There really isn't much of a difference between drowning and experiencing loss. Breathing seems impossible, you feel either nothing or too much, your panic is binding. This scene shows how visceral grief can be.

Actually i attended college during the 1980’s and I was shocked when my chemistry professor pulled out a cigarette from her purse and started smoking it. 😳I went to school in the Midwest.

Actually, I paid attention and came to see this because I just have seen "Nocturnal Animals" directed by Tom Ford. So I just found this movie of him either. It looks so brilliant, I will see it soon. Jane Le I saw Nocturnal Animals and I didn't think it was as good as A Single Man. I mean the acting was good but the story wise, wasn't as good as A Single Man.

George's speech is much longer and more relevant in Isherwood's book. And the students did not quite pay attention to it. Moreover, the second part of the speech presented in the movie is Tom Ford's imagined peroration about minorities. For those who want to go deeper in this speech, they will find out more about the title of Huxley's book, After many a summer dies the swan. Of course, this does not make Tom Ford's movie not worth of attention and apreciation.
