Hello Hanna; Over the years, you have shown viewers in the VC an amazing ability to find records & CD's for your collection. Keeping your focus while shopping at numerous stores & record shows. Patience is a virtue when it comes to searching for needed vinyl. Always good to hear when you find '' Grails" high up on the want list. The videos have been informative & educational which add to the overall presentation. Take care, Tina & Pat!~

Tina and Pat! Hello! Patience is definitely a virtue when going on this vinyl journey! It's crazy how long these had been sitting in a separate pile waiting for this video to be filmed! Glad I finally accomplished that. Now onto the next! Hope you're having a great week!

Hi Hanna, welcome back, I never tire of seeing your amazing collection! The Chameleons are one of my faves from the 80s, also the Church, the Cure, Siouxsie, Clan of Xymox, and almost everything else you showed. But what really stood out for me was when you showed Death of Samantha. In1985, I saw The Jesus and Mary Chain with DOS and another Cleveland band, Shadow of Fear, as opening acts. The best part of the show was the two opening bands, because JAMC were so loud, I couldn't even make out what song they were playing. If you would like to explore more Cleveland based bands from the 80s, I would suggest the following: New Salem Witch Hunters (Jangle pop), Shadow of Fear (Goth), Rainy Day Saints (60s inspired garage rock), The Reactions (more 60s style garage rock), Easter Monkeys (Punk) and Spike in Vein (Noisy punk). Thanks for showing your amazing grails!
@TheOmahaIntrovertАй бұрын
I appreciate your comment! Thank you for welcoming me back, and I'm happy you enjoyed seeing these grails! Oh my goodness! That is too amazing that you saw Death of Samantha with JAMC!!! No way! We just saw JAMC last month with Psychedelic Furs. It was incredible! Whoa, you are the designated Cleveland bands expert, my friend! I haven't heard of many of these. Thank you! Gonna have fun checking each one out! Bonus points for putting the genre next to the bands, too! Always appreciate recommendations! Cheers!

Great video Hanna! Lots of cool records. These were the ones that got my attention as the power pop fan I am: Scruffs (jealous)! Church! The Sound, love Jeapardy, was lucky to find an original of that album a couple of years ago. Wire! Lovely! I use to play Outdoor miner when I have DJ gigs, which I got on 45. Heaven’s End sounds interesting. The Chameleons, need their debut album. Death Of Samantha sounds interesting too!

Hi Hanna - I'm a fan of a lot of the records you showed. That was a lot of records and CDs. Recent grails I've picked up? Gosh, I'm not sure if it's a grail but I did recently get Love's "Four Sail" album which, surprisingly, has turned out to be e my favorite Love album. I love listening to Arther Lee records and thinking about my cynicism. Welcome back - I missed the comeback video that you referenced in the preamble but I can probably find it now. Thanks for showing the records!

Hi there, Randy! Hope your week got off to an excellent start! Haha, yeah, I really shouldn't have stockpiled all these for one single video. It was a bit difficult to put together! It was a fun one, though! Oh, I love Four Sail by Love, too! Brilliant. I got a reissue of it (green vinyl) a year or two ago. I was impressed when I first heard it as well! I still think their first LP is my favorite due to the heavy Byrds influence! Cool, I hope you were able to check out my last video! Good to be back! Cheers!

Hey Hanna, great video - glad to see you back. Love the Medicine LP - One of the more experimental bands on Creation (where LP first released) - second LP also great. Amazingly, the band is still going (well guitarist Brad Laner, anyhow), still releasing new LPs via Bandcamp. Maybe less melodic/rhythmic, even more experimental, but worth checking out. Loved the Loop too! (in that vein you might want to check out Scottish Indie band, Halo Noose - there Magic Flight EP was on bandcamp as a 12" Same sort of feel as prime Loop). Greatly enjoyed the video - keep going!

