I think the biggest distinction to be made between a Swiftie and the type of fan of Taylor Swift that you are, Jason, is the sense of ownership. Swifties tend to do a lot more projection and have a lot more expectations about Swift. The people who treat Taylor less like a favorite artist and more like a long distance best friend, that's the Swiftie. Her music is great, her public persona is really exceptional, her performances are top notch, and I think her devotion to the fans is admirable. But that doesn't make her anyone's friend or confidante.

I agree with everything you said about some Swifties, but I have been a Swiftie for 17 years and have many family and friends who are also Swifties but we do not judge Taylor's dating or personal life. We care for her deeply and want her to be happy but we don't write ugly comments about her or do tik toks about her being so horrible for dating a certain someone. We believe in her and trust that she knows what's right for herself, it's none of her fan's business. But we are definitely Swifties. We listen to her every day, go to every concert, and her music means everything to us. The fans you're talking about are not well. They think Taylor belongs to them and she has to run her life a certain way or they act like children complaining and threatening to stop listening to her. We need a new name for them and it wouldn't be flattering! I understand what your saying though but please know that all Swifties are not alike, I think the majority of us know to not cross certain lines when it comes to celebrities, entertainers, singers, etc.

"Stained glass windows in my mind" packs a lot of meaning into a single line: -that stuff about how John Mayer used to live in an abandoned church when he dated her -Stained glass windows are broken but beautiful. They're not solid glass. They'll never be whole again. That doesn't devalue them--in fact, that's the appeal of them. But maybe to some it's a shame that the glass had to be broken and stained at all. -Stained glass windows tend to show pictures, often of Bible stories or Biblical figures in churches. I picture this line as the stained glass windows in Taylor's mind depicting memories of her relationship. They hold her memories. They feel as Significant(TM) and Impactful(TM) as Bible stories. -bolsters the religious/faith theme throughout the song because I associate stained glass windows with churches -stained glass = colors = light gets colored as it shines through the window = nothing is lit "properly," but is colored by the pictures; if they're pictures of the memories, then the memories are coloring her mind (emotional state? outlook? decision-making? personality? values?)

The "stained glass windows in my mind" line can be Interpreted in a lot of ways. I kind of see it as she is looking back on the relationship and remembering what happened. A stained glass window is made up of a bunch of broken pieces and put back together to make something beautiful. Taylor had to put back together her broken heart to see clearly and realize what lessons it had taught her. I also should note that john mayor was living in an old church when they were dating.

I hard core relate to would’ve could’ve should’ve bc I dated someone older. I feel like it’s really deeper than how you interpreted. Maybe you just need to experience it to truly understand it?? But I literally sob whenever that song plays especially the bridge. “I fight with you in my sleep” literally waking up crying from nightmares of them. “If clarity’s in death then why won’t this die” literally not being able to let it go no matter how much time passes because it killed me. “Give me back my girlhood it was mine first” dating an older man as a young girl really screws you up. They completely ruin your innocence and perception of love.
