A Vespa Merry Christmas!

As Christmas approaches I want to wish each of you my best wishes for a fine holiday. Wherever you are, and however you celebrate the season, I hope you find time to reflect on the good things in your life and the gifts to come.
And if you're riding your Vespa scooter, a motorcycle, or anything else on two wheels, be well and ride safe!

Stumbled upon your channel and I'm so glad i did. Just a very enjoyable relaxing channel you create. I now travel in my RV full time so my Honda Goldwing 1800 had to go and i bought a 2023 Honda ADV150 scooter to carry on the back. It's so much fun! For a 150cc scooter I'm surprised how fast it is from traffic lights to about 45mph. It tops out at 67mph. Now i see the enjoyment in owning a scooter. Thank you Steve. Have a wonderful Christmas.

My first Vespa scooter was an LX150. I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was to ride and how far it could take me. I had many memorable adventures on that scooter. Thank you Andy. And thanks for the great opening and closing graphics. They helped to introduce the seasonal spirit. For some time I thought I could juggle shooting still photos and writing with making videos. I can't. So my still image production has declined dramatically. When I started looking at all the Vespa snow pictures I remembered how focused I was on capturing the feel of being out in the cold and snow. Perhaps in the New Year I'll figure out how to marry the two! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I'm no longer riding when there is snow on the road. My aging body doesn't need anything to speed along its decline. But when the pavement is clear I expect there will be many riding opportunities through the winter. The Himalayan is patiently waiting for its time in front of the camera. The W650 and Vespa ET4 are ahead of it in live!

Beautiful images, Steve! It was seeing those images you posted on Modern Vespa years ago that led me to your KZbin channel. While I appreciate the mood, the thought of actually riding in the snow makes my hind end pucker up... TMI? Merry Christmas!

For a long time I was pretty fearless when it came to riding in snow. The Vespa was the right vehicle and many options of lightly traveled roads made it reasonably safe from other vehicles. But my desire to venture out into the snow is gone. On two wheels and on foot. Much to the chagrin of the dogs. Maybe I'll acclimate but right now my whole body puckers at the thought. I get that, Steve - the photos of your Vespa in the snow are lovely. We moved from a sub-tropical climate in south Texas to the southwest desert... from one warm climate to another. We spent plenty of years in the frozen northland (in the Black Hills of South Dakota) - a great place to ride in the summer, but too much cold and snow for this former island boy. Our daughter moved to Phoenix because she "never wanted to shovel snow again." She gets that from me. ;-) Stay warm - happy holidays!

My snowy riding has decreased dramatically. Not commuting to work now that I'm retired helped. And at almost 70 years old I see the folly of a drop on the pavement. It's really hard! Thanks for your kind words and watching.

The cold and snow looks nice but can be a challenge. I was riding my W650 yesterday in cold, damp weather (42F) and I felt hypothermia creeping my way by the time I got home. I was underdressed for the ride. Bad judgement on my part. Regardless, it hasn't darkened my holiday spirit! Best wishes to you for the season.

Merry Christmas 🎄 Steve. I don’t drive in the winter here in Denmark 🇩🇰 because they put a lot of salt in the roads. Not so good for a Vespa.

I know what you mean about salt. More and more they use a liquid "salt" that they put down before it snows. But they still use salt and grit when there is snow on the road. I won't ride my ET4 or motorcycles in that but the GTS has already been baptized with salt. It does have an effect on the finish of the mechanical parts. And any bare metal. But the paint has held up surprisingly well except underneath where rocks and gravel wore the paint off. I had the underside repainted to ward off rust.

Merry Christmas Steve! I just bought a new to me GtS300!! Love your videos and your wisdom and demeanor. Calm and sure! If you would, share which Givi top case you use. Thank you for the kind words about my videos. I appreciate them and am glad you find some enjoyment watching. And congratulations on your acquisition of a GTS300. A fine scooter. Regarding my top case, it is a GIVI E370. You can read more about it on my blog at the URL below: scooterinthesticks.com/2011/04/givi-e370-topcase-for-vespa/ I'm not sure if they still make that particular one but I'm sure they probably have something similar in the 39 liter capacity range. I never liked the looks of the top case but I can't argue with the utility!

I thank you for your reply! I agree that the box spoils the look of the classic Vespa. I’ve owned 2 BMW R1200RTs, both with top cases, and disliked them greatly. But, they detached easily, and I think the Givi will as well. Just the plate on the tail would be ok! Looking forward to seeing more videos from you next year, and I wish I had a breakfast place like yours! Makes me hungry. Happy New Year!

@@jerbunch The GIVI box detaches easily. And the remaining plate isn’t hideous. So that’s a plus. More videos as long as I keep riding! Have a good holiday.
