I have about 10 lighters including some nicer cigar lighters that are brand name with cutters or punches on them. I just bought a palladium St Dupont line 2. The funny thing is I don't consider myself to collect lighters or to have a lighter collection but here we are. Its mostly just been because I use them and cant say no to a good deal for a cigar lighter. The ST dupont is amazing though. I have a matching black and silver dupont cutter/cigar stand as well as a line D pen. I somehow have a lighter, pen, watch and rare book collection without ever intending to. I only consciously collect cigars. I actually started buying some expensive pens because I always thought that was a stupid thing to buy so I became interested in why anyone would ever get any and I ended up going down too much of a rabbit hole. I think I am too open and tend to get interested in too many hobbies. The end result is that I have probably 150k of fun items in my home office. That's proabably a lot for a guy in his mid 30s however everything has seemed to skyrocket in value over the last few years even more than my actual investments. I collect the following : guns, lighters, knives, cigars, books, pens, watches, comic books, and guitars.

I am impressed how many lighter you have got! My dad left me several Dunpont lighters he bought 20+ years ago and I didn't look after them properly. The outer containers looked oxidised and I wonder if the content inside gets evaporate....Would u be able to advise how i can deal with them? is there any safety concern for keeping so many lighters at home?
@JKsStuff Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my collection. It sounds like you have a collection going yourself, how many do you have? The butane will leak out slowly over time, so I'd say probably no safety concern, and the outside can be polished. I wouldn't try and fill them unless you plan to use them, I'd also remove the flint stone. Let me know if you have any other questions. -JK

Thanks for checking out my collection Dante! I definitely keep my eye out for those double aluminum lighters. The storage cabinets are just regular architectural flat files that I lined with felt. Would you consider posting some pictures or a quick video of your collection? Question, do most of these work
@myotheraccount.10 ай бұрын
Great question, the ones that have a wick and use lighter fluid -almost all of those work, they just need a flint and to be filled. If they don't work, I keep them in the parts drawer until I can get them going or use them for parts to fix other lighters. The butane lighters in the bottom drawers -most of those don't work, the little rubber gaskets dry out and crack and they leak gas 😳

Are you familiar with zippo style Knock offs made by willow metal manufacturing company ltd? I have one that has a date of 1957 on it. Any info would be appreciated.
@JKsStuff3 жыл бұрын
Willow was a Japanese manufacturer that made lighters mainly in the flip top Zippo style, and the Ronson Standard style. There are dozens of manufacturers that made lighters in these two popular styles. It is rare that those companies dated them or used a code system like Zippo, so I'm wondering if it was engraved by the owner or possibly commissioned by a military branch or as an advertising piece. Lighters like that during that time period were common, and popular as gifts or promotional giveaways.
@06zulu3 жыл бұрын
@@JKsStuff - thanks for responding, I think you nailed it! I found this lighter in my dad's stuff after he passed. The date "1957" is printed on the lid to commemorate a Marine Corps event for the 9th Marine Reg. The willow info is stamped on the bottom of the lighter. Until today I figured the lighter was a zippo. I stumbled upon your KZbin and thought, what the heck. Thanks for your response. Ray

@@06zulu Yeah man, happy to help, what a great keepsake, my dad got me a few lighters before he passed, those are some of the most special to me. That's one of the things that got me into collecting, -so many of these lighters really meant something to someone, it was an item they carried with them everywhere and relied on several times a day, and they held a different significance than something like a watch you might casually check the time with, these were a part of the ritual of lighting up a smoke, something someone did with purpose and mindfulness
