I used to play in the school and Sunday league teams with a kid like Peter Thompson. He could leave people for dead, turn them inside out, leave them in a heap on the floor, or swinging wildly at a ball that was already long gone...but most of time he got so carried away with dribbling, he never got round to crossing or passing and just kept dribbling until somebody finally got the ball off him. I played my first 5 - aside game for about 20 years a few year ago, and there was a guy on my team doing just the same in front of the box. In the end I lost patience, nicked the ball off him and smashed it into the net with my left foot, just to end the agony!

15:48 Gerry Byrne was a born WARRIOR. Played most of the Cup final with a broken collar bone AND helped setup the winner. We've been so fortunate down the years to have so many talented players but most importantly, COMITTED players like Byrne. The kind of players who'd run through brick walls for the team.

16:02 Jim Furnell in goal for Arsenal. He'd been our Number 1 previously until Tommy Lawrence displaced him when he had a broken finger. Jim was a decent GK, but Tommy was as tenacious as they come and just wouldn't give up the jersey, so Jim was moved on to Arsenal. He was a hell of goalie, was Tommy.

Match of the Day was first shown on BBC 2, .most people then in1964 only had two stations BBC 1 and ITV. They were unable to watch it.
