To some of us, we believe the canvas size needs to be a certain way for it to be exported into a new system. If im doing a character it doesnt matter, but if im doing a background i want to make sure it fits. So what im understanding is the canvas size must not matter, because it can be changed to suit the needs later

Thank yoooou, creating custom brushes from layers was exactly the functionality I was looking for and your video was the first one I checked 😂 Although I was hoping for something more like an instance that you populate at an origin point on each frame and if you make changes to the reference those changes are updated to each frame its used. Do you know of any features like that?

I think this is a good idea, though I feel like you might end up making a lot of stuff you won't end up using. Personally, I would instead look through the assets I already have and see if I can modify any of them into the the I want. I'd rather figure out what I need as I progress making my game. I can then add that new thing to my toolbox. Think my approach saves more time, though I can see the benefit of making varients in the moment
@nootall4 ай бұрын
Yeah that would be a more sensible approach, I suppose it depends on how you best work! For me, momentum is a big thing. If Im rolling and in the swing of things, it's easier to just produce a big pile of things at once and then leave out the bits I don't want to use. Otherwise, I'm doing a lot of back and forth, stopping and starting, that id ideally avoid
@cheepcheep22044 ай бұрын
I always thought I was the only one doing this sprite recycling. One of my favs was a spiky sentinal enemy i created by combining some some crystal spike tileset with a metal pipe lol A great side effect to this is that your assets look very consistent in game since they are basically all derivatives of each others base forms and colors. great video
@nootall4 ай бұрын
Yes! Consistency. Absolutely. The more new stuff you produce from scratch, the greater chance you'll ruin the feeling of continuity.

Just got Aseprite 4 days ago and been making pixel art daily since. Did my first animation ever on it with no problem. There's a very small learning curve to the program and a couple guides sorted that out in under an hour. Could not recommend more for pixel artists.
@nootall4 ай бұрын
Hey that's awesome, thanks for sharing 👍 glad to hear it's been relatively easy so far. Do you have history with other similar kinds of software? I found that helped a lot for me when starting out.
@Kmn4834 ай бұрын
@@nootall I used an old Gimp version prior to this, but found the program to require more effort for the same results in Pixel Art with less relevant tools and a cluttered UI. Only did 1-3 pics a YEAR on Gimp, across 12 years. Gave up on trying animation. Aseprite separating frames from layers helps infinitely! And link cells are the cherry on top. Sooo much easier than learning animation off just frames. It took me 17 hours to make a 20s animation, but I'm proud of the result and I'm learning how to be more efficient as I go!
@nootall4 ай бұрын
@@Kmn483 Absolutely, the timeline is a real blessing lol. And a 20s animation in pixel art is some real commitment! I can't say i've done anything close to that. A lot of frames 😶🌫

So. I recorded the audio here without the time-lapse in front of me, and I won't be doing that again. There's a lot of unfocused waffling/rambling because of the fact, which is probably annoying - my bad. Next time I'll have the video in front of me so that the commentary is more relevant to what's happening on screen.
