ABOUT ME🙋🏻‍♀️
I'm Christianne, a solo traveller, vlogger and entrepeneur from Surrey, UK. I spend half my time exploring new places around the globe with my backpack, and the other half creating videos about my experiences, what I'm packing, solo travel advice, money budgeting tips and anything else in relation to my backpacking lifestyle.

FAQ's
How do you afford to travel? - I now earn a full time living through creating these KZbin videos, affiliate links, selling digital products and my clothing line. I used to simply just work any temporary job I could find to save up to travel! I budget the money I earn meticulously to reach my savings goals using www.backpackingbananas.com/pr...
Is travelling solo safe? - I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government's guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

As a single 30yo Canadian guy I really appreciate this clip, but actually coming from the opposite perspective. My 20's were stable, living around home, working on skills, fitness and career, saving money and creating relationships. Now I'm looking to head out and backpack the world so I can look back and say I lived without that regret. Thank you for all of your content, and I hope this next chapter serves you well.

Honestly I really like this style of video. It's like having a little chit chat with friends. And also I can reflect what I've been doing the past year. I'm also turning 30 this year and still perfectly happy being single. It's quite freeing focusing on yourself and your own well-being and development instead of having to juggle a relationship next to what you really want to do. Imo you don’t need to change the channel name even if your content evolves :)

I’ve been following you for many years. I’m excited about the next chapter for you and to be included in the journey. This feels like a very natural progression. I honestly think it’s so wonderful that you will continue to do group trips as i and many others feel we have be traveling with you while you (solo) backpack for these years. Excited to snag a real life spot on a trip in the future!

Thank you for that update! Hope you feel better soon. It’s so important to look after yourself but also so hard. Glad to see you took that step for you!!! You can be so proud. I love watching your channel and it’s my number one favorite in traveling. Can’t wait for the Australia videos. Finally after watching you for many many years I’m going and how awesome and fitting 😅 I love your packing videos and they helped me in so many trips already. Going to portugal soon and then 6 months to Australia. Safety is so important. I want to start vlogging and doing instagram but I cannot stand the change of losing my privacy…. Maybe a little bit for later… we will see. Take as much time as you need! Thank you so much for your content and honesty ❤

I've been following you for a year now. I really like how you are in touch with your emotions and you purposely try to express it in a way that is relatable to many people. That feeling of achieving something big but not having the mental energy to answer friends or even enjoy it !!!! I'll add also the anxiety of having to continually do some tasks because if you procrastinate, you'll be late at one of the many responsabilities that cannot wait. That's how I feel and thanks for making me understand this emotion. hopefully, now I can deal with it and enjoy more my day to day, knowing it's ok to feel burnt out some times at how it actually feels like.

good on you for stopping and figuring out what you want and where you want life to go. Love your videos. My boys are turning 30 this year as well and I feel they are feeling the same as you. I think it is a milestone year and many people feel that what they are doing, weather it be work or travel is not all they want. They need a change. I think it is part of growing up or maybe even feeling incomplete... whatever it is one must work through it and figure it out if they dont want to have regret or be unhappy. So good for you and I cant wait to see what you come up with.

Re: not being productive while travelling, this is why I travel slow travel, 1-3 months at a time in a place and actually scheduling “holidays” around my work. I also book private rooms/ a studio apartment wherever I go. Dorm rooms and being around others too much also contributes to burn out. Been loving your Thailand videos, I’m blocking out November to backpack Thailand xx

I’m kind of the opposite with travel at the moment. I just turned 33 😭 and got to Australia last week to backpack for a couple months. I started solo backpacking when I was 28 and between COVID and a year long injury, I’m revving to go for travel. There’s so much I want to see. I feel like I’m trying to make up for lost time with needing to work a lot in my early-mid 20s and then COVID so I’m trying to travel as much as I can. But it’s tough because so many people my age are now settling down. I feel so lost and like I’m doing life wrong! I’m excited to see what’s to come with you and this channel because you were a huge reason why I finally started backpacking in 2018!

