@@StefanConstantinDumitrache What? This price is roughly what you'd expect for a device this capable. Valve's pricing is the miracle (subsidied by Steam). Nobody else could match their prices even if they wanted to.

@@danielalorbi exactly. Valve is literally selling the devices at cost or a loss in order to gain Market share. No other company can do this because they don't have other revenue streams with which to subsidize devices. Also valve makes money through Steam which they know the majority of customers will use to play games through. Therefore they are basically guaranteed to make money on the device after purchase through the store and software sales. That is not the case for other device manufacturers

@@liesandy291 In fairness to them, unless they're going to put up a console that can play PS4/5 games at a reasonable frame rate and quality for a reasonable price, I don't think they're wrong. They have data from their PSP and Vita days, if they say it's not economically viable for whatever reason (global recession, population that buys consoles would rather not buy an additional companion device, etc.) then I'm inclined to believe them.

I still use Windows for my htpc just due to the software compatibility with everything I want to do. In order for steamos to seriously take foot in the home theater PC market they must have a good media engine setup as well similar to Kodi

One solution for the slow motion fighting games (if you don't mind screen tearing) is to disable VSync in-game if possible. I ended up doing this with Sonic Mania, because there's certain portions of the game that go crazy with flashing effects, and lowering the framerate to 40Hz helps out a little bit with that. Of course, doing that would kind of negate why you'd cap the framerate anyways.

I really can't get over how much I'm liking SteamOS 3! Setting up ROMs with RetroArch and using the new Steam Deck UI as the primary launcher is leading to a very smooth experience. Valve really do need to get the OS out on release officially ASAP. We need to see more devices come with this preinstalled as standard.

Basically you can add multiple shortcuts to RA as a non Steam Game to Steam and use the shortcut options to tell RA which core and ROM you want to load. If you have loads of ROMs EmuDeck will automate the process for you.

I was planning to get the Steam Deck but depending on the cost, this might be a better option for me. I would really love a handheld that can emulate up to Dreamcast and PSP level and play older PC games. The majority of the games I would play on this I would use the d-pad, so even the control layout works for me.

@agapp11able The steam game compatibility can be a nightmare and not as good as windows, (which is all games on windows) getting bluetooth controllers to work is far easier on windows, the whole act of just playing games they run better on windows. not to mention a lot of developers don't bother with a linux version of the game simply because it costs them hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it and linux is a tiny comunity compared to the windows pc market. I'm all for linux, I love me some batocera okay but don't just pretend it's up to snuff with windows for gaming cause it's just not. just because some games you played play gret doesn't mean there aren't glaring issues.

@agapp11able you're not really listening to what I'm saying. I didn't say that there aren't games that work with Linux I'm saying there is a very high amount of games that are incompatible with Linux and it'll only take you a Google search to find that out for yourself. Even the steam deck which runs on their version of Linux isn't compatible with a lot of steam games. I also never said that Bluetooth controllers don't work, but there are some compatibility problems with some controllers, and it is easier to set up on windows. Also you need to consider that the barrier for entry with Linux is quite high and that you probably have a decent knowledge of which build to use, most people don't. Most people just want to boot their PC and play some games they don't wanna spend hours reading forums so they can figure out what the best distro is to play the games they want to play. Windows is just more convenient for gaming and seems to be the most important thing for a lot of people. People just wanna play games man not everyone is a computer nerd.

Hoping you could also add Darkest Dungeon, Slay the Spire, and XCOM 2 to your tests (yeah I know those have Switch versions, but I play them with mods, so I always thought those are the kind of games that'd be perfect for low-budget handheld pc's). XCOM 2 in particular, has pretty long load times in Switch, so I'm wondering if the SSD in the Win600 will help with that.

