The footage of Sonny driving around the area in Memphis where he grew up was filmed in 2002 for the BBC documentary "The Elvis Mob". Sonny sadly passed away from cancer on 24th May 2017, aged 78. 👍

I am sorry about how sonny west passed away and I as a Elvis fan sent money to help him out when he needed it,but what he did to Elvis is shameful but he will meet him again and will have to explain to Elvis about the awful things he and red said about him.with friends like these I would have hated to meet his enemies.rest in peace both of you

It's heartbreaking when you go back to your hometown that was a thriving city, to see its almost a ghostown and what neighborhoods that are left has run down or boarded up. Empty lots where houses and businesses used to be. Even the sprawling campus of NCR or Fridgidaire etc all gone! Oh and almost No places to eat or buy groceries even! This was Dayton Ohio my friends. I was born and raised there and lived there for my first 42 years. I moved to SC and still live here. I have almost no family left and the few I do have moved out of Dayton to the small towns surrounding Dayton. They are thriving ( the small towns) I'll never go back to Dayton for any reason,its too depressing! Even though here in the south one politico party rules and it's just a good ole boy system. My children,grands and great grands are here. I'm in my twilight years so I just enjoy my family and can only hope the younger generation can change things so they can have a better quality of life ! Some changes are for the better,and I pray people wake up! You can't have ine party that wants to do things that keep you in the past and not move forward! You stagnate and die as a town,city orr state!

I totally agree with you I also am in my Twilight years and I also lived in Ohio a good part of my marriage years I lived in tiffin Ohio and I like you hope young people wake up and try to keep these small towns clean and prosperous for the sake of the next and the next generation

Memphis is depressing. Had Elvis lived he probably would have had to leave.
@sandralybrand94259 ай бұрын
I don't think that's true. As like ng as he was alive so was the city of Memphis. He put it on the map as a destination place of music etc I blame the ones in charge for letting it go downhill. Vegas was a dying city until Elvis started playing there. When that happened people from around the world started coming! The people in charge have kept it going and it's bigger than ever!
@sandralybrand94259 ай бұрын
Elvis would be heartbroken to see the place he loved so much in the state it's in now. He could have lived in California or anyplace in the country but Memphis was Home to him. It wasn't just G aceland, it was Memphis and the people there he loved!

Had Elvis lived he would have made sure Memphis was kept in good shape.i have been to Memphis many many times and it is not a safe or pretty city anymore but when Elvis was living things were more clean and nice because he was not afraid to take on the system.i was not afraid to go to Beale street when he was living but now i would not dare to go there

Why doesn't the council of Memphis or who's ever in charge, clean up the place, there's so much rubbish everywhere, they should do something about it, people all around the world come to see Graceland and would probably like to see everything else in Memphis if it was well kept.The residents that live there might actually make some effort to keep there area maintained, it's such a shame to see it like this. Just looks very sad.

Don't kick him for telling the truth. You can live someone dearly,but it doesn't mean you close your eyes about their flaws. I understand because I have a son I love dearly, but sometimes don't like. He is a very loving and kind person that'll help you out without asking,but can turn into a vengeful demon and say things that will hurt you to your soul.

Important and should be noted: These are not the best or safest areas anylonger, especially for tourists or Elvis fans to venture into. Some of those locations are in or near very high risk neighborhoods and definitely not the better parts of Memphis. Each with very high crime rates, violence and gang activity. Stick with Graceland.