Also very interested in house chat as I hope to buy when back next year. Thanks also for the note about being happily single in your late-20s - I've been single for just over a year, and I have so few single pals now, so it's good to hear your perspective on it. I can relate to your burnout experience. Having already gone through 2 massive ones trying to juggle my day job with a side hustle it thought me to recognize the signs leading up to one. So this year when I went backpacking in Colombia for 3 months while working remotely while also shooting for KZbin I was tired constantly and had to take time off every few weeks to just relax somewhere and not feel like I have to record videos. Honestly, I can`t believe you were able to keep it up for so long, it`s so exhausting! Well, I`m also not super young anymore 😁 so that adds up! hope you got enough rest and please keep in mid to regularly take time off. KZbin can wait!

I love my Invisalign! It did actually help me cut back im drinking dark sodas and coffees as well as less snacking so I’m not sticking my fingers in my mouth at the office every time I want to snack on some sweets! Haha so all good side effects actually! It’s a bit pricy but 0 pain and it quickly becomes your routine and you almost miss them once it’s over haha! Hope that helps! Invisalign was the best decision of my life! It did stop me from snacking (which wasn’t a bad thing)😂 it also isn’t as big of a inconvenience as you think taking it out to eat/drink it just becomes part of your routine! It only took 7 months to close a large gap in my front teeth, minimal pain and hardly anyone even noticed them in which was a massive win for me🥰

I can understand that so well! I went to Australia and NZ from sept '19 to last July, came home to germany, spent 3 days with family and then went on a 4 week road with my bf, was back home for 3 days and moved to a job in austria. I only stayed there for 3 weeks and it was soo hard, it didnt work out between me and the company so I had to find a new job asap as its the wine industry and harvest had started. I found a new job immediately and had 3 days off to move from the east of austria to the west of germany. I worked 4 weeks straight, a lot of hrs, developed depressions and decided its time to move back home to my parents for a bit where I (maybe not the smartest move) got another job for 2 months. But moving back to my parents felt like I needed it soo much for different reasons but also because I hadnt really spent time with them since coming back in summer. I am backpacking since 3 months again haha but also really looking forward to german summer, moving to a flatshare (thats a big thing in germany) and starting an apprenticeship, even though that always felt like giving up my freedom.

I relate to this so much. My dream was to see the world and after I turned 18 in 2022, I left and backpacked before moving across the world to start university. I left my home in the suburbs 1 year ago (May 3, 2022) and went to so many new places. I am so thankful and proud that I worked to make this life a reality. But lately all I have wanted is to go home and see my family. I want to sleep in my own bed and not feel anxious about being in a place that speaks a foreign language and having strangers as roommates. I’m going to be spending this entire summer back at home (working cause I’m broke af) and I can’t wait! Hopefully in the fall, the traveler in me will come back with a little bit of wanderlust (and maybe a few more $$$ in my pocket 💀).

Yesss, diversifying your brand(s) is sooo important! Looking forward to see what you come up with! Personally I wouldn't change the channel name. I would start a new separate brand focusing on everything you mentioned(doubling your existing audience base + maybe income), dating, travelling, homebuying, change of pace, clothing line, short trips in UK, Spa weekends, hikes, etc... sooo much UK vlog/travel content you can do on the new channel and keep BB as your authentic old school channel when you get bored of everything I mentioned above. Anyway, just my 2pence, good luck with the next chapter however you choose to go about developing it.

I absolutely recommend Invisalign! I had them for 6 months last year and it was best thing I've ever done. There was no pain or discomfort really (compared to the fixed braces I had when I was a teen) but they took some getting used to for sure, with taking them in and out as you have to brush your teeth after every time you eat then pop them back in right away. A bit annoying when you're out and about (I brushed my teeth sat on beaches... on trains... on planes... at festivals... I became so unapologetic about it hahaha), but I got used to it pretty quickly and it's only for the short term, for long term gain! And so worth the ££££ cost in my opinion. Much love and big admiration for you listening to what you need re. burnout - I get it, I'm also a video editor! x

Honest video Christianne - Good to see you are taking time out for yourself. End of an era and you are starting a new chapter of your life. You will still travel but on a much reduced basis as other "life" matters are now your priority. Back in the real world if you like ( that isn't being negative btw :) You have lived the dream travelling and experienced moments, countries, things and everything else that goes with it - the majority of people on this channel would bite your hand off to have done what you have. Appreciate the simple things in life and spending time with family and friends. Health is everything. Remember keep your private life just that - don't' feel pressured into thinking you have to create videos all the time. Looking forward to the Aus series!!! All the best with what comes next.

