Once again the native English speaker giving us tips on how to think about the Spanish in terms of English. This technique has helped me so much I feel like I'm finally getting over the hump that I've worried about for a couple of months now. Gracias maestro.
@QrooSpanish2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it is working for you. I believe that the problem with the majority of Spanish courses is that they ignore that the students already speak a language. That language is their paradigm and they will naturally compare the new language with their own. How is it similar? How is it different? I embrace the fact that the students already know a language -- in this case English. I use that existing knowledge to help them learn the new language faster and explain the tougher aspects of the language in a way that an English speaker will understand. I guess I teach this way because I learned it on my own and this is what worked for me.

@@QrooSpanish My Mexican husband speaks English well but still makes mistakes. I can tell from those mistakes how you say something in Spanish. I already speak Spanish but still make mistakes, and I use his mistakes to remind me of how you say some things in Spanish. So that perspective is very helpful! (I have a book somewhere called something like “French for English Speakers.”)

Hi Paul - I just want to say that the structure of your lessons is fantastic. In particular, the exercises in translating whole sentences is hugely beneficial as it requires you to draw upon things you've learned from other lessons and put it all together. As well as this, it is the true test of whether you have truly understood the concept being introduced. Keep up the good work!

Hi. Thank you for making your videos. They are very helpful indeed. The interactive exercises are very important for me. I cannot learn very much passively… and especially not a language! I have recently found your videos and they are encouraging to me to not let what I have learned thus far in Spanish go to waste, but to persist onward with Spanish. The excercises are very challenging and also helpful. It goes just a tad fast for me at this point, but that shows me what I need to work on, I guess…I am still learning off your videos, and this one in particular I found super helpful… Gracias, from a rusty Spanish language learner!

I love active listening exercises like what you did in this episode. One of my favorite channels offers this format almost exclusively. This means that I have a practiced hand in hitting the pause button and composing my response. Just listening while the teacher talks is great, but it doesn't require any thinking. Asking us to compose a response makes us think and gets our minds working. I think you have done a lot of hard work for a channel that people could not find. It was good work, but the thing about KZbin is the more hits comments and likes you get the more traffic gets driven to your site. I have really watched your channel take off, and you deserve it! Keep up the good work.
@QrooSpanish2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, Eric. It wouldn't be too difficult for me to incorporate exercises into the lessons. The hardest part is being quiet and still for a few seconds after saying a sentence -- I'm a bit attention deficit these days...lol. The sudden interest in this channel has certainly sparked my renewed interest in it as well. It has had over 190K views in the last 28 days. Last year at this time it had less than 8K.
@Der_Ermahner2 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, would you like to tell me which these favorite channels are? Thank you. Olli
@ericbaugher2 жыл бұрын
@@Der_Ermahner HI Oliver, I would like to be of help here, but please understand that in my opinion it is very rude to promote another channel in the comments section of someone's channel. Using the comments section of someone else's channel in extreme cases can get you thrown off KZbin. For example I, myself have reported channels which post comments that have knowing to do with the channel I am on that contain offensive material, or have people doing this. This being said, the guy who's channel I am talking about has a strong British accent and I think between 150,000 and 200,000 subscribers. Like I said his video content consists almost entirely of him asking "how would you say...". You can be sure you have found him because he puts his text on a trade mark blue background. I think a lot of people on here know who I am talking about. Just about any content you are interested in learning on KZbin can be found for you by KZbin. For example do a search on "Spanish verb conjugation" and you will come up with plenty of great channels. Be sure to hit the Like button for the channels you like and to subscribe and if you really love a channel even hit the notification button so that you can be one of the first to see the new videos when they come out, but then go back and look at the old play lists for the channel and watch videos that have been up for years. The magic of KZbin will do the rest. It will find other videos like the ones you like for you in the suggestions. What I like doing is making up my own little play lists of my favorite videos. Soon KZbin will find all the great channels for you and even channels that are new and have few subscribers. So anyway, don't want to be rude here and hope my tips have helped but I would rather not use the comments section of Paul's channel to promote someone else's channel but I want to wish you all the luck in the world with your quest to learn Spanish.

And I lived in Panama for 3 years as a kid, minored in Spanish literature in college, lived with a family in Columbia for 3 months, and have owned a home in Mexico for 11 years now visiting at least 3 months each year. And I NEVER got this right! The problem was that since present subjunctive is rarely used in English, I did not have the basic building blocks to use it in conversation. Plus, this is not used that often in classic Spanish literature. THANK YOU!!! Very excited!
