Spell Research allows you to get access to spells without having to go to an expensive vendor (also as a potential money maker). And you can get quest reward spells like Flaming Familiar. It can be used while training spells on a dummy. And it allows condensing alchemy ingrediants to get powerful potion effects.
@TheWandererPlays8 ай бұрын
I watched a tutorial video on all of those systems and.... sheesh. Harry potter simulator in Skyrim lol. I think I get it all now though at least.
@perryvanderveen72268 ай бұрын
@TheWandererPlays Let me start by saying that I haven't looked into the specifics on how the research works in this particular modlist, but it seems at least similar to other requiem based hc overhauls I played. And tbh, I go back and forth on the concept. It fun and immersive when playing a character that enhances their build with some magic. But on full mage/priest/druid etc, type of builds, of even true hybrids like a spellblade, it tends to get old really fast for me. There are too many spells to be learned. But if I understand OP correctly, it seems less harsh here, because I'm used to not being able to learn bought spells from mentioned expensive vendors, without spending between hours to days in game time studying them. The more I see of this list, the more I like it.
@WhimsicalPacifist8 ай бұрын
@@perryvanderveen7226 Yep. In my case I like to study spells that would be troublesome to get otherwise. I still dump money on spell tomes, but that is a tertiary priority after gear and training. I don't use Research all the time, but it is really helpful for getting Summon Shelter 1/2 (bed AND a chest), Flaming Familiar, Ash Spawn and Master level spells.

@@TheWandererPlays If you hate hunterborn you are gonna detest spell research. the menu's, the loading times, the forced waiting. Everything you dislike about hunterborn is in spell research but to an exponential degree. Since the infinite carry weight allows you loads of items to sell, just buy the spells you need from court mages around skyrim and skip spell research altogether.

Haven’t seen anyone mention this tip yet but you can use the large bones from hunter born to make engraved bones. There are three in total. One for hircine, Julianos, and kynareth. Using one has a ~70% chance of giving an hour of passive stamina/magicka/health regen respectively. You can only have one active at a time but they’re very powerful. The stamina regen from the hircine bone helps alleviate a lot of stamina issues in the early game.

Fun fact about armor in requiem. The "base armor value" for a chest piece is rather meaningless. Armor has hidden bonuses against the different attacks. piercing, slashing, blunt, and ranged. As a light armor character you want to focus on armor that has multiple levels of ranged armor. This is viewable in the active effects menu with the armor equipped. There is an armor spreadsheet on the wildlander wiki if you want to compare the armors there, otherwise you just gotta build everything you can during your next smithing session and try them all on. Each level bonus is an additional 60 armor rating. So if you find a chest piece with +3 ranged it means you get the base armor rating plus an additional 180 against bows and crossbows. 300 armor vs crossbow is a lot better than just the stated 120-180. Generally armor will have bonus's in more than one category. Piercing is the most useless as few enemies wield daggers and those that do already do minimal damage. No amount of armor rating will save you against 2 handed power attacks but next to ranged the next best category is slashing as the bulk of enemies do this kind of damage. So basically all light armor I believe has a cap of 180 base armor on chest pieces, what separates low grade armor vs higher grade armor is the amount of additional ranks of armor going all the way up to +5. Glass armor will have at least one category at +5 and then more overall ranks in the other categories than lower level armors. Max armor rating in requiem is 800 which is 80% So every 100 armor rating is effectively 10% damage reduction. Of course enemies get perks as well so they get the ability to undo some of your reduction. Even with good armor and perks late game enemies with daedric bows and arrows will chunk you in light armor.

I learned about this today - saw someone talking about it in the discord server and went to investigate on the wiki. Man, it's pretty deep. I really wish there was a better way to display and convey that information in game without having to look up the stats on the wiki, unless I'm missing something.
@SirAirlessDaVacuum8 ай бұрын
@@TheWandererPlays You aren't missing anything. Effectively requiem was never "finished". The original author put it in maintenance mode for years and eventually handed it off. Too flesh it out fully would take a substantial amount of further work.

just a heads up wanderer, in vanilla crossbows ignore armor rating. it looks like the same is somewhat true for this mod pack. it's why the guy with the elven armor and crossbow was dealing so much damage. also the pack creator said he was going to do away with the level indicator on enemies as it's fairly meaningless as a level 5 bandit could one shot you, but a level 20 bear goes down in a hit. so the overall level shown on the hud doesn't mean much.
@spicydeath828 ай бұрын
also the glenmoril witches are part of a quest to remove lycanthropy if you get it from either the companions quest line or via a random werewolf attack. they are far from druids. they actually torture animals and spriggans. becoming a witch means giving up their humanity, which causes them to become hagravens eventually. they also tend to have partnerships with the foresworn and help them create briarheart warriors.

That's an interesting mechanic, and it makes sense. Crossbows have the power to penetrate armor, but to balance it, they do less base damage. I like it.

