I’m always on the lookout for cat-related travel destinations, and this adorable "house" for cats in Valencia, Spain did not disappoint! Located in Barrio del Carmen and designed in the classical Valencian style, the House of Cats acts as a throughway for the local street cats. I converted my barn into a cat house. Last count was 26 cats. Food gets pricy but worth it. They are great therapy for a retired disabled vet. I’ve been to cat island, Japan a few times. Would love to live there. Have six cats in the house and one small dog. All play wonderfully.

I have 4 rescue kitties. I don't have a barn but I did build them a 400 sq. foot catio. It's so much better than letting them run loose in the neighborhood.

@@mojoneko8303 Your “catio” is a good idea..often thought about something like that for the house cats. My barn cats don’t run free, I’m not feeding the wildlife here. Eagles, great horned owl, bobcats, coyotes and a hand full of wolves..have a female cougar that use to show up about every six months but haven’t seen any signs of her for a couple years. I did put a large double decker dog kennel on the back of the barn so they can come outside. During warm weather I have a large catnip plant that grows in the corner. My house is an old 3 story Victorian house that was built in 1883 and has 15 rooms. One room is set up as a cat room for any sick or injured barn cats. If they have to come in during the winter for any reason, then they stay in until the nights are warm enough for them to go back to their barn.

I take care of a colony of 12. My housemate and I made several shelters. We were just talking about building a house under my porch. I live in Michigan and it gets very cold and snowy. I wish I could bring them all into my warm house but I already have 6. My city received a large grant and has been providing me with food.

​@@OneOfUsHereWow thanks for helping them! Just in case you don't know, please don't use towels in their lil houses. The towels will freeze, so please be sure to use straw. You can find that at your local feed store if you have a one. It's not expensive and I get fresh straw every year to put in my little houses for the feral cats.

My friend made a makeshift house shelter of bricks for his cats to escape from any stray dogs that might chase them. Thank goodness they saved these four lucky cats here!

​@@michelewalburn4376 Believe me when I tell you traveling to Europe is easier and safer than here in the States...and cheaper if you know what to do, and how to do it. I lived in Norway for years, and so got to go to other places too. For example, I'm hoping to head to London in the near future, and cheaply. Where I'm hoping to stay will cost $52 per night. It's now the low season, so all prices drop. Am hoping the same with my airline ticket. It takes planning, flexibility, and willingness to be inconvenienced. Anyone can see Europe inexpensively.

I Love stories about Cats! 😌I went to Spain as a child twice Alicante and some other cities, but this is so Cool about the Cats. If you ever get a chance go to KeyWest, Florida and tour Ernest Hemmingway's house which is still full of Cats related to ones he owned many years ago. Some history about the house in Key West. The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is home to approximately 60 polydactyl (six-toed) cats. Cats normally have five front toes and four back toes. About half of the cats at the museum have the physical polydactyl trait but they all carry the polydactyl gene in their DNA, which means that the ones that have 4 and 5 toes can still mother or father six-toed kittens.

I loved Hemingway's house/museum in Key West. I lived there for a while and when I come back I always go back there. Also went to Spain a few years ago but did not see the House of Cats, but plenty of narrow streets!

I'm just down the road from Valencia, in Benidorm. We have a lot of cats and rescue groups in the area (catch, fix and release) as well as people like me and my husband who take in, fix and rehome kittens.

That is really cute and practical. Many years ago, I went to Amsterdam and took a tour on a boat on the canals there. The tour guide pointed out the cat boat to us. There was a boat crawling with cats docked on the side of a canal. People lived on boats, so I don't know if people were living there who had a lot of cats or if just cats lived there. This was about 47 years ago, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was still there.
