Hi Richard, back in the early 80s we got the B10 models followed later by the larger more luxurious Volvo coaches. We were rapt to have these nice vehicles, such an improvement performance wise on the older Hino's and Bedfords. It was easy to find oneself exceeding the speed limit unintentionally in the Volvo's which cruised so smoothly with no sensation of speed. On one occasion a Traffic Officer with a radar gun, clocked me at 120kph in a remote country area. Having been a former Ministry of Transport Officer, i went to Head Office in Wellington, where a senior ranking friend kindly waived the ticket, whew!, LoL.

We’re all limited to 62mph (100kmh) here now, following a couple of high profile collisions many years ago. Also banned from the outside overtaking lane on motorways in a coach. Having said that, 62 is a perfectly reasonable cruising speed and I find myself doing that in the car too! Older vehicles are not so restricted and our old AEC Reliance was good for 70+ as is my B21 bus - going is fine, it’s stopping that is the problem. It’s handy to have friends in the right places!!
