Watching again over my morning cuppa - a perfect video in every way. Glad you didn’t meet any trolls and hope you don’t get plagued by the idiot human kind either. During the week I watched 3 men climbing the east ridge of Mount Edith Cavell ( Canadian Rockies and named after our local heroine, nurse executed in Brussels during W W 1) the rock looked very friable so it was good to see Scottish firm gabbro . I always look forward to Wednesdays. Thank you Murray. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿❤️👍😄

Thanks for your reply. Just a thought about the lovely shot of the stag on the misty horizon. It reminded me of the first line of a verse of a song sung by Moira Kerr - “ McIain of Glencoe “ which begins “ The royal stag stands proudly on the hill.. .” If you’re interested you can hear the song on Utube. Thanks for bringing back fond memories. 30 - 40 years ago, my friends and I stayed at Dibadle bothy three years in a row wintertime. The last time we ascended Askival, there was a low cloud. When we broke through the cloud on the ridge, we saw a Brocken Spectre and a brilliant blue sky with white clouds below. The Bothy had no furniture and no wood lining on the walls. Crossing the Dibadle burn, I fell in and got washed down the waterfall. I landed and sitting the bottom of the waterfall, the water landing on my rucksack, pinning me down till I got free. My friends thought I was entertaining them, and I was not hurt.

I was lucky enough to spend a fortnight on Rum in 1972 with the Lakes School. Only 14 at the time and we were only the second party given permission by the Nature Conservation!. Our base camp was in Glen Kinloch, we climbed al the Cullin and many of the other hills. The only area "out of bounds" was the NE "corner. Certainly no paths back then! That fortnight sowed a seed of visiting the wild places around the world for me! Thanks for taking the time to film, edit and post the video it's brought back many memories of all those years ago 👌

What? Almost getting sea sick on the ferry? Say it ain't so lol! Beautiful seeing the water rush over the rocks at 5:15, and then what a spot to sit and have a cup of coffee. Omg that view at 16:50! Smart idea to wear goggles due to your eyes watering. Learned a new word, Corbett, I appreciate you pointing out that that's what those mountains are called. What a nice bothy, and when you finally left and turned to your right, dang, that view too. I know you said it was cold, especially that time of year (which it is), but that's music to my ears since it's scorching here in Texas! Walking back and standing by that river, that was lovely hearing the water, and oh, hi there to that beautiful stag! Bet you'll never forget your gators again lol. Ahhh Glenmorangie, yep, no wonder you slept well. Love the remote and secluded look of this area, looking forward to when you tackle Hallival. Wishing you and the family, including Lexie, a great weekend, thanks Murray! 👋

Wow, what a place the Isle of Rum is! Full of mystery, she didn't want to give away all her secrets this time, you will just have to visit again for those elusive views! We think we would have given up after the first two peaks, especially with the challenging weather and navigation issues you were facing, an amazing route🙌. And what a camp spot. A truly wild and rugged place. We loved this adventure, and have added the Isle of Rum to our travel wishlist 😊👍

Sorry you were in the clag on Askival. Mountain summits with a sea view are my favourites. On Askival the sea’s all around you, with views to the Skye Cuillin, Eigg etc. I’m sure you’ll return - Rum has its own magic. (If it helps, we got eaten alive by midges though!)

Great video considering the conditions. Went to Rhum (old spelling) about 25 years ago. You didn't mention the 'grass arete' on the north ridge of Askival. Bloody scary in the mist as very narrow and due to the lack of visibility, what felt like an infinite drop on each side. Excellent!

Another great watch Murray🎉. Sorry you didn't manage to get to film more great views. But I guess that makes your trips so "real". Keep on walking, we love to watch your adventures. 🤩👌

You should grab yourself a set of German or Swedish army folding goggles, they look a bit mental but they fold up to the size of a credit card and come with a little pouch they give you pretty good coverage. I usually carry them as spairs to my ski goggles for in the winter. Worth a look 👍

Looks different, we climbed it one Easter on a university geology field trip, it was covered in snow! Remember the ledges but we were looking at their geology. We actually stayed in the castle, I remember the toilet located in the corner turret! We also did a hike to the northern side of the island. Interesting you mentioned the possibility the ferry might get canceled, our trip out was canceled but our lecturer arranged a trawler, only my mate Neil and myself didn’t get seasick, maybe the scotch from the boat skipper!

Another great video Murray. My mate and I were there last year and stayed at bunkhouse on Rum (excellent btw) and climbed Hallival and Askival. Richard suffers with his knees so we abandoned rest of ridge at Bealach an Oir and contoured round Atlantic Corrie (tough going) to Bealach Bairc Mheall and back to bunkhouse. Correct decision given our age both wrong side of 70 (just). Put a short vid on my U tube channel but nowhere near as professional as yours.

Fantastic video one of my favourite places have been a few times to Rum over the years shame about the mist because the summit views are truly spectacular but another reason to re visit in the future. I had mist on my last trip in April this year I stayed at the bothy it was a special place. There is an excellent book by Magnus Magnusson (mastermind) called Rum natures island that I recommend worth reading about Rum. I also went to Eigg last year and climbed An Sgurr and wild camped looking across to Dibidil I put a small video of it on my channel I highly recommend going if you haven’t been it’s fantastic. You continue to make fantastic outdoor videos that are truly inspiring thanks so much the trolls mountain is a fabulous peak cheers ATB Andy K (Kim Yong young look alike)

What an adventure. It's a pity the weather couldn't be better for you.. Glad you did this,I've been looking at doing it as well it looks amazing.. Walkhighlands doesn't make it sound so tricky, was it mainly down to your bad visibility and wet rocks that made it more a challenge? it's been a right hit and a miss this summer... but as you said the midges haven't been to bad this year because of all the wind, but how have you been with ticks? ( I know all about your bad experience with them), I've had more ticks on me than I've ever had.. last two munro hike I found ten on my legs and three had managed to bite, suppose that's what I get for wearing shorts .🤷‍♂️😅
@ScotlandsMountains
@ScotlandsMountains 2 ай бұрын
Hi- i have had no ticks since i started using permethrin . It’s not a nice chemical but i really don’t want to experience Lyme again so on trips like this where i know i will be in he bush i usually give my gear a top up spray of permethrin and have had no ticks at all. In terms of the hills , nav is always easier in good weather but i found these really demanding in the poor vis and sadly there have a been a number of fatalities on the Rum Cuillin over the yers so they definetly demand respect (as all Scottish mountains do). Hope you get over an enjoy them though and get better conditions than i experienced Thanks for watching Atb Murrya
