Jim - It's good that you've gone to Viet Nam and are researching living overseas. Having spent a good part of my career working overseas (including Thailand), my wife and I have seen that there are lots of other nice countries to live, and at far lower costs than the US. As you point out, the political/social situation in the US is currently very bad. For many people, retiring in the countries you mentioned is a viable alternative. As long as you visit these countries and thoroughly research them, moving there can be a viable alternative to retirement in the US. This is particularly true for a single man who doesn't have much reason to remain in the US. Of course, you need to be very careful and always remain very conscious of the fact that there will be people who want to take advantage of you as a wealthy American. As long as you do that, a retirement in another country can work and be a good alternative for some people.
@nadyadobreva9904Ай бұрын
Sorry to interfere, but we /people from other parts of the world, personally, I am from Bulgaria/ know that there is no such thing as a wealthy American. Even we are richer - no debt at all, even git savings, we all are health insured, all got pensions. And all can freely travel within Europe. It's been a long time since the world had understood that Americans are buried with a load of debts - house mortgage, car payments, high house taxes, university loans, loans for surgeries.....we can go on without end. Americans can't afford to have their teeth fixed in the US. A lot of Americans come to Istanbul, Turkey for Holiwood smiles..... so, no danger for Jim.

Jim- Glad to see you enjoying the new experiences. I have read that it's the experiences, not the stuff, we remember most when our time has come. As a single guy, I do solo trips all the time, but have not yet gone abroad. I will cross that bridge soon enough. Houses are a huge time suck. Minimalism is great. So many people are caught in a repetitive loop that keeps rolling on until they die. Keep going and keep your head up. If I ever do get into another relationship with another woman, it's going to be great because I've learned so much of what to be wary of. I am also not afraid to cut bait if they start playing games. It's my way or the highway from now on.

Yes Jim, sounds great, what you said about the freedom you experience in Vietnam and you are so right, instead of things we should collect experiences and see the beautiful world!!! Do a lot of the people in Vietnam speak English? Sometimes when I think of emigrating somewhere I think that I would miss my friends and my native language. I think it takes a long time to be able to have deep conversations in another language and to meet and built friendships with people you can really rely on. English is the foreign language I can talk the best, because we learn it since 5th grade at school, Spanish and French I can talk and read just rudimentary. Aren`t you afraid of difficulties communicating on a deeper level with people and missing friends? But now you have the time to learn any language you want to, thats a great opportunity 🙂! Some people live during the winter time in a warm country and return for the summertime back to Germany, when they are retired. Maybe you should see some more places till you decide where to stay on the long run? Someone here recommended to see Bali, thats a place I would like to visit too in the future and Hawaii I want to see one day 🙂. One needs to be brave to emigrate somewhere very different from the culture/religion we are used to, unfortunately for women it is more difficult than for single men to go abroad because single women live abroad more dangerously than men, thats a real pity. Wish you a wonderful time and we are eager to know how you will celebrate the New Year in the city! Let us know!!🎇

Glad you're happy there. Hey, I know a super nice, single Vietnamese woman living in US not far from you in US. Could introduce you. Other channels like "Our Retire Early LIfestyle" are family who lived in all kinds of countries for a very long time and speak languages. Now, they are so happy to be back in US and fixing up a small house. Tired of being expats who are outsiders getting ripped off by foreigners. They have stories for days about living abroad. They are tired of years of renting and having zero responsibilities. They love new purpose of fixing up a house. Many foreign travelers have burned out on living abroad, and moved back to US. Opposite of your experience.

Hi Jim, I like what you are doing. Just want to say that as you said you would go back and sell things. My suggestion is you first come and stay anywhere in Asia for at least six months. If you still feel this is the place you ought to stay forever, you may sell your house or belongings in the USA. This is just my suggestion. Testing for 6 months is safer idea.

Don’t do it Jim. Don’t do it 😂 jk. Do whatever u want but for the right reasons not to date or be a follower some men aren’t willing to put in the work. Dolly, marriage doesn’t benefit men at all nowadays. You have to leave the west if you want an affordable, safe, traditional lifestyle. Here’s the thing though, I don’t think the institution of marriage serves humanity as a whole anymore. You shouldn’t be stuck with someone just because of obligations.

You wouldn't sell your house though would you Jim because it's going up in value every year and making you money as well as youd hopefully be receiving excess income from leftover rent after your mortgage payments every week?
