A 22 Minute Breath of the Wild Speedrun Explained

This is NOT a valid speedrun! But it's a good indication of how fast the current strats can go when taken to their limit. I figured it had been a while since I last attempted to make an any% explained video (which had bad audio issues) so I wanted to redo it with a fully commentated run. And since I lowered my sum of best to under 23 minutes I figured this would be a great way of doing that while keeping the footage fresh. Story time: My first time doing the final fight, I did so by accident while exploring the castle, and I had to fight thunderblight without Urbosa giving me directions. This resulted in me never figuring out that you're supposed to use magnesis on the metal poles to stun the blight and punish, so instead I'd climb the nearby stairway and do a jumping attack to break the shield, to then shoot it with arrows until the shield came back. I repeated this til the blight died, which is something I believe could not be done in the Divine beast arena, as the terrain is different By the same coin, I'd bet that the same goes for fireblight, in that you could use bomb arrows at the castle fight, and not at the Divine beast fight, to make it drop the shield.

Player 5 reminds me so much of GreenSuigi in the Super Mario 64 speedrunning community, both truly are the Goats of speedrunning their respective Nintendo game. 2:03 why is that the case when you don’t get the cutscene and why’s it 5:15 but when you get the tower it’s 11? I don’t get how time do day gets stuck

They want certain cutscenes to play at specific times of day so they just lock time of day until you've watched those cutscenes (you wouldn't want your first look across Hyrule to be at night time or cloudy). I don't remember exactly how it works, but I think the tower is also tied to the start of the time of day cycle so maybe it's also required to play the cutscene at a specific time.

Yeah it works for a casual playthrough too, although it locks you out of some time of day based quests. You can always go back to the opening archway to play the cutscene and reactivate time though.

Also scheduled blood moons won't happen regularly, so you can only get limited resources (unless you somehow manage trigger a panic one, which is very hard and inconsistent in BotW). It's possible to clip into SoR without triggering the cutscene though, so you can still complete DLC2 without having to start time of day.

Quick question, why do you have to shield clip twice (once to get inside, another one to get into the portal) on Bombs and Mag but only once on Stasis? Like, why can't you crouch into the portal on Bombs and Mag?

The elevator is higher off the ground for bombs and magnesis compared to stasis.

The closest thing we have to a TAS for BotW any% right now is the best theoretical time which is a heavily spliced video using all the fastest known strats. You can look it up to see the crazy things that can be done, but I think v2 was a 21:44 so it would make a huge difference.

There is no full game TAS for botw, the closest we have is the Best Theoretical Time which is a heavily spliced together run that does all the fastest known stats that are often too difficult or inconsistent to do in a real run. Look up the botw btt v2 if you want to see what it looks like, it's a 21:44 iirc
