My 12-year-old is slightly jealous that when you lost one leg you gained 3. 😂 She understands that it’s more inconvenient to carry them around, but she’s still jealous. So, even on your hard days, I hope you can find the joy in having 4 legs when the rest of us only have 2. (She reviewed this before I commented and it meets her approval.)

Great thinking, Joe! It’s nice to see someone else with a disability thinking outside of the box when it comes to our range of motion. We find ways around our problems and it’s simply fun to have your brain work that way it makes us better problem solvers :DThank you for being awesome and sharing your ups and downs on your journey it means a lot to me.

As a rower, I’m really glad you found a way to enjoy the sport! It’s a great workout that uses all your body’s muscle groups. (And as you said, it’s low impact) be sure to post videos if you ever try it on the water!

I'm super happy to hear this - I love rowing - I can make it as easy or as heart pounding as you can get and even something in between. I find it makes the child in me happy the same way teeter totters and swings did as a kid. I can't walk far, but I can row!

I use a rower at the gym, and found exactly the same thing, the cut-down back of my cycling leg also allows better range of motion for rowing. Also using the foot-straps to hold my leg in place is very useful, prevents it from flying off the foot-pad at full extension.

Would you use a bikeing leg for martial arts? Because you nead the range of motion to kick? Or would you not use any prosthetic for the safety of others? Or just it flying off.

I’m curious, were you doing the actual boat rowing? I just remember there being a shitload of criteria outside of an individual‘s control (height range, weight range, etc.) to qualify for the rowing team at the first university I attended and wondering how the heck anyone would even start in the sport to begin with. Granted, it wasn’t the kind of school where you just picked up a sport, if you were rowing (running/playing/etc.) there you almost certainly had a scholarship to be doing so.

Is rowing safe for people with bad knees?
@cirrus.floccus
@cirrus.floccus Жыл бұрын
Probably depends on what's wrong with your knee. I have knee pain and when I first visited the doctor they told me to just bike everywhere, it's low impact. I tried and it was very painful... turns out I had injured a part of the knee that is actually heavily involved in both stretching and bending the knee. Rowing looks similar, so I'd assume one would just have to ask their doctor. Or try, of course. If you don't overdo it, most times you won't make anything worse longterm, maybe just be in more pain for 1-2 days. But again, that depends on what's wrong exactly.
