I had a number of WeedEater brand trimmers for a couple of years as they were easy to get a hold of, were effective on most of my mowing in the beginning and relatively simple to fix. I then invested in an MTD TrimmerPlus 4-Stroke Craftsman branded straight shaft, used it for a few more years, then used a 2 stroke Ryobi for a little longer and then I invested in my Echo PAS-2620 with a trimmer and leaf blower attachment and have since added a number of attachments to it. I also acquired my Uncle's old Honda GX25 powered unit, put an Echo SpeedFeed head on it and it's more or less my main trimmer at the moment.

Yes,I was repairing a Stihl leaf blower for a nursing home that my auntie & dad was working at a few years ago & it wouldn't Kill the engine so I pulled it apart & cleaned it out which fixed the problem. The air filter also should really be fitted when adjusting the carburettor & having that guard & line cutter in place makes it a lot easier as well because the engine may tend to labour without it !
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE Жыл бұрын
it's true however the filter is just a thin piece of foam that barely filter the air aside from affecting the air flow.

I have one those exact trimmers with the straight shaft and everything. I love it. I got it as a trash pick and rebuilt the carb. I never touch the throttle or primer bulb to start it. I choke it, pull it until it barks, open the choke and it will start and usually idle. Something that these trimmers have over their electric counterparts is that gas trimmers don't automatically put line out whenever you pull the trigger.

I have an old “Wallyworld” sourced Weedeater I bought the spring after we purchase our first house in the spring of 2000. I used it until around 2016 or so before I replaced it with a new, higher end (not box store) machine when the rebuilt carburetor gave up. Few years later, I took it out of storage and replaced a few parts and got it back in working order just for kicks and a little project. My father inlaw has the exact machine featured here that is still in regular use during the growing season. They might have been cheap machines, but the can last a long time if serviced and not abused.

We used these for years, mainly because they were freebies and did the job. If they were tuned right they had plenty of power and IF I couldn't tune one I'd get a kit for it. Son-in-law is still running them and my old Echo.And when it's time to switch modes, it's just time. Always a tradeoff. Blessings

Very nice video! Love the section where you adjusted the L and H screws. I have had one of these Weedeater trimmers for a number of years. The only time it wouldn’t run was because i mixed too much oil with the gas. The muffler clogged up. I had to take off the muffler and torch it to burn it clean. Then it ran perfectly again. Now i buy pre-mixed 40:1 fuel.

I myself did this as well. I tried electric. Went all out, and it didn't have enough power, last as long, and recharge time took the longest. So I went back to gas. I made sure this time going back to gas I was going to stop being lazy and even get the wife involved in the maintenance as I can train her on more stuff about the business and how to take care of things. Makes me love my equipment even more.

My mom has a 130BT Husqvarna blower. It is 15 years old, and I have put three kill switches on it over the years. It needs a new one right now. She uses it every day, and it has a ton of hours on it. They just wear out sometimes. When they wear out, hers tend to lock in the stop position and do not spring back as they should. It can become a pain if you do not remember and forget to manually move them back into the run position. The parts store will tell me that the switch is part of the trigger assembly and the entire part has to replaced. I just take the switch in there by itself, and they match it up every time.
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 4 ай бұрын
wow, why does she use it so much? I use mine probably every 3 to 4 day, but that's because I use on my projects and my lawn.

I have had a case with an MTD trimmer where the "STOP" function was not working well, so I replaced the switch. I have not seen this before, but it's definitely something that I will keep in mind. And as for not rebuilding the carb or replacing the fuel lines on this one, your customer chose this because it would be an inexpensive purchase. If you sunk another hour of your time into carb & fuel line work, then it would be reasonable to expect a higher price, but with a Weedeater trimmer, you might end up with a price that would make it difficult to sell.

A year or two ago, I had to replace 3 or 4 of the rocker switches. They were too cheap on Amazon, so I just got a 10pk of them. Of course, they are more designed for controlling a light, etc, so the user had to remember that "off was on" and "on was off". I did use a label maker to put labels on a couple of them, but generally, just explained to the buyer that I had to change the switch out. Never tried to take one apart to fix it. interesting to see what is inside!

I've had a few switches not work to stop the machine, fixed those issues by cleaning the contacts inside the switch, but I've never had a switch go closed by itself..perhaps you got water in it when you washed down the machine, since the switch worked fine before the soaking, it probably only needed the dry out step you did while you had it in pieces. Fitting an air filter element to the filter housing would be a good idea before selling a machine, it was missing the filter in the video👍

My fairly new Echo hc2210's switch sometimes doesn't work to turn it off, then when it is in the off position, it will start. It should be covered under warranty, but that requires it to act up at the dealership when they diagnose it. If it works fine for them, I have to pay the diagnostic fee because it won't be covered under warranty. That fee is WAY more than the part so I will just fix it myself (and that will be when I go to use it, and it wont start because the on position is acting up. Fixing it now would only make sense, but...)
