Good luck with your thomsonii! Most people have an easy time growing it, but it has never particularly liked me for some reason.

I literally thought the plant was as big as a human until you pur your hand up to it

It is always good to see something of a known size next to a plant to gain perspective!

What's happening this year? Is it still going strong? Does it look like flowering again?
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas8 жыл бұрын
+21Cauzzie It is no longer going strong. The plant did very poorly over the summer and I took a few cuttings and sent it to the compost bin. H. thomsonii is a plant that just never liked me very much and I could not get a handle on what made it happy. Doug

+Doug Chamberlain Probably because it likes it a bit on the cool side. It really does, Doug. Give it a try with cooler temps and wait to see what happens.

+icke11234 I will follow your advice, and give it another try. Doug

It is funny; some people find H. thomsonii easy but I never have. I still struggle with it to this day.

I got a 6 leaf cutting in a 2 inch pot with moss, a couple months ago, and I have buds on it under grow lights cuz I shorten the on-time in accordance with the day length in my area. I hope I'll be able to bloom it and smell that fragrance :)
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas2 жыл бұрын
That is fantastic! Let me know if you pull it off and manage to flower it that way!

Doug. I love this Hoya and had a question about exactly what diminishing light means when bringing it inside in a well lit room. I have invested in a large led light panel that will be on one side of a studio room for some hoyas and the thomsonii on the other side in a window. So maybe 15 feet away. As there is not a confining grow tent around the light, so the room itself then will be well lit for 12 hours a day. Does this much exposure interrupt the cycle that hoyas that bloom with diminishing light require? Thanks as always for your time. Sara
@DougChamberlainVTHoyas3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sara, I would guess that it would interfere with the bloom cycle if the room is really well lit from an LED plant light. No plants are harder for my to flower then those that are day length dependent to bloom because of all the plant lights that I use. If you can move the plant out of that room, I would do it.

I bought mine june 2019 without peduncles and it has 15 peduncles with buds and flowers already within 5 months

Fantastic success story Barbara! I have problems with these plants that require shortening day length to flower as I use grow lights on most of my Hoyas.

I just got mine in from Florida and put it in a self watering pot and it dropped all its leaves :(
