I agree. 4 o clock is my cats feeding time. But he wants me to be there to watch him or he wont eat. I leave food out but he wants me there. He also often wants 2am and 6am feeds but they can vary in their timing. The cat is a rescued feral cat and its fully mature. It really is just like having a baby!

That’s exactly the time our 4 1/2 month old kitten wakes up without fail and then he won’t go back to sleep until 9am. Has your cat started to sleep through the night?
@cordcd7

Mine is almost 9 and he’s been waking me up between 3 and 3:30A every night for as long as I can remember. At one point we took him to the vet to see if maybe there was something wrong with him. The vet suggested we add a feeding before bed (we don’t leave food out) and that worked to push the time to about 4:30/5A. About 2 years in, I started getting up at 5:30 for work and would feed him then. In 2020 when I was forced to WFH, he would wake me up a little earlier after he figured out I wasn’t getting up at 5:30 anymore. But it was at the earliest 4:30. Over the last 5 weeks he’s back to 3:30 and frequently will wake me up even earlier for no good reason. I refuse to feed him prior to 3:30A but there’s nights he’ll cry, knock things over and hit the blinds for hours. We do playtime before bed and feedings to no avail.

@@staceycook6404 He’s waking up at 4am now and wants company to play or just hang out. Unfortunately we can’t get him a cat friend, otherwise things would be better. Also we free feed him his dry food and leave wet food, ( regularly changed), out for him, as that’s helped others with their cats problems, as they will go and graze and then go back to sleep. That kind of does help him.

When I got my current cat, Newt, I trained him to wait for the alarm. To do this the first couple weeks I had him, when he woke me up early, I would ignore him, grab my phone and set a timer. I would then continue to ignore him until the timer went off. When it went off, I would get up, play with him, feed him, and go back to sleep. The first morning the timer was 10 minutes, and every morning I would go five minutes longer. It only took him about a week to know he has to wait for the alarm. For the first few months, I set the alarm early and just went back to bed after feeding. Also for the first few months he would be awake and playing (not on the bed) and as soon as he heard the alarm he would jump on my bed and remind me it’s time to eat. After about three months, he started sleeping until the alarm whenever it might go off... Now I have a regular alarm at the same time everyday... Even on weekends... Neither of us ever sleep through it, and if one of us wakes up before the alarm, we wait for the alarm before getting up.

If I open my eyes, she takes her paw, no claws, and closes my eyes...one at a time! When my eyes are closed, she will lay down by my head and curl up , start purring and sleep. Always in my right! The second I have to wake up to pee, unless I say pee, she will try to close my eyes again. Not until daylight will she let me wake up! Im 76 , I have had cats All my life ! along side Mice < horses , many dogs ,wild birds ,I I specialised in feral cats .. mostly toms ... sadly at the end of their lives , but also kittens .. totally feral , with great success! During covid lock down , I got so lonely I realise I needed an animal for company. after a great deal of thought , I thought , as I am a wee bit antique, the best animal was a cat ? I looked at the on line data of our local Sanctuary and kept noticing a pair of cats ... longest residents ... litter mates ,They had been in care for5 + yrs !! The sanctuary decided that despite lockdown , I could apply!! They checked me out and allowed me to take these weird pair!! They ... are a true delight !! and will be with me till I , or they die !! BUT I would be so grateful for your imput to make their lives even better ! as they display so many problems that are at worst, conflicting ... and at best ..... v difficult !!

The crepuscular awakening is really rooted in a cat's mind. The only time I have seen my own Choupette go into a morning panic is the day I stayed in a hotel room at night with her, and the blinders prevented any light to enter the room. In the morning, around her usual waking up time, she clearly got anxious. She asked to go outside and I took her for a walk on a leash in the corridor (again no windows): she was still anxious after two explorations of the floor. Then I took her downstairs (only windows close to the door): she settled down a little. It is only when I opened the blinders that she cooled down in less than a minute! Then I understood what was happening: for the first time in her life, the sun was not in sync with her internal clock...

I have had cats all my life but our cat Bella is different than any I have had on the past. She is very attached to my husband and I. She is very vocal and will have full on conversations with us. We are still waiting for our cat Bella to “outgrow” the torturing us while we sleep phase 😳She is 2 1/2. She likes beginning around 11pm and every 2 hours after that until after 9am. She only takes brief cat naps in between the 9 or so hour crazy time. We have tried ignoring, but instead of getting the message she sends us one by destroying anything she can find. Banging cords against the walls, smacking blinds, knocking plants down, climbing furniture, and her favorite is to use our mattress from underneath the bed as a scratch post. We tried blocking under the bed and she just pulls the sides of the mattress. Love her to pieces but she is driving us nuts.

