I have had our eBay account since 1998 but didn't get serious till 2019 with listing older family members' estates (hoarders). But, I've been in retail sales a long time with another business and saw it first hand in that business.

Long time watcher, first comment love the channel ! Being a Canadian seller shipping is really hard. Not only do we live in the second largest country in the world our shipping rates are ridiculous. I still make sales to the U.S. but I have to sell at a greater discount to compete. When setting up the pricing I have to make my item cheap enough for a U.S. buyer to purchase, which is really hard. I love all these content creators in the U.S. ,but since the common lad quit selling there are no Canadian content creators that help Canadian sellers like the common wealth picker. Its funny when I see American sellers complain about shipping prices....come north of the border and see how much we pay, you will never complain again lol. HAPPY EASTER TO ALL MY CANADIAN SELLERS 😎

8:58 Kevin i have to agree here if you list stuff to cheap buyers will think twice about buying from you well the Majority of buyers will maybe the minority that just want the cheapest price and don't care but the majority will say wait one second for that price its to good to be true it probably is and will think there is some UNDISCLOSED problem or flaw with the item and why i steer clear of the race to the bottom i always am in the middle or at the top with pricing (with best offer on all my items with thresholds so if offers come in below the minimum i'm willing to accept it is automatically declined)
@bennystratton77348 ай бұрын
btw also tweaking a listing adjusting prices and pictures and shipping and any other things within the listing will WAKE Up the listing in the algorithm so this could be why she is now having more sales she woke up those STALE listings that the algorithm was ignoring ebay even tells sellers this is what is needed for items over 90 days 90 days or older the algorithm considers them stale items and they will get buried or even ignored (meaning algorithm wont even pull them up in searches when buyers search items

Flat rate shipping has always been the smart way to go with lower weight items. There are some variables need be calculated to establish the flat rate for weight tiers aka 1 LB and under, 1-2 etc and find the median cost in the tier. Its nice as eBay now has the shipping profiles which makes changes and organizing them a literal breeze. I also track it and I basically break even, I'm on the east coast and make a few dollars on most things east coast and loose a few to the west coast. Balances right out and is a great time saver when listing not needing waste time weighing everything. Consumers understand shipping expense is just lost money and in speaking of shipping so many retailers now offer free or free to store shipping. Its getting to a point where its almost expectation but sellers dont understand free shipping. They'll up the price, claim free shipping when its not free at all. Free means free, no additional expense yet most sellers think that say this Kuerig machine at Walmart for $99 or online for $99 w free ship to home that Walmart is building it into the price. They are not, they are selling it at MSRP, Keurig does not allow them to charge more as its all consigned merch under terms of consignment. Walmart cant even run it as a special at $79 without arrangements being made w/ the authorized distributorship or Keurig directly. Free shipping is a an immediate line item write off. So if shipping was $20 that $99 Keurig is now a $79 reported sale w/ the immediate line item write off, its promotional.

Thanks for the great response. I will admit, most of what I originally listed I had made rookie mistakes, as we all do. I was lucky, USPS had just started Ground Advantage when I first started so I do list everything Calculated shipping GA but if I see Priority Mail is cheaper when I print the label, I’ll send it PM. Most of the items I undervalued were jewelry pieces from the 1940’s that belonged to my Grandmother. And vintage glass my mother spent years collecting. My mistake was rushing to get it listed to get it out of the house and not doing the proper research first. And as a new seller, I really didn’t know how to do the research until I started watching reseller videos on YT, like yours. My BIGGEST mistake was estimated item weights because I didn’t have a scale when I first started. So if anyone can learn from my mistakes….that’s a big one. Get a scale and a ruler, and use them before you list anything. 😂 Again, thanks for your helpful videos. Watching them is how I learn what works and what doesn’t for me. ❤ And yes… I’m a she. My Granddaughter thought that was funny.😂 Wishing you and your family a blessed Easter.✝️

I appreciated your topic today especially about revisiting listing center been up for a long time. One of the things that has really helped me with the shipping cost. Is I sell silverware and when I have a set of silverware I use the US padded flat rate envelope, which silverware fits in beautifully Put a little cushion around it and it’s only the buyer only has to pay $10.60 no matter where they live. I have also used the legal USPS flat rate envelope for jeans that are smaller sizes 32s and under again it can go all the way to the West Coast for that same flat rate. Thank you for all the advice. I kind of learn on how to figure out the sell through rate, but I will, thank you for amazing grace at the end of this podcast. I love that song God bless you and your family.

But recently I shifted the main photo to a different view plus lowered the price, and it sold next day, so who knows? I fool around with listings a lot because I have down time at work. Mercari is now offering no fee selling, so I might start cross listing. Or at least listing some things on mercari. I don’t really like their platform of payment, though. It reminds me of scrip payment.

So much of my inventory over the years has been media. For a long time I would mostly ship stuff first class because I was in hindsight trying to emulate the boutique movie companies I buy from. Even though it bit me in the ass I continued that until ground advantage hit. I had to go through all my listings and it was a bitch but it kicked my store in gear. As far as price being to low I worked for a company that catered to high end clients and your average person. The store manager and myself would try to spur sales with the average and low end customers with sales. The rich people would always ask what is wrong with this stuff because it should cost more. My bosses at that job were like that too a certain extent and I get it to a point but I don’t understand wanting to get ripped off.

I'll never understand under pricing and im new to selling on eBay but like Kevin said it's prob not a good idea. Anyhoo, all my life (im 57) I've been in the barrel horse business, training, selling and running barrels , and one time for instance, I had a really nice barrel horse for sale but he was crippled a little bit in one front foot. It didn't bother him if I kept shoes on him and didn't ride hard, like moving cattle or run barrels on him much, but if i gave him a little bit of bute he was fine. He would've been a great barrel horse for a little kid just learning to ride, just go kind of slow and easy, and little kids are light weight and thats how I advertised him and was only asking $1500 for him. A month went by & I couldn't even get anyone to try him so i took him off the market. The next spring I advertised him with what was wrong with him for $5000 and he sold in 2 weeks! Heck all winter i tried to give him away to a forever home or I'd take him back when they were finished using him, but nobody would even take him for free!! Barrel horse people are definitely a different breed, including myself!❤

I’ve always believed in pricing my items a little higher than others. Several reasons… 1. I clean all the items, ensure in good shape, and take number of pictures. 2. You can always lower the price later. And you can take offers and accept lower offers automatically. 3. You pay for good stuff. Nothing is “free” and most buyers do question items that are too cheap in a store. I’ve just started getting back into reselling more and only have about 40 items in my store. But going back through them all right now and adjusting shipping to flat rate. Thanks again for all you share.

100% truth i do the same things its worked for me over 2 decades doing full time reselling on multiple platforms any platform that has best offer option i'm always in the median or at the top price wise and allow offers to give the buyer the perception that they are controlling the price but since im pricing it up (more then what i really want) in the end im 99.9% of the time making what i really wanted to to start with or a bit more and im a firm believer if its not broken don't fix it i have always been a believer in that let amazon sellers play the race to the bottom game. over 25 years reselling full time what i have noticed is the Majority of buyers wont hesitate to buy and item for more then what it had previously sold for but will hesitate to buy an item for Less then what it sold for most do really think that if its to cheap then there is something wrong or some flaw that is undisclosed
