Arguably Falk's finest bit. Acting camera shy in front of the camera. It's like he stops being Columbo and just does Peter Falk caught off guard (on an impromptu cooking show) ... WHILE being Columbo. Inception-esque. I love it.

Me too, Portia383----there was one time I met Peter Falk. I was at UCLA medical center for some tests. Done, had to look for my car. Peter was looking for his car too. The parking lot is vast, crazy. I made a joke saying “hey Columbo! You solve all these murders so where’s your car?” He smiled that Columbo smile and said “even cops need help, sometimes....”

In an episode full of good scenes, this one really stuck out to me. It feels very candid, very realistic. I'm sure some of it was improvised. Not sure what the point of this scene was in regard to the plot of the episode. It seems like it was just a distraction to pad out the episode. It could have been edited out and nobody would have noticed the difference as it was not relevant to the storyline. At least in the episode "Now You See Him" where the murdering magician calls Columbo up to the stage, Columbo used the opportunity to prove to himself the magician had the skill to pick the lock on the door of his victim.

I agree. There was no real point, and it came off foolish- more than typical Columbo. I think this was a bad attempt to do a semi-whodunnit for the season finale. There just wasn't the typical plot points, because they couldn't reveal who actually did it.
