@@boxingpedia true but the 90s added more of a story with Riddick’s splintering of the titles and the reunification in ‘99. Plus nearly everyone fought each other. It’s a hard pick for me with the golden and silver decades but… I suppose the 70s had ali Frazier and foreman which kinda beats Lewis Holyfield and Bowe. Especially as bowe never fought Lewis. Looking forward to the what if on the story. Btw, what’s next, the 60s timeline or the what if on the bowe-Lewis rivalry?

the real reason holyfield doesnt get respect are the losses to bowe and mercer and lewis, beating a washed up tyson doesnt help him that much. who did he actually beat at heavyweight? the doping doesnt help either i say all of this as someone who likes holyfield and rates him highly, but its also easy to see why he isnt respected and its not just tyson hype. holyfield had great style great chin great heart but was not a great hw.

Love your channel, big fan of your timelines great work! I have a question....u mention how Ruddock was thought to be the favorite if he faced either holyfield or Bowe after Lewis fight in 92. Since Lewis decimated Ruddock, would you say he would therefore likely have beaten either Bowe or Holyfield at that point?
@boxingpedia

@BryonyDarrow nah not in my mind b/c rock-paper-scissors doesn't tend to work in boxing. To the public at the time though, maybe so. Imo, Lewis loses to either Holyfield or Bowe in the early 90s. I always liked and rooted for Ray Mercer, Tommy Morrison, Donovan Razor Ruddock, and Michael Moorer, so it was hell watching Ray repeatedly punch Tommy while Tommy was out on the ropes, that ref ruined Tommy, then seeing Razor waved out on his feet PREMATIRELY, with no standing 8-count even, was torture, and Ray & Tommy never getting to fight Tyson & Moorer, and Razor never fighting Mercer, Bowe, Moorer & Forman were sorely missed for never happening! Razor never got another title shot even though, after the second loss to Tyson, Razor beat Page, Jackson, lost to Lewis by TKO in 2nd.rd., decisioned Wade, lost by TKO in the 6th to Tommy, then went on a TEN fight winning streak to win and retain the Canadian title til he retired in 2001, came back in 2015 with ywo wins, then lost ny KO and retired for good, at 40-6-1 (draw). Incidentally, I was glad Ray won the WBO, but it always looked to me like Mercer's ELBOW broke Damiani's nose, he missed the punch, I saw it that way then and still do, maybe it was an accidental miss, but it was also possibly even a purposeful forearm elbow foul under the guise of a missed uppercut, an act of desparation perhaps.

Really nice video series, but Lennox Lewis even listed as top 5 GOAT list is laughable. KTFO losses in his "prime" to McCall and Rahman. Nope. Such a good series until the gushing, unwarranted Lewis fanboy commentary took over. First eight or so hours were really enjoyable, though.

Lennox Lewis beat everyone in this era and avenged both his losses. Holyfield, Mercer, Golota, Tyson, Tucker, Briggs, Morrison, McCall are all on his resume. Bowe is more so responsible for them not fighting, hence no chance to beat him. Him being "chinny" is a myth debunked long ago, get with the times. With his attributes he could compete in and reign over any era. The facts don't care about your feelings. Seems like your unfounded bias and hate for Lewis ruined it for you. Thats your problem. Painfully casual take; good luck arguing Lennox is NOT a top 5 heavyweight.

Forman, Ali, Holmes, Louis, Johnson, Frazier and Marciano... all eclipse Lewis. And that's just off the top of my head. Don't need luck, just calling a fanboy when I see it. That's ok, I would do the same for Hagler in a Middleweight or Roy Jones in a super middleweight rundown. Furthermore, opinion - even yours - isn't fact. I don't dislike Lennox at all, just think it silly that anyone would have him in a top 5 of all time. His fights with Holyfield and Tyson were far past their primes, Morrison had AIDS when he fought him. And I don't think you will really contend that Mercer, Golata, McCall, or Tucker are really considered a legacy making group. Again, not major shade thrown at Lewis, just not a top 5 all time.

