I realize that takes a little bit of the mystery out of the final product, but to hear that analysis of how one improves, what one looks for... well, that's absolutely golden. That’s awesome. Rostropovich, I bet you already know, had commissioned an incredible amount of pieces for the cello, as well as being a legendary performer. Casals in his own regard brought the Bach cello suites into standard cello repertoire & introduced phrasing and more abstract ways of interpreting cello music. Rostropovich and Casals are both cellists that I have always and will always admire!

@@estherchaecello I wanted to be a professional cellist but my parents wanted to hear opinions from professional cellist and teachers from the conservatories. My private teacher arranged a sort of audition with then the late Bonnie Hampton and Ron Leonard. Prepared 2 big pieces, Saint Saens concerto, and Sammartini Sonata both complete. To make the long story short. Both cellist concluded that I’m above average cellist. Being a soloist is out of the question, and maybe get a orchestra job from a semi professional orchestra. So my parents said NO. Sometimes, the truth hurts but now I’m glad playing the cello on my own terms and enjoy it as a hobby. I hope you make it in the auditions and in teaching. Cheers!
