Beautifuly crafted with interesting, differing, subject matter, excellent pictorial research and editing, slick narration and great background music tracks held at the correct levels. When I was about 13 or 14 in the early 70's, my mum worked with the wife of Ted Caveny, who was instrumental in the restoration of the peak forest canal, there's a plaque in his memory somewhere near the macc canal junction. As a result I did a little bit of work helping to dig out Marple locks and as a result, we were invited on the first test run from Marple to Godley and back, this would be 73 or early 74. It took all day and we got stuck in the cutting just after the aqueduct, they had to put a chain across the sides of the hull and wind it in with a screw device to reduce the width of the barge, it was an old working boat and we were all in the cargo space. But we made it, in later years it was my regular commute home from work in Dukinfield to poynton by mountain bike. Keep the vid's coming!!

As a Romiley lad born in the mid 50's 'the canal' between Romiley and Marple was playground of choice for myself and friends. We used to know every inch of the towpath, happy days! I remained in the Stockport area until 3 years ago when I moved to the south coast, near Brighton. Today's episode has brought back many happy memories of the care free childhood days of adventure on and around the canal, I'm sat here with a huge smile on my face and feeling the warmth of all those wonderful memories. Your vlogs are fantastic, so professional yet funny and informative along the way. Great work, long may it continue ... many thanks to you both.

Hi guys, myself and Jane discovered the channel about a month ago, and have thoroughly enjoyed lots of the vlogs. Although i have to confess we haven't watched them in order, but personally i find life is much more interesting this way. The cinema was fascinating and took me back to October 2016 when running demolition from what was the Clydebank Cinema. In the Second World War, it survived unscathed the Luftwaffe bombing it during the Clydebank Blitz, but in 2016 had to make way for one of those hideous timber kit block of flats. I took a very sombre picture from the cab of my truck whilst being loaded, and could only feel immensely sad thinking about all the wonder, laughter, and enjoyment tens of thousands of people must have had through the decades in the auditorium. I still have the picture on my phone to this day, if only i could post it on here. As ridiculous as it sounds, i am sure we speak for tens of thousands of viewers, in saying thank you. You both make us feel like family. Kindest regards...

Just discovered your channel and think its great, I have even got my wife watching you on Amazon Prime. Reminded me of cruising on the Grand Union and Coventry Canals back in the 1960's on my father little cabin cruiser, I think I can remember whole families still living on some of the working boats. Anyway we now live in Gloucestershire and very often walk along the Stroudwater and Sharpness Canal's, there are less hills for to bother our old bodies. Keep up the good work your historic notes and relaxing style are perfectly balanced and if you ever fancy visiting the Sharpness Canal its got plenty of history for you cover.

Nice touch with the curtains opening. I don't know how in hell these little places have stayed afloat (pardon the canal pun). There is an independent cinema that I frequent in Waterloo Ontario called the Princess but I don't know if he is in business anymore or not with all this covid rules. I think these types of theatres are hanging by a thread at the best of times and now of course, as Ontario goes into another 28 day lockdown, it may very well be the nail in the coffin for many of these small businesses. The Princess shows the films that that big box theatres won't show because they don't appeal to the masses. I will sure miss it if it gone. I love these little independent small cinemas. I hope they do well and I hope the locals go out of their way to support it and all small business. They must be hurting.

Another nailed presentation guys, absolutely! That piece on water sluices seems to hold even today with water well drillers, creating a discharge pond, setting up a temporary vee-sluice and calculating the flow with accuracy that is accepted. (Don't know how that works, but there you go, have witnessed.)

@MAdams8533 жыл бұрын
The v-notch forces the water to go over the weir at a constant speed, regardless of depth. This makes the volume of water calculatable by just reading the depth, as discharge (volume over time) is a function of depth and speed. Studied this at university, very ingenious and even though in modern times sensors and gauges are used as Colin says, a lot of those still rely on the science of old school hydrometrics and v-notch weirs.

That was superlative! It had everything: history, lovely people, culture, amazing camerawork and editing and a little bit of jeopardy too. Well done!

Though o love the cinematography I have also loved listening to these in the car - they make a lovely audio blog as well - obvs Collins radio voice is superb but Shaun’s little chirps in amd giggles really make it special.

You fine gentlemen are so good together. The scenery that you present is great and as a frequent visitor to England in the 70's It's like a trip back in time seeing the hills and small towns of England. Keep supporting each other and I wish you all the best.

@@FoxesAfloat Good for you. Most 'producers' these days only have a 1 year "communication" course under their belt... you have a portfolio.

The beautiful thing is, Colin, your favorite place was there before you were born, will be there after you are gone and will be there for you whenever you go there. Such places create happy places in our minds that we should dwell in and use the positive feelings to fight off the darkness of down moments.

Wonderful vlog! The cinema was so beautiful - I miss places like that, it would be an experience just to visit it, never mind watch a film there :) The gentleman playing at the end really added something special to the whole vlog - seeing you on the move a little, and having some facts and history about the places you were passing through helped to make it feel as though ‘normality’ (whatever that is) might be seeping back (even if there was a traffic cone wedged in a lock gate!) Hope the pizza was a good one and you enjoyed a well earned rest after all those locks ☺️🐾

As usual, I am totally entertained by Colin's guide through the canals. The stopover at the movie theater was marvelous. I only wish I had your ability to remember and speak like you do in your vlogs. I so do love the patter you share. Here's to the Silver Foxii!