Valve is loosing money on hardware but their goal is to make the money back in steam sales. AYN and Aya are really pushing the limits on how cheap they can make these things and still make profit.

nah... anything OVER 200 is a RIPOFF.... I wouldn't go near it for more than 200... and I'm even inclined to say 175 because of the audio issues on Proton... that's happening because the CPU isn't fast enough (as least I think... or it could be that the buffer is too small... in that case it is ALSO because the CPU is not fast enough....) with that CPU as dinky as it is I would THINK they were aiming for the 100 range.... this is a VERY confusing products... Hey @ETA PRIME I'm not sure if this is the issue here as well, but I believe I saw another video about the same device where they found out that the stuttering audio is (at least in part) due to the wifi chip interfering with the speakers. (It might have been on Taki Udons channel.) So maybe try if the problem persists when you play with headphones plugged in.

The audio sounds like a pulseaudio issue, try running it with env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 for some it helps. There are also other things that can be done.

Well it has the same resolution screen as the ionio basically. I did the right thing with having a lower resolution and valve copied them. There are some newer models from other companies with high resolution screens... The gpd win3 also has a lower resolution screen but the honest to God reality with that device is that Intel is just not suitable for any mobile gaming. It is barely suitable for laptops.

@@Girvo747 yea oxp always had too high res of a screen. The Aya air is 1080p but oled. Based on having the OG Aya Neo; I'd say the 1080p screen can be used for older games and emulation. Since the 5560u is not going to have much more power than the 4500u you in terms of graphics; it definitely will not be good for most modern or even semi modern PC games unless they are just indie titles.

Do you get the same audio stuttering on your real Steam deck using the same version of Proton? If not then I don't think it is really a Proton issue, just the processor not being able to feed the sound chip quickly enough when it's being taxed with other things going on.

This little handelds will benefit a lot a freesync display. With my rx550 every game running 35+ fps is buttery smooth. And, obviously, there's no need to lock framerate. But hey, i think this Anbernic will fits my needs: emulation of ps1/ps2, gc and wii. (Gba of course). Some indie games and older titles like Disgaea2. I like the possibility to "upgrade" easily. The price will be decisive in the choice between this and "something" with a mendocino platform.

@@main_tak_becus6689 I played a couple of hours Disgaea2 (native linux port) on a my old linux laptop with an amd e-6110 apu. It was fully playable 30+ fps @1366x768 (native resolution). I played a "ton" of jrpgs from legend of heroes trails in the sky (2D) to cold steel (full 3D). (Thanks Wine and proton) Adventure games like "black mirror" saga. Tactital rpgs like shadowrun. Played a lot of psx games: Dino crisis, ffvii, suikoden, metal gear without issues. This athlon packs 10 time the power of my old basic laptop so i think it will be good for me. If it costs around 200€ it is a no-brainer for me. I'll buy instantly. I'll slam a 3200mhz stick of ram and i'll be good. Finger crossed!

AMD apu only running in single channel? You should compare a similar system in dual channel to see how much performance is lost. I think there are a lot of laptops with a athlon 3050

You mention that the max ram supported is 16gb, is that because its the highest you have tested or is something limiting it from going higher than 16? Was curious as I've seen 32GB DDR4 SO-DIMM so wanted to check b4 I go too crazy with upgrades :P Thanks!

Most gaming won't utilize all 32GB of RAM. Also, although the 3050e supports 32GB RAM, that is dual channel, meaning that I think (can't find any supporting evidence for this) that the largest stick supported is 16GB.

Is the 16 gig upgrade dual channel or is it just a single 16 gig DIMM? It's pretty clear that the Steam Deck's "secret sauce" is the large amount of fast, dual-channel RAM.

You can actually upgrade the ram to 32gb and can dedicate 8gb to video in the settings set the wattage to 18 or 20w boost the clock speeds and fan speeds it'll run a lot better

But realistically this will probably not happen. All of the x86 handhelds have been super expensive in the past. And this one has a decent amount of power. That’s why I’d expect it to be pretty expensive as well. I think it will have a really hard time competing against the Steam Deck.

@@lifehacker123 Yeah they will try to sell it for over $250 I bet... it won't sell well in the West. Steam Deck is just superior value/performance to pretty much all Chinese handhelds that cost more then $100 right now.
