@Commonwealth Flipper: I am really in awe of you and some of the other content creators who have Ebay as their sole source of income. I work during the day, but list some evenings, on weekends, and occasionally on my days off. However, the fact that you source, film for two KZbin channels, edit, work on listings, package and ship, it seems incredibly overwhelming. I realize that you have a teamwork dynamic that makes for lighter work, but I know it’s still a lot. Anyhow, I don’t have the team, but I’m still working toward reaching my 250 monthly listing cap and I appreciate your hard work. Having others in the Ebay community sharing their experiences and strategies really does help we, the small sellers. Thank you and your family for your reselling insights.

I agree with you 100% on starting off selling what's around your house, and there's a whole essay on just that topic. That's the best way to test at a minimal cost what it's like to sell. Maybe you get into it and don't like it, but you've bought all that inventory? Then what happens? || Another point that's big with pre-buying is knowing trends in merchandise. Things come and go (mostly go) in and out of trend on eBay, and it's important to see where your inventory is on the latest sales trends so you don't become overstocked in potentially Dead inventory. Your Tupperware is a fine example, as is Corning Ware. Patterns or colors in those will come and go, and it's important to watch that. Also: keep up with what's happening in the Antiques market if that's your biz (it is mine.) Know what style is cycling in as another cycles out and price accordingly. If you do things based on characters (like superheroes, etc.) PLEASE know what new movies are coming out this year, AND when to get out of stuff. Example: I hope that by now the reader is not overstocked on Barbie stuff because that movie is trending out. Barbie is still big (if you have the right stuff) but no longer HUGE. || Finally, take advantage of Terapeak for long-tail sales that goes back 2 (?) years. If you have something like art or pricey antiques and collectibles that have less of a trend, research there is worth your time!

I bought things for a year and it took me that long to finally list and start selling. Now I’m going thru my “Treasure Pile” and finding out many items are not “treasure” and not worth listing. Yes money lost, but somethings are selling pretty good. If I could do it over I would not do it this way again. I find myself donating items because they’re not worth anything and I don’t want to be a hoarder 😂. The plus side is, when I do go thrifting now, what I purchase I list right away and the items I am buying now are better than the things I bought when I first started. I am more mindful of sell thru rates now too. I agree, get your feet wet first, start small and grow at a good pace for you as you’re learning the business.

The space issue is so true and such an important part of it! Not only does it make it extremely difficult to be efficient, but it also limits purchases if you don’t have a dedicated space. Some great points in your video for new sellers, Kevin. I've been a collector/reseller for over 20 years. One think I learned is to pay attention to details. A perfect example is a pattern of china made for Southern Pacific railroad. Prairie Mountain Wildflower has so many variations from the years it was made, some are worth more than others. The average picker (and I'm not being mean, here) won't know the difference from one piece to another. Variation matters. Paying attention to details is great advice for a reseller. My 2c worth. Have a great day everyone.

I saw a show you did a while back about under valuing some of the items we list. If it’s too low, some people won’t even look at it because they think somethings wrong with it. Well, I had lowered all of my prices to get rid of stuff before me moving into a smaller house. I’m not out any money because I’m still selling stuff from my parents estate. Lowering the prices didn’t do much good, I sold very little. But…Just this past weekend I spent hours researching prices, sell thru rates, correct weights/postage and adjusted everything in my store to the actual prices I should have used. Raised the prices on almost everything by quite a bit. I’ve sold more in the past two days then I have in the last month. Who knew underpricing could be bad?😂😂😂 Thanks for more great advice. ❤

I ended up having a local auction company come to have sold at auction soon just to get rid of it. Looking at my storage container now basically being empty is a lot better feeling and I can start over again if I choose to and I'll 100% start listing anything I purchase right away with a newfound discipline for not buying everything I see. let me tell you when they took it down the road it was a great feeling to get that weight off

I agree with the fact of not knowing what to buy initially is absolutely spot on but the bigger issue of buying before selling in my mind is what it really means to be a reseller. For many people buying is fun and selling is not. Sure the money coming in is good but to get there you don't just have buying. You also have cleaning, photos, listing, offers and then shipping. Even after that is complaints, returns and bookkeeping. It is simple but not easy. You need to start small, if not with what you have at home then with a limited amount of items - like a dozen. List them all before you buy more. See what goes into it. You may find you don't like some part of it that you HAVE to do and you may dislike it enough that you end up not wanting to be a reseller. Start small.

I love selling Tupperware. Last year I bought two full truck loads of vintage (mostly new old stock) Tupperware. I made my money back in less than two months so everything I sell after that (which I have sold a bunch) is all profit. I still have probably 8 totes full of mostly new Tupperware that I continue to list so I don’t flood the market with it. What I end up not selling I will either sell at a yard sale or I am going to have a booth in a vintage farmers market. Either way- it was a great buy for me and I still continue to buy Tupperware.

the learning curve when starting reselling is one of the most important things in my opinion, i've been doing this full time since the late 90's (used to be primarily flea markets) but my best advice is to not be afraid to make mistakes when starting out and never stop learning new niches , use your gut and make mistakes and take note of the mistakes , eventually you find your specific niche of items in your specific areas that you can find regularly, sell regularly, that has the least competition in your specific area and when you get that through making mistakes. Trust me, all the "wannabe's" are too scared to spend a buck!

