Very nice! Instead of adjusting the rear thrusters manually, you could put sensors and controllers, such that the rear thrusters are splayed out to reduce the lift, then when a crate is detected, they are tilted down. 2 thrusters and stacked bearings could support one crate in either position. It would be even less efficient, but oh well.

The 2 yaw thrusters can be replaced with a single one on a bearing, yaw left or right the thruster swivels left or right, when not in use it points backwards so you can use it as a forward thruster.

Recently downloaded a Mi-24 Hind from the workshop then modified it so the lean controls are WASD and the tail rotor spin is button-controlled. Haven't flown many helis in SM I will admit, but in my experience it's easily the best. Haven't built any helis myself yet, but this has given me some experience and courage to try building an Mi-26.

You should add a section on the side with a spud turret or make like different pieces you can switch out in the crate spot such as storage or craft bot or collection systems or more seats or more fuel for exploring

I flew a helicopter simulation once with a realistic cockpit. It was so complicated. I considered it a win just to be able to land in a football field sized area without crashing.

Ideas... haha I was building a 'cargo barge' to transport vehicles to the packing stations. My boyfriend and I set up base and farm at the big maze which is all off road in my map so ive been thinking of ways to go around the forests and hills easier.

Should have put 4 thrusters on the back. You could then have 2 for when you aren't carrying crates, then another 2 which you can activate when you are, which would mean you don't need to turn their strength up and down all the time.

I think it would be much more interesting, and practical, to grab a jumbo fuel container instead of fruit/veg crates. A massive container full of fuel you could grab/drop at any oil pump would be practical for long flights and look super cool!

I really wish we'd have proper wing blocks and aerodynamics simulation so we could build actual helicopters (and planes too, I guess), without messing with thrusters. I know there are few mods for this, but they are creative-only AFAIK. //edit: Also removing world's "ceiling" would be nice too so that you won't bonk your aircraft against air and die.

Consider using your steam client to hook up a Joystick or Game Controller. I'm not gonna say the boys at Steam made it simple and intuitive, but it's doable and leaves you with a whole lot better control over a flying machine.

in scrap mechanic there is only one type of flight: VTOL, you can technically make a plane, but it relies on the thrust for all the lift, not wings. That's why flying vehicles are so bad in SM, you need to use thrusters to stay in the air, rather than wings which produce lift when moving forward.

To make an alternation to the helicopter; change it to a sky crane where it has almost no body and a lot of space for cargo

Sadly it is mostly for looks and over half the weight could be stripped off. I would have done 3 lift and one on the front two in the back, then have a single one in back that is thrust and steering. Put the thruster above the center of gravity and the back one between the two lift thrusters in the back. Maybe even put a grab claw to lift a farmer of packing crate. I might even make the thruster in back pivot up and down to control lift. Maybe I will try and make one right now... Update... I am running 3 thrusters, a gas tank, a seat, a button for lifting thrusters, a button for the forward/turn thruster, and a light. I made the body out of card board. Sadly level 1 thrusters are not strong enough to lift it and upgrading each is 10 upgrade kits... and it was 10 upgrade kits to build each thruster. I need to do some grinding for resource kits before I can fly. I guess the more upgraded the more efficient they will be, but I am hoping just one upgrade will be enough to lift it. They need to make the thrusters themselves much lighter. 4 thrusters is so heavy.

I think that the thrusters should use a different type of fuel, possibly with a different fuel canister. Like rocket fuel. And even though it may have higher cost to make it, but it lasts longer compared to the regular fuel.

If you think about it,the thruster is a liquid fuel rocket, because it doesn't have an intake,and does not produce torque,so it would make sense to use rocket fuel

I underestimated you 😌 I have built a bigger, 6 blade helicopter that lift 4 crates. It can take off, but isnt stable at all and crashes in a few seconds. Back to the drawing board.

Amazing Helicopter! Not been brave enough to attempt a flyer yet but will have to very soon. I wonder, I know you didn't want to add more thrusters so this is merely a thought... If you added two more to the back end that were hooked up to a sensor, the sensor being set up to sense if you were carrying crates or not, would these additional thrusters give enough lift? The thought being that you wouldn't need to keep adjusting the rest thruster power?

my flyer has a 6 barrel B İ G minigun but the point is: i built the flyer around the gun and the minigun shoots very very fast but it drains the whole ammunition in 10 seconds (nearly) but it can kill a boss in 2 seconds

Moonbo since you were complaining about efficiency problem with your helicopter this was something I learned from a Scrapman's video a while ago he did a test to save fuel with thrusterswhere he put one thruster on the pulsing timer circuit and the other one was just always on and the one with the pulsing timer circuit save twice as much fuel but yet I failed to understand why he did not incorporate that in his flying machine yet?
