Electric vehicle chargers was the first thing that came to mind. They definitely didn't make life easy for you there. I think they should make the person who designed that terminate the 240mm four core so they get a blast of reality.

Takes a lot of infrastructure to get all that energy out of the coal and into the cars.

I've tried to get designers on site to show them their inadequacies but they refuse to turn up. I once confronted a young designer, by chance on a job and the site manager had to tell me to stop because he thought I was being too assertive. I was giving him about 40% worth😂😂😂

Whoever designed that cable install scheme definitely made it very easy for cable thieves

Second time I've seen a pair of those chain cutters. Look real handy for tight spaces!

If things are designed properly it keeps costs down because it takes less time to install!!! I love installing big SWA but god it can be a nightmare......even some of the light fittings with 1mm can be a pig to install to regs. Great videos mate, I've been doing the job for 15 years and you have given me some great tips.

I feel your pain there, there are too many designers that have always lived in a computer screen without any on-site experience. Some equipment we have to connect is just ridiculous sometimes. I really like watching your videos mate, very nice to watch a pro taking pride in their work. Happy new year!

I'd love a video of how you got those first lot of cables in, that must have been a nightmare. I'm hoping to do big jobs like that once I'm out my time.

You could fit a top box where there is lack of space and terminate in to the side of it. I've seen some boxes with 45° sides. But I agree, some designers are often so detached from reality and have never been onsite 😢

Noticed it for years in industrial. Done a job a few years back that had 4 x 24 way TP boards all side by side with a 6 inch gap sharing 1 6inch header. They tray for the incomer was 6 inch with 35mm 5 cores feeding them that was 9 inch off the bottom of the boards to bottom of the tray. Absolute piss take

Yeah the only way is to get them on site to hang off it for half an hour to see if they can bend it 10deg lol

Yeah I agree with you about the Designers Don’t think they have ever seen a large SWA Cable and the amount of space you need for Glanding etc I do like Schneider Gear though. Regards John UK

35:30 Hmm. . . would be good if someone designed a bolt-on for them gland plates maybe? Or maybe just an alternate type of gland plate for them? The new gland plate would have like a toblerone type shape (continuous, no segments, bit wider at top) on top of it. The faces of the 'toblerone' could be drilled to receive the glands, maybe the face could be 60degs or so. Enough of a slope so those two 4 x 240's could be glanded up with the face of the glands, pretty much lining up with the face of the toblerone shape on top of the gland plate? From there, there would be enough flex in the cores to move them about in the cabinet a bit easier. Hmm, will maybe do a sketch. Anything like that on the market already?

Silly question it may seem. But with the singles, don't you accommodate any issues for eddy currents by means of possibly using paxillin boards or something similar?

It's a non-ferous plate. Only ferrous plates will create induction

I feel your pain fella. Designers can work out the IQ of a pickled onion but can’t get the jar open. I have had MTM working on data centre projects for me in the past. Just wanted to ask if they were ally gland plates? Normally a nightmare for holesaws, we would prefer to punch them out.
@jointechcabling9103
@jointechcabling9103 Жыл бұрын
Yeah they're ally plates. I've got a cutting oil from WD40 that makes easy work of the cutting. The ally doesn't build up on the teeth of the hole saw. I'd love a hole punch though, it's gonna be my next purchase!!
@jasonmart1081
@jasonmart1081 Жыл бұрын
I've said it before, I'll say it again... Invest in some sheet metal punches, far easier and neater than hole saws. If you're feeling flush, buy a powered punch machine
@TonyCooMusic-m5c
@TonyCooMusic-m5c Жыл бұрын
The problem with them is you still have to drill a 12mm hole anyway so it doesn't save time. Does a neater job though.
