GUTS captured the messiness of transitioning from a teenager to adulthood so well. For me it’s an album that’s all about wanting to grow up but also deals with the fear and the uncomfortable reality that comes with growing up. Lacy makes me think of Heather. Not in the sound or anything, just that it's about that girl that's so perfect, the beauty standard, the one everyone admires. I know some people speculate that it's about Sabrina Carpenter or Gracie Abrams or Madison Beer etc. but I think it's about a type of woman, not one in particular. Or you could go down the path of thinking Olivia is in love with Lacy. I will always approve of the gay storyline lol

I think that one important thing about Get Him Back (and Olivia's music in general) is that, yeah, she talks about toxic relationships and feelings but the thing is... she's super self-aware, and that makes the whole difference. She makes fun of it, of herself, she lets clear it's wrong and bad but it's just the way she feels (and how MANY feel) and that's something she wants to talk about and tbh it's needed, ppl should know they have the right and aren't terrible for having toxic feelings, since the important part is knowing that they are and what you do with them, but you do have them and Olivia describes it perfectly and turns it into great songs to enjoy (and I say that as someone who never had those feelings, just as Ash said she hasn't either).

teenage dream hits so hard because this is me at my lowest. i graduated high school valedictorian with a full-ride scholarship to my university, but now at 24 i'm back to living with my mom (granted this is so i can afford graduate school without working full-time). it's hard seeing my peers who have graduated and found a stable "adult" job and not feel like i've fallen behind and that i've already given my best to the world. being back home especially made me have a lot of ruminating thoughts of wanting to go back and do things differently. usually i'm able to talk myself out of this spiral, but the fear that things won't get better (or that i won't get better) still lingers.

in the grudge she talks ab getting a phone call on a Friday in may and In the ‘Driving Home 2 U’ documentary, Olivia mentions a boy breaking up with her when she was on her way to Salt Lake City on May 8, 2020 (which was a Friday). This is the same day she started writing “1 step forward, 3 steps back”. It is likely about the same person. and there's just a lot of ties to sour like she hears his voice when she feels like she isn't enough relates to enough for you

This album is beautiful but Teenage Dream hit hard from the moment I heard it and hasn't left my mind since. When I turned 19 it was a couple months into the pandemic and I had no idea what my future would look like, what else could change, and how to move forward. It felt like everything had been put to a stop and I was falling behind everything. As my 22nd birthday approaches this really got to me, but it also leaves me a bit hopefully because now I can look back and see so much will change, and that it does still get better. Its such a good song, and the perfect final track.

i actually have a theory that vampire isn’t abt a person - it’s abt the entertainment industry. especially when you watch the music video and it’s like a romantic/wish fulfilment moment and then the light crashes down on her and it’s like being pulled out of the show and into the behind the scenes, to reality. like “bleeding me dry” - her talent, her love of her art “girls your age know better” i v much see how this sounds like *someone* but she started out in the industry REALLY YOUNG. that was almost definitely taken advantage of in some way. “the way you sold me for parts” - she’s not allowed to be a whole person, she has to be A Brand it’s similar to my thoughts abt all american bitch. not so much that it’s abt her contradictions but how she has to be EVERYTHING (the virgin and the whore yada yada)

I love that teenage dream is the closing track on an album that she wrote on her last year of being a teenager! she has literally stopped being the "teenage dream" and its so relatable because i feel like no matter who you are, you are made to feel like your teenage years are THE BEST YEARS OF YOUR LIFE so as soon as they're over (which is literally in a heartbeat which is the worst part) you automatically feel like theres nothig more for you out there, feeling like all oportunities are all of a sudden limited and you have no more room for mistakes because you can no longer start over which is SO far from the truth but i think that thats where the anxiety of being an adult comes from.

I love this album so much. It's giving 90s alternative/grunge and 2000s Pop/Punk. I'm obsessed. As a 40 year old I could relate to this album so much more (logical especially having been in one of THOSE relationships). Ugh it's just all so good!

As a 41 year old, it was so much fun hearing Avril, Alanis, maybe some Cranberries, etc. The rock rap in get him back was so much fun and part of me hopes Olivia makes a remix with some other artists.

Not to trauma dump but the grudge makes me cry without fail EVERY TIME I listen to it. Having had a rough time with some family issues I personally relate it to those and how I’ve felt following the drift from some people I used to be the absolute closest with and think the world of that essentially broke me. “The arguments that I’ve won against you in my head, in the shower, in the car and in the mirror before bed, yeah I’m so tough when I’m alone, and I make you feel so guilty and I fantasise about a time you’re a little f***in sorry and I know in my heart, hurt people hurt people, and we both drew blood but man those cuts were never equal!”

SOUR was THE album for me when I experienced some sadness a couple of years ago and GUTS is kinda the perfect follow up because i’m not in that space anymore - we love a pop rock queen x (although there’s no ‘favourite crime’ equivalent track for me on the new album which is a shame because that track fucked me UP lool)

Read a theory that she's gonna go from her purple theme to a red theme. Since purple represents innocence and youth (teenish vibes) whereas red is mature and sensual (young adult vibes). Would make sense since it seems that GUTS is SOUR but more mature. So maybe her next album will be her more "mature" Era

I know you said you wouldn't speculate but B*TCHH Lacy is 10000000% about Sabrina Carpenter. In the lyric videos for GUTS, every song has the GUTS rings BUT IN LACY the S ring is missing. Not just that, but every S is bolded in the lyric video. Every. Single. One. In interviews, Olivia mentioned that Lacy started off as a poem she wrote when she took a class at USC. If I remember correctly, that's around the time Sab/Josh were off and on so the way the lyrics talk about "I linger like perfume that you wear", "Bardot reincarnate", "Skin puff as pastries" IT JUST MAKES SENSE. and honeslty I'd feel that way towards her too. Admiration but intense jealosy. Anway, that's my theory. Thank you for always being my comfort channel!!

@kaydence1313

I think it's about Sabrina and Gracie because "I care, I care, I care" (Gracie and Olivia are friends) "Like ribbons in your hair" (Gracie always wears ribbons in her hair) "Bardot reincarnate" (Gracie has the gap between her teeth) Also lacy rhymes with Gracie. I think it might be inspired by both, Gracie makes a bit more sense tho because it feels like she's friends with the person she's singing about and she's friends with Gracie
