There's one thing we didn't mention in the video that is important in selecting the right rivet: the diameter. The diameter of a rivet will be dependant on your application so it can vary wildly from application to application. This also affects the drill size for your hole since that is dependant on the rivet diameter. If you are unsure what diameter rivet to use for your application, please consult an engineer to assist you.

Can I use this tool to remove the rivets as well?
@amanofmanyparts91203 жыл бұрын
@@damiancardenas6003 Not really. The most practical way to remove a rivet is to drill out the centre with the same size (or *one* size smaller) bit that you used to drill the original hole. You'll usually find that the bit will self centre and make drilling easier.

I am learning all about ‘pop rivets’ [which I think are brilliant BTW] + here... I see that they have also been used as ‘mini swords’! I never knew what these ‘things’ were (my father was handy so I saw these lying around when I was a kid) until my husband said he was going to repair something with ‘rivets’... and I said “What? You can ‘rivet’?” Then I went down the ‘rivet rabbit hole’. I am learning so much about these little gems. 😌

Plus I'm going to visit your website, and then I'll have a reference for measuring my rivets. I'm also going to watch the videos in your description. How do I measure the tiny hole size ? I do not have caliper that small. Not that thick. Rectangle on side type can. Shape keeps it strong.

5:45-beautiful. So what happened next at 5:54? Why didn't the inside of the rivet flatten against the plate as is the previous example, but instead is sticking out, hardly flattened at all? What caused this? The rivet was too long?
@AlbanyCountyFasteners3 жыл бұрын
That is a closed end rivet. It doesn't flatten the same way as open end rivets. In this application, it was a little too long for fastening to this piece of steel.

@nelsondog100 Жыл бұрын
I have two rivet guns, one about 20 years old that has seen very minimal use (less than 50 rivets) and one I just bought last month. I have the same problem with both of them. Rarely do I get a good clean break on the mandrel. Most times the mandrel will break off at the mid-way point and gets stuck inside the gun. I have to disassemble the gun to remove the other half of the mandrel. The rivets I use are clean, correctly sized and straight. Trust me when I say it’s very frustrating trying to do anything with these tools because they keep jamming up. Grrrr! Any thoughts anyone?
