Great video. That brought back a lot of memories ... flying from Linton, aeros over Malton (indeed my location of choice, or over Flamingoland if Malton was busy), run in past Easingwold to name but a few. Also a lot of big changes, particularly with the aircraft. The PC-21 looks like a beautiful little beast to fly, and a world away from the old JP3. I remember it being rather more sparse, avionics-wise, but still a lot of fun.

I picked up the PC-21 a couple of days ago - well, it's yet another MSFS aircraft that has no mass :( you move the stick, something happens immediately, you stop moving the stick, things stop happening immediately, you hit some minor turbulence & it moves around instantly ( the JF aircraft do this too ) - not really any sense of mass in motion. Otherwise aside from the cockpit texturing needing some depth & a little wear, it's a pretty nice plane. It's not actually set up as a turboprop though, is it? there's no prop or torque effects, and when I got it into a rather vicious flat spin there was no prop wash over the rudder to help get out of it. ( I think I eventually put the flaps out, ruddered into it & pulled back, and somehow that turned it into a diving roll oO ). JF Hawk has an update imminently, apparently. Great vid! did you ever use the rudder at low level:? I'm aware of the easing the stick approach to dropping the nose in a turn, but sometimes that isn't always the best idea!
@cgaviator
@cgaviator Жыл бұрын
To put a couple of issues to rest, turboprops like this are powerful yet still relatively light. A combination of straight wings and decent ailerons will have it rolling instantly with stick input. As for the torque effect, I did question this but then I learnt about TAD. It is a system that provides rudder inout to automatically offset torque effect. This way it has more fast jet like handling. Alien to me and my Tucano days but clever. In the Tucano at low level rudder wasn’t really required at the high speeds so long as you’re in trim. Finally, the rudder effectiveness is a bug that hopefully they’ll fix by using proper CFD rather than a standard flight dynamics option. The rudder yaws the aircraft but has little effect on direction. They accepted this issue as the rudder isn’t really used for much other than stall turns. But it also means no change in handling with TAD switched off. I’m on the Hawk testing team so I’ll check back in about updates. But I think they’re waiting for more options in the MSFS CFD. Hope that answers a lot of the questions? Happy simming

RE: "Birds like water and airplanes don't like birds." We were staying onboard NAS Pensacola (Old Bronson Field, Blue Angel Recreation Park) and as a Dallas firefighter, I visited the crash house at Sherman Field. One of the buds scooped me up and we drove the field. It was part tour and part FOD policing. I don't know how he saw it, but my colleague spotted a .45 ACP casing. He stopped and picked it up. He then explained that the deer were a problem on the field (they were all over BAP where we were staying). He asked if I heard gun shots at night and I hadn't. He explained that there were watches where the personnel would patrol and fire a blank every time they saw a deer to chase it off. The impetus was a night recovery evolution and one of the last T-6As with a student and instructor had touched down and were past the commitment point when their landing lights illuminated a big doe on the runway. There was no avoiding and I asked him how the aviators were. He said, "Well, we totaled a deer, T-6 and two flight suits. But they were otherwise okay." The "..two flight suits." Made me nearly choke on my coffee. 😂

@@cgaviator RE: Big Creatures - 😂 The only time I heard my instructor raise his voice was when I was on short final into KADS and there was a giant jackrabbit off to the left of the threshold. He had to be 4' at the ears; I mean I saw him from just inside a mile. I guess I was locked in on him because my head lurched forward from a rim shot and my instructor said, "Land the plane!" I really appreciate when IRL users of the actual platform pass on instruction and insights such as flight models, etc. I allows us wannabes to appreciate the airframe more.

@@commander_shadow2444 disappointing! I was wondering if there was a way that it operates like a PC and you can copy files onto it? I guess they have it fairly well locked down

Hi can I just ask - why did you fly upside down to decend? Couldn’t you have just pushed the stick forwards?
@cgaviator
@cgaviator Жыл бұрын
You can do that but fighter pilots generally prefer to keep positive g on the jet for a few reasons. The oil system needs positive g to circulate the oil around the engine and keep the propellor pitch control full (the latter was an issue for Tucano). It also provides visibility under the aircraft if descending quickly. The human body is better at dealing with positive g over negative. And lastly because it’s fun! 😂 Sometimes in the sim I’m overly aggressive and if I’m inverted at low level then technically that’s illegal. If gentle flying at altitude, or IMC, then pushing is preferred. Hope that answers your question?

@@cgaviator Nice one, that makes sense, thanks so much for the explanation! One of the missions in MSFS Top Gun expansion does the same, flips over to decend and I was wondering why since doing that. Thanks again, you have an amazing channel here.

Very nice flight and quite close to home for me. Just bought the PC-21 and not studied all the manual yet, but how do you program in your flight plan to get the prompts in the UFCP?

They have very recently whitewashed the horse so it looks clean again. YAA is still based at Topcliffe and now the Air Training Corp winch launch gliders there.

Linton closed about 2yrs ago. Should have gone out of Leeming. You missed my house by the way. I live in snobby town just to the SW All of the main ground features are quite recognisable if you know the area. Especially the A19/A66 junction and Teesside Park shopping centre.

Absolutely amazing video. Loved how you came out of that final turn and Linton was bang on the nose. I have just started flying RPSimulations Tucano with RAF Livery. There's a lack of English speaking videos for that aircraft.