Hi Luke! Thank you for the encouragement! I hope to make 2-3 more videos before the end of the year! Yeah, Medicine are so underrated! I'd love to also find the Buried Life on vinyl. YES! Please do an updated top artists list (20-25 or longer lol). I was going to comment that on your last video but didn’t want to come off as demanding hahahahaha. I just recently picked up an Original U.S. pressing of Script os a Bridge by The Chameleons. I have Fan and The Bellows on CD. That IS one excellent collection of their early stuff. I would Love to find Fear by Toad on vinyl. Any idea if that has been reissued? I'm sure that OG set you back a pretty penny. And of course The Church! They are my favorite band of all time. Wish they would press all their albums on vinyl from Hologram of Baal through to Uninvited Like the Clouds.
@TheOmahaIntrovertАй бұрын
Oh my goodness! One heckuva find with that OG you got of Script of the Bridge. I don't think I've ever seen an OG of that one. I think mine is the 2014 (?) reissue. Unfortunately, Fear by Toad has not been reissued yet. I believe only Dulcinea has been reissued. Luckily, I traded in a bunch of stuff for Fear, so it didn't hurt! And I second your wish that the Church would reissue that particular era in their discography. Also, I really want Untitled 23 on vinyl! Later!

I really enjoyed that video. Thanks for the heads up on The Sound reissues.The first two albums are probably my favorite. I just don't understand how we don't have Toad the Wet Sprocket reissues on vinyl. Their sound is just made for vinyl. Head Through the Door is probably one of my most played Cure albums and Sinking is such a hidden gem. One of my hardest grails to find is The Soundtrack to Doom Generation. Apparently it has been on vinyl but I have yet to see any copies for sale anywhere. With bands like Curve,Cocteau Twins, Medicine, Wolfgang Press, Love and Rockets, Slowdive, Lush etc. it is my White Whale. I play my cd copy constantly.

It's kind of weird someone separated it and then traded it in, but I got lucky, I guess. I just looked up the soundtrack to Doom Generation, and wow, what amazing tracks! You’re very enjoyable, as always. I personally don’t have any “holy grails”, as I hate using that expression …but I do have records (and other things) that I’m searching for that I’d really like to own, and can share in the emotional euphoria of finally obtaining it/them. I am curious, though, about that “Shake Some Action” power pop book; does it include some bands / groups on the Douchemaster Records roster from the mid 00s, to early 10s? Not that it’s a make or break determinate, but it would be cool if it did.

Aww, thank you for the kind words, as always. I'm not really a fan of the "holy grail" expression, either, but it's the term that's commonly used in this community, so I went with it! I love that Sonic Youth "Washing Machine" album. I found a copy of that one on Marketplace almost exactly one year ago that had only been played maybe once, but the seller had an amazingly fair price on it. Definitely one of my favorite purchases of 2023. $20 for The Sound is quite a deal. I also picked up a copy of Head on the Door last year about the same time, but I don't remember anything about the purchase except for being surprised at the price. Now, it was a reissue, but it sounds amazing, so I'm happy with it. Great job finding the Dead Can Dance albums. I've ran into their albums enough times here in Canada, but as much as I love them, I think they always seem sellers ask a bit too much for them considering that they are not that tough to find. I may just end up ordering them online as the prices from some vendors are fair enough. I do have to get them on vinyl though, one way or another. Love that Cocteau Twins box set, I'll be on the lookout for that one. Wow, this was definitely a video full of grails! Nice job!

Hey there! So cool that you also found an OG of Washing Machine for a great price! One of the best albums! Interesting that you run into Dead Can Dance albums regularly up in Canada. I never run into their stuff here. I found an original of the Serpent's Egg at a store in rural Missouri a few years ago for a great price. Now, the Cocteau Twins CD box of their EPs is probably a little tough to get, but I love it! Cheers!

Great scores, we have nearly all of those in our collection! Moose is a band that should be talked about more often! The Church may be our favorite band, and they’re how my wife and I met so will always be special for us. We have the OG German blue cover of Séance, as well as the OG OZ press, we’re a bit obsessed. And the Scuffs lp is considered an absolute grail in our house as well, maybe my favorite power pop album just behind Big Star. That is amazing you got that Sound lp from Permanent records. That is one of our favorite local shops we go to frequently, and we got that exact Sound LP at Permanent about 3-4 years ago in person! They always have grails, you would love it. We just went a few weeks ago and scored one of our most epic grails ever, THE power pop grail, at least to us. An OG Chris Bell "I Am The Cosmos" 7" on Car records. Happy digging!

