Hi Gabriel, The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare, probably in 1603. The story revolves around two characters, Othello and Iago. Othello is a Moorish military commander who was serving as a general of the Venetian army in defense of Cyprus against invasion by Ottoman Turks. Richard the Leonhardt spoke French and Latin and at the time had dominion over parts of France. He sold Cyprus to the Templars, but they couldn't maintain power there was a revolt. The Templars wanted to give the Island back to Richard and he agreed. Guy de Lusignan, who was his friend, was having problems ruling in Jerusalem so he decided to resolve the issue by giving Guy Cyprus.

On a recent visit to the island, checked out 3 of the houses we lived in, only 1 still standing. When we were there the front house wall was peppered with bullets, we were sheltering under the bed. No evidence of bullet holes there now

Terrible injustice that occurred on the island. Ironically when the invasion began the British Navy was overlooking the invasion and did nothing. Divide and conquer is their motto. Makarios had his offices in the basement of the British High Commission… The island was not just invaded and divided by the Turks, but by the British as well. Ironically many British expats (immigrants) now live in the Turkish occupied area; some in homes once belonging to Greeks. Meanwhile back at the British Museum of Stolen Art, they are busy selling Ancient Greek artefacts while having orgies in from of the Parthenon marbles that they vandalised at the Acropolis.

The Church of Saint George the Exiler in Famagusts going back to 1350 belonged to the Church of The East an Eastern Christian Church founded in the First Century A.D. (known erroneously as Nestorian) is a church in the old town of Famagusta, Cyprus. Originally built as a church belonging to the Church of the East, and was named for Saint Mary originally it was converted to a Greek Orthodox Church in the British era after centuries of use as a stable for camels in the Ottoman era. It is one of the legendary "365 churches of Famagusta". The church lies in the western areas of the old city of Famagusta within the walls. It lies to the southeast of St. Anne's Church, and this church was built by Assyrian merchants (Church of The East followers, the indigenous people of what is Iraq and parts of the regions surrounding it). During the Neo Assyrian Empire Cyprus was part of the Empire and was called Latnanna during the reign of Tiglath-Pileser III (744-727 B.C.), and ended with the fall of the Neo Assyrian Empire in 609 B.C. Information shows that since it has been converted to a cultural center.

Your video for my hometown brought tears and pain, as in 1974 my family plus 200.000 people were forced to leave their home and move to the south part of the island in order to save their lives. Since then, turkish-cypriots and greek-cypriots live separately. Refugees on both communities, in our own country. So sad to allow unjustice for 50 years..... I hope one day all the refugees from both communities return to their hometowns and live in peace.

In the medieval knight times, Famagusta was co capital of Knight Templars with Nicosia. In XII, XIII, XIV and XV century Knight Templars were crowned as Kings of Cyprus in the St. Sophia Cathedral in Nicosia and then crowned as Kings of Jerusalem in the St Nicholas Cathedral (on video) in Famagusta. St Nicholas Cathedral was constructed by Knight Templars for coronation from 1298 to 1312 in french gothic style in same time like other similiar cathedrals in France for example Notre-Dame in Paris. Holy Grail from Jerusalem was in the St Nicholas Cathedral for crowning Kings of Jerusalem.

The island of Cyprus was a Frankish Kingdom known as the Kingdom of Cyprus, ruled by the royal house of Lusignan. The minaret in itself is a part of history, this was done many hundreds of years ago. Christians has done similar things, like converting mosques into churches in Granada, Spain and converting the pagan temple of Pantheon in Rome into a Roman Catholic church. It's all part of history.

FACT: greeks never built anything untill the arrival of Ottoman empire as they were not freely allowed to preach chiristianity under other nationalities which ruled cyprus. Buildings were given to greeks aswell as freedom to preach by Ottomans and not before! Cyprus which was ruled by different suzerains, but which never in its entire history came under Greek rule, was conquered by the Ottomans in 1571 and ruled by them until 1878 when Ottomans rented the island to England/British! so even this building was not belonging to the greek minority!

I'm ethnicly part Cypriot but live in Wisconsin. I feel like this video is unconsciously biased against the Turks. My understanding is that the Greeks were engaged in terrorism, so Turkey sent security forces and there's been peace since then. This is probably what ought to happen in Palestine / Israel today. I'm Catholic, but peace is more important than pride. Beautiful old buildings though. Cool to see. Gratzie.

Completely the opposite. It all started when Turkey created late 1958 TNT terrorist organisation which massacred not only Greeks but also Turkish Cypriot patriots who associated with Greeks. Turkey started bombarding the small defenceless Island of Cyprus even from 1964. Check UN resolution 186 of 1964: Turkey is recalled to implement the international law and stop bombarrding the small island of Cyprus and interfering with the turkish TNT terrorist organisation. So it's not what everyone's opinion is but what UN resolutions say. There are about 15 or more UN resolutions convicting Turkish army for invading Cyprus

When Turkey forced its TNT terrorist organisation to kill Turkish Cypriot journalist Kavazoglou and other leftists Turkish Cypriots who were against Turkish imperealism and supported the brotherhood with their Greeks compatriots. It was Turkey which started bombarding the small defenceless Island of Cyprus during Bloody Christmas. You know, anyone can write whatever he wants in Wiki, but can't support it by a third party objectivity like UN resolutions There is not even one resolution in the favour of Turkey, but ALL (more than 15) against Turkey.