With three cats, if I ignore one, the next one starts. LOL I've solved the problem by the absolute craziest solution ever. I mean, folks thing I'm absolutely insane for doing this, but I've found that it works. I get up, I use the bathroom, and then..........I feed them. All three cats. Whenever the 20 year old cat wakes me up, that's when everybody gets fed. 4, 5, 6am - whatever it is. She wakes me up, I have to use the bathroom anyway, so I might as well feed them. Then I go back to sleep and everybody's happy. It interrupts my sleep for about 10 minutes, then I'm back in bed. Works every time.

I've had a kitten for 3 weeks now and I have to say, this mostly works! At first she woke us up at 4, 6 a.m... we ignored her. She still sometimes goes crazy around 6 a.m., but we ignore her and she goes back to sleep after ~10 minutes. But now we give her her last meal at 9:30 p.m. We play before, but also after (she has lots of energy lol) and she legitimately starts getting sleepy before 11 p.m. By 11, she's usually fast asleep. However, I've discovered it's VERY important to get prepared for bed together with her! If I make a big fuss at 11 p.m., she wakes up and wants to play and goes crazy for about 15 minutes. I have to prepare for bed before 11 p.m. It's also hard to ignore her, you can hear all kinds of sounds and I get very curious (and sometimes worried) about what she's doing. But you have to pretend to sleep😂

She also is in middle stages of kidney failure. So far the gaba is not working to get her to sleep for more than 2 hours at night. . She will sleep for 2 hours after taking 8 mg of it. then is up and down all night on bed and meowing. She has plenty of wet food i leave out, fresh water, clean kitty box. I make a slurry of her wet food. Never give her dry food. She has 2 water stations. I'm lucky if i can get 1 hr of sleep at a time. I'm going to start sleeping in my car. I would say the best thing I to adopt two kittens at the same time. I been a cat Mom since 1982. They did better if there was more than one. Maybe she could adopt a kitten for her cat. Since the cat is a female she might adapt quickly. An 18 month old cat is fairly young. I had good and bad experience with cats. We adopted our current kittens September of 2020. One we adopted from a vet office thinking we were going to get litter mates. All of the liter mates were gone except for one with multiple health problems plus needing an eye removal. We decided to take this wonderful ginger female tabby cat. Her name is Clementine. We needed to buy pet supplies at pet store and they happened to have an adoption event from a cat rescue. My husband fell in love with a gray tabby female. She was a feral kitten at birth but socialized in a foster home. Very Friendly. Her name was Natalie so we kept it. Natalie was 14 weeks and Clementine 8 weeks. Natalie hissed at Clementine for 2 days and they became best of friends or sisters as we call them now. We did not let the kittens sleep with us until recently. They did a little whining outside our bedroom door but we kept it shut. We had Sherpa blankets that we placed them on. We also gave them wet food before bedtime and fresh water. I also leave out dry food 24/7. They now sleep with us. They are great. Sometimes our 18 year old son gets up and plays with them before we do. I thoughts on this are get her a kitten so she can Mother it. I find we been doing the right thing with these cats. Since we are 64 and 62 years old they maybe our last and trying to do it right.

For a little over a week we changed our cats (Evie and Lupe) feeding strategy from free feeding to scheduled. The last meal of the day is at 8 pm, then after we wake up and drink a coffee we will feed them again (around 5am). Lupe (less than a year old) wakes up at 3 am every day. First, she was throwing pencils to the floor and walking on top of us so that we will wake up and feed her. We ignored her for a couple of days and she stopped doing that. However, her new strategy is to attack Evie (over 3 years old) from 3 am until we wake up. She will attack Evie for over an hour our two if it is necessary, and will only stop as soon as we wake up. We live in an apartment so it is hard not to do anything to stop them fighting because the neighbors can hear them. We still drink our coffee and wait a while to feed them. But we are really exhausted of waking up at 3 am every day. What can we do 😭?? Please we need help!!!

