then just buy any old crap to do 500 miles per day on

About the oil changes...read your owner's manual. The way they did it in this video is how Triumph tells you NOT to do it. Fill engine with oil until oil starts running out of the oil filter housing, THEN install the filter. You'll create an airlock if you put the filter on first. Read your owner's manual.

So what did i do, bought some tires from them an i already had my wheels off so i bring them in they dont say a word but the sale was only if you brought the entire bike in with wheels still on the bike, i didn't get the sale because i made it easier for them lol. Cost me $175 on top of the tires i bought, lesson learned never go back to a dealership for any thing, for the cost of service i can just buy whatever tools i dont have to do the job. @drummer8110009 ай бұрын
Would you say it's hard to learn? Or can anyone do it without having to take courses or something?
@halcyon_studio9 ай бұрын
@@drummer811000 It's really not that difficult unless you're doing actual engine / transmission work. I wouldn't adjust my own valves, as an example, personally. I've done everything from PAIR valve delete, swapping tires (I have them mounted and balanced at CycleGear), installing full exhausts, etc. just using KZbin as a resource. No issues so far. You definitely need some tools, specifically two or three torque wrenches (one smaller one for inch lbs, a middleground one up to 75ft lbs, and a big boy for axel nuts, etc. up to 120+ ft lbs or so) The thing about torque wrenches is they have an accuracy range of the middle 60% or something like that, so you'll want a variety for specific torque values. Torque values you can find on bike-specific forums, or you can buy a service manual.
@halcyon_studio9 ай бұрын
@@drummer811000 you'll need rear and front wheel stands, need to lift the bike for anything tire related. Oil changes are better to do with the bike vertical on stands or in a wheel chock as well. Will also need a solid set of deep sockets. It's definitely an investment to do your own maintenance, for me it was less about the money and more about wasted time bringing my bike somewhere to get basic maintenance done.
@Immortalbear919 ай бұрын
Depends on the person. If I take it apart, I can put it back together. Are you handy, own tools and have common sense? If you you can do most maintenance by yourself
@halcyon_studio9 ай бұрын
I think my first reply disappeared for some reason, but I mentioned needing at least two torque wrenches to cover all possible fastener torque values. Torque values can be found on bike-specific forums or you can buy a service manual for your bike.

The thing about oil is that there is always going to be oil in your system that you can't get out, so when you fill your system, you could over fill it and mix good oil with bad oil, everybody knows that's a no no. This is coming for a mechanic! Also, in school for becoming a diesel tech. when draining oil, run the bike until oil stops flowing out completely re-install plug and fill...👍 also doing that way you'll never have to change your oil again, it'll always be fresh 😁