By the way, I love what you're doing with this series and I am a past fan of Wildlander but wonder why you're playing a list that Dylan has abandoned? As far as I can tell it has not been updated since I believe July of last year. Yes, it still has great mechanics, great game play loop as your videos clearly demonstrate but the future of it is somewhat locked unless someone adopts it and begins working the list forward again. Either way, I am enjoying the series and of course Wildlander. Well, at least watching you play it.
@TheWandererPlays8 ай бұрын
Why does the future of the modpack matter? I'm doing a playthrough of Wildlander now, and it's been updated fairly recently (6 months ago if what you say is correct), and a playthrough like this could take me 3+ months to get through, at which point Fallout London will be out. As far as I can tell, this modpack does what I want it to better than any other modpack out there, though I'm certainly open to trying others. I don't know, this line of thought that you express is weird to me. If a game is good at release, but the devs don't have any plans to add more content or change anything... but it's good as is, does that make it less valid to play and enjoy it? I have Wildlander installed as a standalone instance (as all wabbajack installs are) and it will function forever as is. If nothing else, once I'm done with it, I'll have a good grasp of what I like, what I want changed, and I can dig into the MO2 setup and make my own mod list with this as a base. From the posts I've seen, Dylan has been too busy with working full time while also attending college courses, to commit the kind of time that he would like to Wildlander. He was hoping to go full time from the patreon, but that wasn't financially viable, so he's doing what he has to in order to make ends meet. Can't blame him for that. Maybe there's more to it, I don't dig into or care about modder drama, I just play what I enjoy.

@@TheWandererPlaysThanks for replying. My question was one of curiosity behind your reasons and motivation of choosing Wildlander vs. other similar mod lists available. You did a good job of explaining that and I appreciate the clarity. Your points are all good ones and I am not a KZbin Content Creator so my perspective is always as someone who plays for himself and not for others. In terms of Dylan, I understand the problems he faced and don't begrudge him at all. I have over 4,650 hours in Skyrim so I have played every mod list out there through the Wabbajack installer at one time or another. I currently play Remastered for my mod list but I have always liked Wildlander so its possible I may in fact install it again so I have a Requiem based list I like to play. I like Lala's stuff but I am waiting for his update before trying it again. Of course I love Do Not Go Gentle but again, I know he is working on an update. Wildlander is unique, no other mod list offers what Dylan and team did for it so I salute the hard work that he and the team put into it. I hope I did not offend you. That was not my intent. Either way.."Life is captured in moments, moments become memories, and memories can become little pools of happiness that help sustain us throughout our lives." Best To All...
@TheWandererPlays8 ай бұрын
Not offended at all, and, although I have that kind of experience (4000+ hours) playing modded Fallout 4, I'm relatively new to modded Skyrim, and my understanding is that it's a much deeper pool, so to speak. Many more mods and flavors. It's all a bit overwhelming for someone like me. I'm a bit sad to hear your say that Wildlander is a bit unique in what it does. If Dylan has given it up (not sure if that's really the case - more like it's on pause while he gets IRL stuff under control, but I don't know him personally), then it sounds like at some point I'd need to take a look at the list and all the mods in it to understand what it does/does not do, and customize it for myself. But of course that starts with playing through Wildlander (and Skyrim, because I haven't played it in ages) all the way through. What I'd love, is the core of Wildlander, combined with the visual overhaul of something like Elder Gleam, and some additions like Legacy of the Dragonborn. Though, I have not tried Legacy of the Dragonborn yet, it seems very very popular and looked interesting.

@@TheWandererPlaysThere is a KZbin Content Creator who also is putting together a list using Requiem as a base. It is oriented towards Lore Friendly Skyrim and what I've tested so far, looks pretty good. He says it's not far from being at 1.0 RC1 but check him out sometime. His KZbin name is Biggie_Boss. You may already be familiar with him. Also, if you like Fallout 4 that much you should do yourself a favor and install the Remastered Fallout 4 mod list. It's by the same person who does the Skyrim version I use. It will surprise you I think. Best to you and thanks for the videos. I enjoy watching them. I mean I just celebrated seventy one candles in January so my time is how I want to spend it at this point. Best to you...

@@mewillson The idea that Wildlander has been updated is kind of a joke. Wildlander has received trivial updates in the 2+ years it has been live. Its not fair to say it was abandoned, but rather it is and has been in maintenance mode since release. The aspects of Wildlander that are complete are fantastic, but ultimately it is unfinished and has glaring issues that Dylan has been aware of since release. Normally I would never criticize a list creator as they are generally just volunteers but Dylan has had healthy patreon support for the entirety of Wildlanders development. I was once a supporter but quit when 6 months into development there was no release in sight while he was supposedly doing it "full time." Once you take money for a service you are open for criticism and Dylan has woefully underperformed relative to the support he gets. Not a single substantial update since release, just game breaking fixes really. We haven't even gotten a healthy amount of bug fixes, fixes that have been ready for ages thanks to Lizzy but haven't been released because why exactly?? Wildlander is exactly what the "always free" crowd was warning against when they complained about people making modding about money.