58 and got Invisaligns August 2022. Love them. The first rub then all good. I change fortnightly. I chew at night so they protect my teeth too. I had overcrowding top and bottom with a slight overbite. In Australia we have cheeper ones like smile direct, if you don't need to have the branded ones, but I don't know if their materials fit as well, rub, are faster and so more painful. I can just say my daughter (Invisaligns 2019) and myself with 3 months left to go had positive experiences. 😁

I can totally relate! I feel like I am at a similar point in life where I start to question if backpacking is really the most important thing for me. I do love it and want to keep doing it. However I might have to accept that it hasn't the same priority anymore. Backpacking does interfere with my dating and home life more and more. I feel like my friends have settled down while I still run around like a headless chicken.

Totally get this! I'm also home after a year-long trip of travel through Latin America + content creation and I was beginning to feel very unappreciative of the experiences. Like... "Yay, another Spanish colonial town!" Always a good idea to reset the mindset. Best of luck with everything going forward. 🙂

Yes to constantly evolving anc changing what you're focusing on. I'm 30 and was hustling and focused on my career since 15(not that I got very far haaha) but quit now and looking into online jobs so I can travel more, surf, explore, move to Bali... all in our own time🙏 Invisalign is amazing. You get used to eating a bit less because you don't wanna take it on and off and you join coffee in that same time as eating so you don't have to keep washing your teeth etainers. It's annoying-yes, but you do get used to it :) And at the end when you have your retainer for 1 or 2 weeks only before swappin you stop caring and you drink with it (sometimes even eat, rebel!) as long as its not veery hot so it doesn't distort it you'll be fineeee! I used to walk around collecting food like a lil hamster so I could eat it all in that time slot. And them, some days you wanna just live and eat-you dont wear it and , sorry dentists, you put it back in next day and all is fine. 🤭go for it!

great video❤️ good that you realized what you needed and have the freedom in your life to go about it in such a healing way❤️ i did invisalign, for me it took about 8 months.. my eating habits changed a lot, absolutely no snacking, only my three meals a day. also, only drinking water and reducing coffee. for coffee you have to take it out bc the heat could deform the braces, and then you need to brush you teeth after the coffee. but you should also wait for at least 15 mins with brushing as the acidity in the coffee might soften your protective layer on your theeth and brushing then would make it worse… so yeah.. a lot to consider, but might also help to restructure your eating/drinking habits, and if you look at it as a health challenge whilst getting a pretty smile…. 😊

A few things to answer some of your questions/content in this video: 1. I had the same issue with my teeth, overcrowding of my bottom front teeth. This started happening when I was 22. I got invisalign and I only had it for 10 months (September 2021-July 2022), and once the invisalign was removed I was given a permanent metal bar on the back of my bottom teeth, and I wear a retainer while sleeping at night for my top teeth (bite issue...). I also tend to snack a bit and go out for coffee/tea, when you take your invisalign out to eat, drink coffee, etc., you only have it out for a short amount of time, so in reality, your teeth aren't going to shift too much in that period of time. The big thing is that you wear the trays majority of the time (when sleeping and not eating). And just be aware not to have them out for too long when eating/drinking, so just limiting yourself with how long you have them out for. I found this to be quite easy. 2. I am 100% down for group trips! Especially a ski trip! None of my friends ski or snowboard and I wanna go to the mountains all winter long, but I have no one to go with... I have been contemplating booking the Contiki ski trip in Austria, but have never gotten around to it. Also, a music festival group trip would be fun! Just a suggestion! Looking forward to what you have coming up!

