I am non native with a history of relationships with natives including a marriage. So that makes me an American. Let me be very clear. I use to think I knew what that meant. My family has been here for almost 400 years so I have no European feel, no sense of connection there. I understand the broken treaties. But my message is that the larger nation that all native nations are part of is now itself broken! My family helped build it from Mass. Bay to San Jose, CA. They believed in the constitution, adhered to the principles, fought in every war, shed blood and died here. But recent events have ripped up the constitution and betrayed the dream that was the American ideal. What is this country now? What am I part of? If some are above the law then the social contract means nothing...The rage and bitterness is growing, it is all around in tragic disgusting events. A stellar depiction of life for the indigenous people. I have to say I don't like the Native American title. The beautiful spirit of these people has been crushed and trampled. They should be proud of their heritage and not try to fit into what other people want them to be. I wish there was a way to help them and not have money sifted from donations. You call us Cree. Indians are from India. Europeans are not “white men” either. They are Europeans, and their skin is pink.
