Oh man, I just moved away from my childhood home. I had this really cute light switch cover, it was Winnie the Pooh themed. I deadass unscrewed it and took it with me. I miss our little old house so much. Recently I went back just to see how they staged it and stuff, and it was such a strange experience. Everything was familiar. The sound of the breeze, the barking of the dogs, the sound of the streets… it made me tear up.

My mom would NEVER...I used to collect a lot of Disney stuff and 95% of it was Lion King themed. Stuffed animals, books, picture, the music books so I could play on the piano and sing. My mom always told me to hang onto them because they would be worth money someday. Selling those items is the only thing that's keeping me financially afloat and from getting a second job. And a lot of that money is going as a downpayment on my first house 😊 It hurts like hell to have to sell them and say goodbye to the things that brought me comfort as a kid. Wherever they end up, I hope they make someone as happy as they made me. Our childhood house was foreclosed on during the last recession but I miss my pink walls. The sound of the tree frogs at night from the woods behind the house. The sound of one dog barking that started the morning chorus of dog barks. Even my old swingset and treehouse. God I miss that...

It seems like a small thing, but I think it is a sign we did not grow up in a very healthy family. My family dynamic growing up was definitely... disordered and my mom immediately cleared out my room and changed everything about it the moment I moved out. I think even well into adulthood, there is just something grounding about the familiarity and stability you feel coming home to a place like this. Emotionally mature parents are more likely to realize that, I think.

I remember when I moved out on my own I was moving into a studio apartment and didn't have enough space to hold everything I owned so I asked my mom if she would keep my room undisturbed or even just box everything up and leave it in storage and she completely refused, she made me throw everything from my childhood that I loved with all my heart and charised most in this world and throw it all in the literal dump, my uncle picked up trash from friends he knew who lived to far out of town to get the city/town garbage men to come pick up there trash once a week, so my mom made me throw everything of mine that I wasn't able to take with me when I moved and throw it in his truck and he drove me to the actual dump and I had to toss it all away.....I had never been more pissed off at my mother, I flat out refused to speak to her for years after that and then unfortunately she died and I never got the chance to see her again before she passed. So I'm conflicted in my feelings about her death...like in one hand she was my mom and raised me and loved me in her own fucked up way....but at the same time....I can never get some of the things she made me get rid of back, some things were one of a kind collectables that I had collected and saved since I was a toddler. All my books and movies that I loved that I spend over 20 years collecting, everything is just gone