One thing to bear in mind about invisalign is that it is slow. I had overlapping bottom teeth and got train track braces to sort it out instead. My boss had invisalign and tended to stick to eating three times a day due to the cleaning issues. She didn't have any of the office snacks!

I was just thinking about how you might have a burnt out soon a few weeks ago. I’ve known so many full time travelers, I myself traveled most of my 20’s nonstop and I think pretty much everyone gets to a point where there is need for more balance. Traveling is amazing but if you stop feeling that “wow” that’s when you need to rethink the way you approach it. I was 28 when that happened and also had never had a real partner til then, all my relationships where a bit short lived because of this, but when I started living in my city, dating and all things slowed down, I now have a partner (4years) and I do still travel, just much more selectively and with a home base. This will be great for you, just allow yourself to rest, feel your feelings and you’ll see that even your creativity will benefit from it.

I wore Invisalign for 1 year and I only wore it at night. I know that’s not how you are supposed to do it but I just used each set a week longer and it was totally fine. I think I was supposed to have it for about 8 months but because I was doing it only at night it took a big longer. I don’t regret it. It was so nice to not have to worry about taking it out when eating (I eat all the time too) and also to not speak with a lisp. I would say go for it! Best decision I ever made. Name inspo: Christianne Bananas- it takes the enfaces of the backpacking, makes it personal because it has your name so it can really be about anything you get yourself into (it can evolve with you) but keeps on brand with the word bananas. Everyone who knows your channel will recognize Christianne Bananas from the Backpacking Bananas, keeping it alive.

Invisalign....its awesome! You get used to taking it in and out. It's very quick and easy. It does make you snack less though, which is great ..honestly😂... it makes you concider what your eating. It didnt hardly gave me any discomfort, just slightly achey when you put in the next tray.

I got to the end. I thought you would say to anyone who got to the end, bananas. I end up doing that and people comment in the comments with the word. Smile. Thank you so much for the update, it sounds like there is so much happening and you have to take time for you. I'm glad that you are doing that and listening to your body. Such exciting times. I very much would be interested in a group exhibition. I'm totally blind, but I'm active, and I live life to the fall, it's not easy going it alone, so group packages would be awesome. Plus, just another thought, have you thought about incorporating charity work within a group setting so go over to India for a couple of weeks or however long it is, I'm doing some charity program while enjoying the culture and beauty of the country, or whatever country it happens to be. I would be interested in that as well. If you have any great ideas with programs that are already out there I can go to please ping them my way. Love you girl. Seeing your channel grow from strength to strength is so heartwarming. Take care of yourself. X

Invisalign can be really painful for the first couple of months you wear them, especially when taking them in and out. I’ve heard a lot of people say that they eat less than usual during that beginning period because it just didn’t feel worth the pain of taking out the Invisalign for a snack😂 most people I know have been happy with their experiences. However, I had a lot of history with orthodontics (two sets of braces before trying Invisalign years later) and it was the most painful part of my whole ortho journey. I ended up needing a root canal on one of my front teeth because it died shortly after beginning my Invisalign. I can’t technically prove that it was related to starting Invisalign, but I was experiencing extreme pain, and was just told to take ibuprofen and continue wearing them. I believe that the specific angle of my teeth (they push outwards) made it more difficult to shift appropriately with Invisalign. Not to scare you, but I just wanted to say that there are a lot of good and bad experiences with Invisalign to be considered!

Do you think that you would be more interested in becoming a slow traveling nomad than a backpacker? I've been a nomad for a few years and the pace is clutch for me to combat burnout. I can't move constantly because of burnout, but I also can't stay in the same place too long because it gets 'boring', but more meaningful relationships are easier to make the longer I stay in one place. I have settled on 2-3 months in each place.
@BackpackingBananas

That definitely would suit more than the fast travelling, this is what I did in 2020 and it was great. But it’s not the lifestyle I’m after atm ☺️