@@kells32 Yes, clicker training is a great way to bond with your cats and stimulate them mentally. There are also food puzzles you can leave out when you go to work. Fundamentally Feline has great reviews for many different food puzzles. One of my kitties wakes me up several times during the night wanting his treats. When I try to ignore him, he BITES me!!! I try covering with several layers of blankets for protection, but he just BITES HARDER and his needle-teeth goes THROUGH the layers of blankets and INTO me!!! And all those blanket layers just makes me so hot that I can't sleep anyway. I cant shut him out because we have no bedroom door and cannot have one put in (it's an apartment). So...I give him his treats to keep him from biting me to death!!! This has resulted in him being even MORE spoiled AND even chubbier!!! I have started giving bits of car food in between wake times, to try to decrease the calories he is getting in the night. Since he was a bottle baby, he was/is used to me feeding him every couple of hours. Though he bothers me less during the day for food/treats, the nightly feeding demands continue. We have one too and now my cat meows like crazy for about 30 mins before it’s due to go off. She just needs to be more patient. We’ve already adjusted the times of feeding too

@@jenniferrosenthal7731 hopefully she gets more patient. It took my cat a minute to realize I don't feed her anymore. She just sits on top of the feeder when it gets close to food time lol.

When rescued my current feral boy he would wake me up to get fed at the crack of dawn, I just put a pillow over my head and ignored him..... now he rarely tries to wake me. Another thing I've learned is to put out fresh food in his bowls before I go to bed so he just goes in and eats and goes back to sleep.

I have a 15-16 year old cat who has started doing this at 4am, or 5am or 6am. I assumed he is going senile as an older cat. Yes, ignoring them is the hardest part. :)

US, too!!! She is 16 and started doing this ever since we moved homes. AND there are stray kittens and cats outside, so she is really upset a lot.

Victor is 15.5 and lost his friend in May. In July, he was diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease and we had to change his diet. Now he climbs on my pillow almost every morning at 3 (on the dot!) and pulls my hair, pokes me on the cheek, and even drools on my face! Try ignoring that! If I just walk with him to the kitchen and shake his kibble bowl, he eats and lets me sleep... for about 2 hours. Ugh! It's a good thing he's cute!!

yeah mine is 19 and started singing me out of bed in the morning. but she got deaf in the last years so she doesn't even realize how unbelievably loud she is

I’m similar my cat is 18 and deaf so the meows are so loud. We do keep her downstairs with the bedroom door shut and hallway door shut. She does sometimes wail or meow but it stops after a few minutes, when it is time to wake up I give her lots of fuss and feed her breakfast. She’s always tried to wake us up (5-6am) all her life it never stopped and it’s always for food because she is so greedy. Between the ages of 2-12 she always slept in the room with me but as she’s gotten older she needs the litter tray and access to water more frequently so I think it’s best to keep her downstairs over night and in the day time open the doors so she can sleep on the bed.

I have a slightly different sleep problem with my cat. If she's not with me in my bed at night, cuddling and spooning with me, I cannot sleep at all.😞💔

So... My family is screwed til I move then. My dad definitely won't buy into not shouting at her, and my bedroom is too small for her the whole night (no spots to even set up vertical movement, I'm using basically all the available room already) Fun. Least that shouldn't be more than 2 to 4 months from now...

I get up when they wake us up, put them out of the bedroom until it’s 8:15. The cats are used to the routine and sometimes they don’t even wake us up until after 8 am. I have the purrfect cats ❤️🐾

My cats are such cuddlers that they wouldnt mind in the least if I slept all day, as long as they got to stay cuddled with me the whole time. In fact, about a month back I felt so sick that I went back to bed around 11 AM and slept the rest of the day and through the night. My husband told me that when he made their dinner, they took turns coming down, to ensure at least one was with me at all times. I used to have one cat that liked to wake me though. He didnt actually want me to get up, he just wanted to get some pets from time to time. So he would come over, lick my eyelids (not as sweet as it sounds) until I woke up, then he'd push his head into my hands. A few minutes of petting and we would both fall asleep. I guess I have had some weird cats.

I saw a video recently with music for cats and some of the video sounds like purring noises. A lot of people found it to work to calm down their cats and help them sleep.

My sweet werewolf Samantha is a diabolical genius. As s kitten she learned human anatomy and how to concentrate all her momentum onto my bladder to get my attention. Now she wakes me up with a "meow mama" every single night between 2-4 am, only to make sure I still adore her, and as soon as I mumble her name she comes up for a snuggle & goes back to sleep ♡

Thanks for the tips Jackson. My cat Uh Oh is driving me crazy. I live in an apartment so it’s extra tough because my neighbors can hear her. She’ll meow for over an hour omg. I’ll try this for sure too. You’re looking great!

I am one of those knuckleheads who does not let the kitties in the bedroom. I am a little bit allergic, and need the dander free space to sleep. Plus, the last time a kitty got into my room I got a whisker up my nose. So please, no judgement!

Omg my cat never lets me sleep and I hear him playing with toys jumping on the window perch, chattering, meowing at 5:30am, nipping my feet with his teeth for me to get up and let him out to eat. I’m going to try this for sure!
