Thanks for all the comments about the wall hook 😆 I promise it’s fine for now (I’m in california for another week) but I’ll fix it as soon as I’m back!

I think the reason for the front straps on the moss poles are to hook your stem to the pole instead of using tape

Okay i ordered some, just wanted to try, even tho i am stocked on moss poles atm lol. I love the idea of a front closing moss pole, it’s like a lazy pole 2.0. But I have tried a few of the thiccly brand ones, and those buckles are soooo damned fiddly! I just wish they were a little longer so it has some give. My sp. Columbia (yes its climbing) its stem is getting so thick its really really challenging getting the buckle over the next node. So hopefully these ones are a little more user friendly? I haven’t even watched the whole video yet. But I’ve seen @wildfern using these for awhile now so, were giving it a go!!

for the rousseau poles the front straps are supposed to keep the stem in place and in contact with the moss. You could even place the stem on top of the moss before closing the pole up if you wanted to 🙂

I think that fern has one of these Rousseau poles. She’s got something that resembles this and she’s got something she has high on the wall where it gets more sun and to water it she just grabs the pole and lifts the whole thing down and then lifts it back up on the wall.

I think that if ever I get a second pole here I’m going to go for a Rousseau pole with a closed back. My one pole leaks out the back when I water it. I have to tilt it backwards since it leans forward in the pot. Or if I do t then it leaks out the front. It’s not an ideal situation. But I’m willing to try something else.

Those hooks are fantastic for hanging things in drywall. But, I agree with some of the others, it is not far enough into the wall and is also upside down. Other than that, your glorious looks glorious !

Is it maybe because of the no drainage? I'm growing in drainage and always let my poles touch the bottom of the pot (and fill with potting mix everything buried) for stability 🤔

You could tie the leafs to the pole like sydneyplantguy then no bare spots
@imoan1976

There's no roots in the moss pole because you didn't use moss. You could have easily cut the plant in 2 equal pieces and then potted them up on a 'moss' pole, strapped the stems to the pole with clear bag or tape to encourage the roots to grow into the moss pole, kept it very moist for a few weeks and you would've had a much better result :) you may have had one or 2 smaller leaves but after that it would go back to larger leaves.

The concept of moss poles also works with other substrates like coco chips or potting mix. As long as it stays moist and doesn't fall out of the pole structure 😅

@melanieg.9092 i've had such robust root growth in poles using moss+TFF or a soil mix like you said! after using only moss for years, i would never do it again. dries out super fast and hard to untangle if you want to remove the roots from the pole 😵‍💫

@@unplantparenthood I'm still keeping with moss for my most precious plants but with some others I experiment with a 2:1 Coco coir and coco chips mixture right now, we'll see 😅👍

Wrap Velcro around the pit, holding it to the base. Otherwise it’s not attached to anything.

Gah... you used a non drainage pot. Moss poles need to be flushed through and kept moist for plants to thrive on moss poles, no way you can keep that pole wet with a no drainage pot. You'll just get root rot :( I screamed at you so many times during this video but each to their own, everyone does things differently I suppose.... but there's an old saying 'work smarter not harder' 😢

I use a moss/tree fern fiber mix for all my poles with lots of success (in a no drainage vessel). This particular plant has been severely neglected over the past few months since I’ve been pregnant. But I grew this plant from a small specimen using the same growing method and you can see how large it’s grown since then. Also I’m pretty sure you’re new to my channel because 80% of my collection is in no drainage and it’s my preferred growing choice that I’ve had the most success with over the last 10+ years. So yes like you said, to each their own!