I had a blast selling stuff from around the house when I started, we started by accident to begin with, and once we had ther account open we saw how easy it was to sell stuff. I've always loved thrifting and treasure hunting yardsales though, my mother always took me out bargain hunting with her as a kid...so for one, I already had a ton of thrift scores on hand that I 'really didn't need' lol, plus I've always loved thrifting. If some people watch a video of yours and think it'll be quick fun money, it can be, but it's more work than it is instant success and gratification, and if you don't already enjoy flea markets and thrifts you're probably not gonna suddenly start liking it haha.

I started wrong, at least kind of. I started out just in person sales on forums, craigslist and eventually FBMP. I mostly sold larger and more expensive, but would have additional things thrown in, or find screaming deals on large lots of smaller lower $ items, that weren't worth in person sales. And I would hoard them saying that I would do eBay "one day". That finally happened when I caught covid and was going stir crazy in the house, and decided that one day was right now! Yes, there were some bad buys in there, but luckily it already made my profit on the other things, so anything I'm getting now is recovery of sunk cost. But you're right, there's nothing like actually doing it to really hone your eye on what's actually worth something!

Man! If I made the same purchasing mistakes that I did in the beginning, I wouldn't have continued. Rites of passage - one item at a time, as you are learning. Free items are a great way to learn, especially shipping - shipping can suck up a profit like no other. I count energy and time as one of the most important decisions in purchasing. If I buy things that suck up energy and time, I lose - no matter what the profit is. I consider my energy as important as money when sourcing. Then of course, there are always exceptions - like a childhood memory, or an item that needs to be saved from a landfill.

I started with stuff my dad and grandparents bought before I was even born, or at least was still in diapers. It had appreciated a bit in the meantime. That said, this was in the days when you could still take paper checks. My advice to would-be resellers is STAY OFF OF YOUR PHONES. If you have to google it, leave it. Search results on your phone can be misleading until you know how to parse the results. Know what you're buying before you're out there buying it. Once you get your feet wet, research and learn. Besides, while you're on your phone, an experienced collector/seller is scooping anything good while you're using your thumbs. Save the research on your phone for when you're a Kevin, buying in quantity. PS to Kevin - I buy some Build-a-Bears to rehome them. Vermont bears too, when they turn up.

Would have to say I agree and disagree with you on the bulk buying before starting reselling. If a collector goes and buys a bunch of items for their collection and later decides that they would rather sell them then they can essentially learn buying and market strategies JUST from being a consumer. However, to agree with you, it doesn't exactly fit the normal "Start with a small amount of capital and grow with time". Starting with a death pile sounds awful, but I think if the consumer is disciplined in their own purchases they will in turn grab better items because they already have the market knowledge. Just no selling experience. Really interesting to hear people start that way, but looking back, my collections are what funded my reselling business. So TLDR, it depends on the person lol

I have been on eBay 19 years and I know how to look up items, check sold comps or using google lens but it is such a slow process. Just curious if you had a video discussing that learning curve and if not, would you consider it? Thanks

No. But my experience with eBay’s lens feature is much quicker than google bc you can get to the actual sold prices

first time buyers list items for big $$ and the shipping is ridiculous they do not do their research on shipping.

The problem is you are selling these things because you are a you tuber. Regular ebayers probably wouldn’t sell these ( fairy)

Despite its appearance, being a KZbinr is not easy. Aside from the countless hours of videography, you need to have a very thick skin because you are under scrutiny/attack almost daily.

I don’t believe, if you are sourcing though garage sales or estate sales only and you don’t have a you tube channel generating addition income that you can be a full time reseller.

I love this comment because they think KZbinrs do it because it’s a legitimate strategy to resell. Two points, first is if it was that simple then everybody would be having success by doing it and second is that every single KZbin reseller could not make it off of their viewer sales alone.

Literally proved the poor lpoint he made in the video

This is true of some of these items but the truth is I’ve been selling these things for 22 years long before KZbin and the vast majority do not sell to viewers or would sell eventually to non viewers.

like you get a youtube check quit acting like your the voice of reseller's. You have subbs so just having that you have a whole stable to sell to. Some people actually only buy from you to get a shout out.
@commonwealthflipper9 ай бұрын
Yes. I am well aware of all these things. What would you have me do? Quit selling? Quit KZbin? Or both. Or maybe I should just cancel every viewer sale?

Lol dude is obviously putting in the hours- if he didn't spend so much time making KZbin content i bet his eBay store could be even better and make more money..

@@ResellingScores im betting his KZbin money is right there with or if not more than his reselling revenue. He has what? 4 channels. So just by him making his 2nd channel he is basically saying it's just as profitable as reselling. Im not questioning whether he works hard or not.

@@commonwealthflipper no you don't gotta do nothing im simply pointing at facts. You are not a regular reseller