@doublea1620 If opinion isnt fact, stop spewing yours like it is. Practice what you preach. "...Lewis even listed as top 5 GOAT material is laughable" sounds pretty definitive and like a direct jab. Your list is debatable, goes back to your own opinion hypocrisy. By YOUR own logic, who did Holmes beat that was better than Holyfield? Norton would be your best choice and we can pick that a part all day. You said how Evander was past his best, so was Norton when he fought Larry. Then he got bested by a blown up light heavyweight TWICE. How bout Johnson? The same one that held up the color bar and didn’t fight McVey, Langford, and the type? Marciano? The one who conviently retired right when the division evolved and he didnt have to face Patterson, Liston, and the likes? Frazier who only beat an Ali that was post exile and never managed to beat him again, controversy or not? I'd like to clarify that I'm only using YOUR hypocrisy here and don't agree with any of these narratives, but you should since you're willing to agree as such against Lennox Lewis. The same could be done for Ali, Louis, and any fighter ever but you get the point by now. If you'd said what you said in your last comment, we wouldnt be talking about hypocrisy. "...just think its silly that anyone would have him in a top 5 of all time" is actually an ok statement b/c everyone has their opinion. Regarding the rest: Holyfield was not far past his prime? He'd just whiffed Tyson twice and avenged the Moorer loss emphatically. It's not Lennox's fault they didnt fight sooner, Lennox openly said how he was ready in 1998 but Evander wouldn't fight him yet. Evander was threatened to be stripped if he fought him in 1994 for unification too. Holyfield was formidable still and became champ again after in the 2000s (yes, even if it was against Ruiz). There is also zero grounds of legitimacy to use Tyson being past his best as an excuse when it was Tyson's fault they didnt fight as early as 1996. Tyson cherrypicked Holyfield and paid the price. No version of Morrison would've beaten Lewis and this is another indicator of your bias against Lennox. Mercer, Golota, McCall, and Tucker are very solid names. Lewis beat the VERY BEST version of Mercer and showed along the way that he was NOT chinny at that. Golota had just embarrassed and banished Riddick Bowe (who was coming off a brilliant 1995). McCall was never dropped in his career and it was revenge when Lewis secured that win. It's not Lewis's fault McCall was mentally damaged, he did his job and avenged his lone loss. Tucker was still very formidable and gave Mike Tyson all he could eat 6 years earlier. He didn't fall off until he was in the WBO hunt against the likes of Herbie Hide. Lewis dropped him and decisioned after b/c the man was that tough. How bout Razor Ruddock? Had just went to hell with Tyson and Lewis eviscerated him rather shockingly amidst belief Ruddock would win the 4 man tourney (Bowe, Holy, Lewis). Lennox has the who's who of the division on his resume, everyone except Bowe who he was NOT at fault for not fighting. So yes, it is objectively laughable to argue he is NOT top 5 (especially when you have Frazier and Foreman on that list when they were NOT the best of their era), much less in the talks. You don't become the best of your era to be left out of the GOAT talk and in the manner he did it. He beat every man he faced. And i don't need to address the casual argument of him being "chinny" before that even comes up too, long debunked. Everything you have can be thrown back at you and shows, in fact, how it is YOU who has the bias in effect here. I'm not a fanboy, YOU are just a hater who isnt willing to admit as much. And stop liking your own comments too.

Skin as thin as Lewis's chin. Get off your high horse. I disagree with your opinion and voiced a very legitimate opinion of my own. Never claimed it was fact. Simply responded to your comment about " good luck arguing Lennox is NOT a top 5 heavyweight." I did it with ease. Whether you agree with my assessment truly is of no import to me. Your undying fanboy stance, and unwillingness to realize not everyone shares your opinion, or that your opinion could be anything less than gospel speaks volumes. The fact that you respond with anger to people not sharing your opinion costs you a great deal of enjoyment of the sport and its history and reflects insecurity in your own belief. The debate over the GOAT or the Top 5 will continue regardless of your opinion. Also, McCall wasn't Lewis' lone loss. Rahman knocked him out, too. Yes, Lewis won the rematch. I stand by my assessment and disagree with your opinion. I don't think Lewis is as good as you do. I don't think he's top five of all time. I think he would lose to any of those I listed. If this hurts your feelings, that isn't my problem... but that is also the beauty of the argument and the history of the sport. I am not sure who you think you are to try to dictate to me which comments I like or don't. Much like your opinion, it will have little influence on my actions. Frankly though, I agree that I should reconsider my stance on Holmes, especially given his questionable decisions against several including Norton and getting beaten by Spinx... twice. ... and you DO realize I sat through the ENTIRETY of your series, right? ... all 10 hours of it... clearly it was unbearable. Why do you give a crap if I agree with you? Quit taking disagreement with your opinion as if you got smacked in the mouth. Go make the 00's or do the 60s and I'll hurt your feelings again after I have watched another 3 hours.
