I went into this film with expectations fueled by resentment and cynicism. "So the millionaire fashion guy has decided he wants to make a film" Walking out of the cinema feeliing horribley guilty that I had sullied this masterpiece with my own bitterness. I cry when I watch this, not from sadness, but because there is hope..

There are at least two scenes of him under water, writhing for air. Is there a better metaphor for suffering, especially at the lost of a loved one? I think not. The music is amazing, the acting, is amazing. It should have won every award for which it was nominated.

OMG, what a beauty! This film is perfect in every sense of the word - exquisite and powerful acting, his ability of conveying emotions, the masterful directing, the light and colours ever changing depending on his feelings and his states of mind, the magnificent music, everything is so refined, delicate and deeply emotional. A work of art.

For me, very touching scene. After spending the evening in a bar, I went to my literature teacher´s place. We slept in a same bed, but he snored so badly I had to take his bathrobe and go to the sofa to get some sleep. After few hours he came to me, still a bit drunk, still dark, saying ´morning´ and sitting next to me. That was the first time I saw his tattoo. One of the most beautiful moments of my life.

Movie based on Christopher Isherwood's life is remarkable. The clarity is absolute. Like the everlasting moment is here for an instant.
@sidneyfrederickson39416 жыл бұрын
Not word for word, but many of the locations are based on where Isherwood lived and frequented. The beach and bar where George and Jim meet is in one of the isolated canyons off Highway One/ Pacific Coast Highway next to the "gay" section of Will Rogers Beach. Isherwood and Don Bachrady lived up one of those canyons and would walk down for a drink or swim. The book is more a reflection on the social and physical isolation gay men felt back then, as reflected in his monologue about "Becoming George" like it's a mask or makeup, not truly HIM.

I recently downloaded the book through Google Play Store. The Brits do some amazing books. The First one I read was Saturday Night & Sunday Morning by Allen Sillitoe. He, Candace Bushnell (Sex & The City), Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones Diary) and Armistead Maupin (Tales Of The City), had their stories first serialized in Newspapers. Now they are literary classics.

It's based on the book A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood. My professor in college had us read it in 2009 before the movie came out. This is one of my favorite novels. I've read almost everything major that Christopher Isherwood wrote. Berlín Stories and A Single Man being my favorites.
