You'll enjoy it. Shibden Hall is atmospheric, and Halifax's historic sites are quite profound. Visit the parish church (now Halifax Minster) for its historical importance and try to see what Anne Lister would have seen rather than the somewhat "un-photogenic" town of today. Much of what she would have known still exists and was used as locations in Gentleman Jack, though you may have to search it out. Above all, understand that she was first and foremost an intelligent and forthright woman who was not afraid to be true to herself in a time when a woman's role was proscribed. A lesbian ? Yes. But more than that she was an amazing human being.

@@deniseshaw3871 You're very welcome. Oh, and by the way it's the *Piece* Hall, where local handloom weavers would go to sell the cloth they'd made, a roll of cloth being called a "piece".

Thanks for giving real life perspective, after having watched Gentleman Jack.
Lister was cool, but she could be cruel as she was to her young female relative as she controlled the poor young woman’s life. Very sad really as she was downing other woman while elevating herself.

If you travel to Halifax, Anne Lister's original diaries are on display at Bankfield Museum in Boothtown. The museum is about half a mile north east of Halifax town centre.

what went wrong with this video is that there was little walking, i was expecting a walk, walking and talking, also it should have started at or near shibden hall, and please do not have any any zero cars in the frame that just ruined the whole feeling, i liked the info but it was so focused on the election, i was expecting a nice walking tour from the actual land to the church to the coal area to the walker house actual paths and walks and even crosses thru fields etc, but not cars in background and the cars are on the wrong side of the road wink, but seriously, take us on another walk and show us the views from the hall the views from the church the plants and fields and such