Hey Hannah. Some absolute gems, well done. I think All Fall Down is such an underrated album, it’s one of my fave Sound albums Monument…what a track! Great Jam pickups…I think Paul Weller reflected in an interview with BBC that he thought Sound Affects was the Jam’s most complete album ( it’s a 5 star album for me). I agree with you about the drum sound on Seance, I think it really dates the album but the songwriting is still strong (the band are about to do a series of greatest hits shows in Oz starting this weekend - will a be a long show). I don’t know the Chameleons compilation you showed but I have OG’s of all of their stuff - they are prized possessions. A great haul Hannah, your collection is amazing.

Brett! Thank for for the awesome comment! Love that All Fall Down is your favorite Sound record. It definitely doesn't get enough kudos. I'm with you on Sound Affects being a 5-star album. I found that Loop album on CD back when I first got a CD player. We were in a shop that had nothing whatsoever to do with music. I can't remember what they did sell, but they had 6 CDs in a box, and that one was amongst them. The staff couldn't believe I bought that one rather than the ones by artists they'd actually heard of. I think they may have played some of it, and couldn't believe anyone would actually want it! I could never get into New Order, I'm afraid. When the record shop I worked in for 30 years finally went out of business, we had so much of that stuff, and more in stock, but vinyl was dead.

Hi Hanna! Great start! Love Veruca Salt - I do have the CD! ...I had the Scruffs LP in my 1st LP collection - another one I wish I still had! ...Besides powerpop and "classic" rock released in the 80's I never cared much for 80's rock - especially that strange genre they call "post" rock (even though rock is not "post" yet) In fact, I just found a NM Government Mule double LP, "Like A River" released in 2023 (German import) at our local co-op ($15) which sounds just like the 70's rock I love! ...I probably would like that Heaven's End LP you showed since I do like space-rock! ...I loved old school punk but even back then Crass was too "crass" for me... Many of the other LPs you showed I never heard of - when I come upon that odd/unknown stuff (to me) cheap and I don't care for it after buying I do have a customer I can sell it to. Interesting video, though!

Wow, Death Of Samantha! That's a total trip -- I used to play them on my post-punk show, but they were never reissued on CD that I know of, and forgot about 'em. Definitely a fun band, I imagined how Rocket from the Tombs would have turned out if Laughner didn't die and they didn't split into Pere Ubu and the Dead Boys. My friend Kristen Pfaff had all the Crass albums and guested on my show a couple times and played songs from them. She went on to be in Janitor Joe and then fell into Courtney Love's heroin Hole, tragically. Happy to help re Sound reissues! I searched for the original records for half a decade before finding them at various used shops in the Twin Cities in the late 80s so I could play 'em on my show. Once Renascent put out the first ever CD editions in the 00s, I sold the records, oops! So I have them pre-ordered, along with colored vinyl reissue of the Magazine albums that came out Friday. I really like the bookback format of CD box sets of things like The Jazz Butcher, Pere Ubu and Dream Syndicate. I got the Talking Heads:77 set on Rhino that came out a week ago, but didn't realize it was going to be huge coffeetable size. I'll have to keep it with the records!

Some great records there. I love Moose. They played Oxford, UK quite a few times in their early days (Jack / Suzanne era) and were amazing. The last Oxford Moose show I went to The Cranberries supported them. There must have been around 50 people in attendance. Their best show was the three-way headline show in London with Blur and Lush. Loop - very underrated. You're right about the sound quality on that record. The 2012 reissue sounds a lot better. Those MBV 12"!!!!!! I'm so glad I still have my copies because they go for stupid prices now. So rare and hard to find now. You're lucky you found them. I'd also like to add that both those 12"s are rare in a way that every track is amazing - no throw away tracks, dodgy cover versions or a live track, that sadly happened to a lot of 12" singles back then.

Thanks for being here once again, Mike! I'll have to check out the Radio 1 Evening Show Sessions. Are they different than the John Peel Sessions? I have the John Peel Sessions on CD. Cheers!

@ Yeah. The Peel Sessions are early and the Evening Show are around the Bridge album.

Great video Hannah I had do they owe us a living by crass on in the car the other day and my daughters were saying what the hell is that 🤣🤣 Have you still not been tempted by 7 inch vinyl ? I have gone completely in that direction of late Dan (Leeds England)

Hi Dan! Thank you for being here! Haha, love that you played Crass in the car so your daughters could hear it! To answer your question, luckily, I haven't had the urge to collect 7" or 12" singles yet. I feel like the hobby is expensive enough in collecting LPs, so I'm going to continue to stay in that lane for now! Hope you're finding some great singles! Cheers!
