You give some excellent tips and have an awesome style of animating. I love the cartoony feel. Been doing pixel art for a few months now and I'm improving everyday and these videos help me better translate what I've read (The Animators Survival Kit, a great read btw). Whats one of the first things you ever animated, and what have you done aside from regular practice, to improve to where you are now? For instance, did you do paper and pencil to lay down your drawning foundations? Did you read books? Did you learn from others more experienced than you? Keep these things coming man! I wanna see your work go places!

Hey thanks for the supportive words - they're much appreciated! To quickly answer your questions: The earliest thing I can remember animating (in pixel art) was this little Yoda sprite, nothing special but it was what got me started ahah. Besides practising, I would analyse other people's work to death. I'd try to understand their style, copying it, looking through their animations frame by frame to figure out what's going on. Understanding the 12 principles of animation was also huge help. Thanks for the questions, I might try and answer them with more depth in future videos :)

Thanks for sharing! I can say this is definitely an extremely fun and interesting style of art. I'm pushing towards making my own game and the journey has been all but inspiring so far. Have you ever had a desire to make video games or more advanced animations? Your work certainly fits the rolls! Cheers man @@nootall

In some fighting games they use hitstop in heavier attacks to really juice the moment. It's only a few frames and often barely noticeable. In smash though it's a stop, a zoom, and then the action resumes. Love your choice of street fighter clip there. Zangief versus Dhalsim is a classic match up. And Itazan is the best Zangief player in Japan. Subscribed.

I wonder what your chicken serving a knuckle sandwich would look like, if the last hit had a slight pause and a screen flash.

Hi noot, your arts are AWESOME holy, i really to follow your style of animation and the style of pixel art. What sprite size did you use? I'm not a begginer in pixel art but i dont know how animate my sprites and the sprites i made are very small like 32x32

Hey thanks, much appreciated! As for the sprite size, this animation is actually similar to what you have: 36x32. Well, that's the chicken, not the entire thing.

It's called aseprite. It's free if you compile it from source, but otherwise its $20.
